[04:18]<vcul>it doesn't happen on the other, "lower" links
[04:18]<vcul>weird
[04:19]<vcul>I'm thinking that the switch is dumbed down because it's turned in to a FR switch. but that's very unlikely
[04:20]<vcul>especially not on that ether link
[04:21]<vcul>also, if I break that link and try to ping the 10.3.0 network, I don't get a pulse. I was expecting RIP to build a secondary route to that network.
[04:21]<vcul>it just doesn't
[04:57]<dzzc1lyvn>hmm
[04:57]<dzzc1lyvn>everyone sleeping
[04:57]<vcul>not really
[04:57]<vcul>but since you're here :) what's the cisco http server's path?
[04:59]<rfv>http://www.cisco.com? ;-)
[04:59]<dzzc1lyvn>the ip address of the interface
[05:00]<vcul>I had it working yesterday with ip http path / but it doesn't work *today* for some reason. I guess I didn't bother to save the config
[05:00]<vcul>I'll check the cisco site
[05:00]<dzzc1lyvn>hmm
[05:03]<rfv>tkup: why are you using cisco's IOS HTTP Server?
[05:03]<vcul>ah shoot. what i forgot to save yesterday: ip http authentication local and i thought it had to with the path
[05:03]<vcul>alt, for the kicks :)
[05:04]<rfv>ah
[05:04]<rfv>hee hee
[05:04]<dzzc1lyvn>ohh
[05:04]<dzzc1lyvn>so you can use your username and password :P
[05:04]<dzzc1lyvn>heh
[05:06]<vcul>well it's a level 15 username. it has to be created if it doesn't exist username root level 15 password pass
[05:07]<vcul>i'm being distracted with this http crap
[05:08]<dzzc1lyvn>yea
[05:10]<vcul>so, anyone know why RIP doesn't select another route to a subnet when the main one goes down?
[05:14]<vcul>it's gotta be the FR and ppp that I have configured. ppp must be host routing and FR doesn't route at all
[05:17]<vcul>what does "Bridging a PPP connection
[05:17]<vcul>" mean ? :)
[05:27]<srd-i-rd>sup fbh
[05:27]<srd-i-rd>oh nice
[05:27]<srd-i-rd>quality living
[05:27]<srd-i-rd>you have intarnet?
[05:28]<srd-i-rd>nice
[05:28]<srd-i-rd>where you at?
[05:28]<srd-i-rd>oh, didnt know if your deal fell through and stuff
[05:28]<srd-i-rd>you ever get into the mac?
[05:28]<srd-i-rd>cool
[05:28]<srd-i-rd>not like theres a huge demand for apts there this time of year
[05:28]<srd-i-rd>would have been tough in august
[05:29]<srd-i-rd>heh, it has a wild config
[05:29]<srd-i-rd>some ports on various vlans, some trunked, some monitors
[05:30]<srd-i-rd>hmm, most of the low ports are on vlan 131
[05:30]<srd-i-rd>i think
[05:30]<srd-i-rd>its radius
[05:30]<srd-i-rd>someone's going to have to figure out how to make accounts in radius
[05:30]<srd-i-rd>and i dont think anyone has a bloody clue there
[05:31]<srd-i-rd>no one really gave a fuck what i did
[05:31]<srd-i-rd>nor did anyone ask me for info before i left
[05:31]<srd-i-rd>i offered...
[05:31]<srd-i-rd>oh yeah
[05:31]<srd-i-rd>there's a machine called radius
[05:31]<srd-i-rd>they know
[05:32]<srd-i-rd>yeah
[05:32]<vcul>i love radius :) it's a superstar when used with ldap
[05:32]<srd-i-rd>yeah
[05:32]<srd-i-rd>until you were hired
[05:32]<srd-i-rd>nope
[05:33]<srd-i-rd>btw, dont go changing psu to taccraps :)
[05:33]<srd-i-rd>nothing much
[05:33]<srd-i-rd>and if you break radius, you'll also break vpn for everyone
[05:33]<srd-i-rd>so be careful what you futs with heh
[05:33]<srd-i-rd>well, i always post job openings on irc
[05:33]<srd-i-rd>especially for network things
[05:33]<srd-i-rd>lots of good folks in here
[05:33]<srd-i-rd>and i'm glad they hired you over the others
[05:34]<srd-i-rd>uh... cant say much, but yeah
[05:35]<srd-i-rd>no shit
[05:35]<srd-i-rd>that and the salary considering the job market isnt poo anymore
[05:36]<gzrnnd->FBH: that's why documentation is key at any company
[05:36]<srd-i-rd>heh
[05:36]<srd-i-rd>well, i'm here for consulting until the end of june i think
[05:36]<gzrnnd->at just about every company i work at these days I install a Wiki of some sort for documentation
[05:36]<srd-i-rd>i think thats why they contracted me
[05:36]<gzrnnd->Wiki > *
[05:36]<gzrnnd->you are never too busy to write documentation, even if it's just a quick jot
[05:37]<gzrnnd->documentation doesn't have to be perfect
[05:37]<vcul>how well a network is duocumented goes in tandem with how secure the network admin feels
[05:37]<gzrnnd->and with a wiki you can always update it to be better and still look at the old versions
[05:37]<srd-i-rd>the intern last summer set up a wiki
[05:37]<srd-i-rd>but no one ever used it
[05:37]<srd-i-rd>it helps when people use things
[05:37]<srd-i-rd>i set up a documentation site or something that no one ever used
[05:37]<srd-i-rd>its still there
[05:37]<srd-i-rd>contains lots of my stuff
[05:37]<gzrnnd->tkup: you mean brains. If they are stupid enough not to document then it will only screw them in the long run if they try to get a reference from that company.
[05:38]<gzrnnd->sam: if nothing else, it's for you to use so you can forget stuff and not feel any pain for it ;)
[05:38]<gzrnnd->fbh: hey, then maybe one needs to find new employment ;)
[05:38]<gzrnnd->fbh: so how do they survive?
[05:38]<gzrnnd->consultants?
[05:38]<gzrnnd->fbh: don't be bitter - trust me, everyone gets their own in the end.
[05:39]<gzrnnd->fbh: well, if they have issues, you just will have a very high consulting fee
[05:39]<srd-i-rd>heh
[05:39]<gzrnnd->e.g., 100 bucks an hour
[05:39]<gzrnnd->works for me
[05:39]<gzrnnd->they will either not call you again or they will give you the money
[05:39]<srd-i-rd>FBH^: a good resource for cisco stuff and network layout at psu is eric springer
