[21:34]<gndyvx>there.. said and done
[21:34]<gndyvx>loather-work: you forgot to post the attachment
[21:34]<fjzvxnz-wjzc>:D
[21:35]<msxjv>loather - layoffs coming?
[21:35]<vcul>no probably consolidation/merge
[21:35]<fjzvxnz-wjzc>no, my company was bought by IBM in february
[21:35]<gndyvx>oh god
[21:35]<msxjv>Resistance is futile.
[21:35]<gndyvx>loather-work: have you concidered monster.com?
[21:37]<msxjv>aka would you like a job in Siberia doing Flash Development, since I see all this Flash development on your resume.. oh wait I'm just a fucking spammer bitch monster.com
[21:37]<msxjv>;(
[21:38]<msxjv>hate monster
[21:38]<msxjv>Spam increased like 100 fold when I put my stuff up there
[21:38]<dzzc1lyvn>that is from Trancender
[21:38]<fjzvxnz-wjzc>so they laid off 40 people and stuff right before the merger
[21:38]<jeeej>i had to change email addresses after using monster
[21:38]<vcul>desperation can lead to monster.com
[21:38]<fjzvxnz-wjzc>dumped all the IT functions on to me
[21:38]<msxjv>loather, yeah been there
[21:38]<fjzvxnz-wjzc>i'm managing it through the transition period
[21:38]<msxjv>I had to do a transition where they consolidated things back to Texas
[21:39]<msxjv>read as: had to hire idiots from Texas to do it all, aka teach them how to do the simplest of things
[21:39]<fjzvxnz-wjzc>after which, all my unix systems are stripped from me, my network is stripped from me, and all the corporate windows stuff is stripped from me
[21:39]<msxjv>yep
[21:39]<msxjv>documentation writing
[21:39]<fjzvxnz-wjzc>well, we're moving out of this building so i won't have a network anymore
[21:40]<fjzvxnz-wjzc>all the unix servers are moving to tulsa, OK where someone else manages hardware and OS layer
[21:40]<fjzvxnz-wjzc>and they're shutting off the windows machines 'cause they're just not useful anymore
[21:40]<msxjv>so you are sticking around post-transition, or bailing?
[21:40]<fjzvxnz-wjzc>i'm guaranteed a position post-transition
[21:40]<fjzvxnz-wjzc>but it's for websphere support
[21:41]<msxjv>Man, they are generous
[21:41]<fjzvxnz-wjzc>i'm not sure i want to do that
[21:41]<snppysx>***loather-work is now known as loather-retired
[21:41]<msxjv>haha
[21:41]<fjzvxnz-wjzc>selfish: seriously
[21:41]<dzzc1lyvn>the answer is A &B
[21:41]<fjzvxnz-wjzc>although, i have no plans of, nor money to, retire.
[21:41]<msxjv>that or loather-porcelain-uzi
[21:41]<fjzvxnz-wjzc>haha :D
[21:41]<snppysx>heh
[21:42]<msxjv>buy a trenchcoat and a pair of blueblockers
[21:42]<msxjv>ready to rumble
[21:42]<fjzvxnz-wjzc>i have the trenchcoat already
[21:43]<fjzvxnz-wjzc>i dunno, i don't think super-large corporations are really for me
[21:44]<fjzvxnz-wjzc>too much corporate politics and red tape to deal with / cut through
[21:44]<snppysx>grass/greener
[21:44]<snppysx>I have no room to grow or get paid more
[21:44]<fjzvxnz-wjzc>it's already been a nightmare in these last few years
[21:44]<fjzvxnz-wjzc>err. months
[21:45]<fjzvxnz-wjzc>selfish: i have room to grow and move around, but everywhere i go i'm locked into one position doing one menial, useless task
[21:45]<msxjv>yeah, not enough freedom for someone who doesn't specialize in one area of mundane knowledge
[21:45]<msxjv>most of the time
[21:45]<fjzvxnz-wjzc>exactly -- i'm a jack-of-all-trades (self-proclaimed, of course). i go crazy if i do the same thing over and over again
[21:46]<msxjv>titles like Captain of the DNS Team
[21:46]<msxjv>etc
[21:46]<snppysx>we're looking for an LDAP consultant :)
[21:46]<msxjv>heh, actually I know a good one
[21:46]<fjzvxnz-wjzc>how much does it pay, and what are you looking to do with your ldap?
[21:46]<snppysx>are you an iPlanet 5.1 ninja?
[21:47]<fjzvxnz-wjzc>no :( i do openldap. never used the netscape one
[21:47]<msxjv>somehow, I know an LDAP junky
[21:47]<snppysx>you actually have to use our proprietary time machine to travel back to when the server was worth it's weight
[21:48]<fjzvxnz-wjzc>really? maybe i can use it to travel back into time and buy a house in southern california before the boom
[21:48]<msxjv>Netscape Enterprise Server, one of my favorites too
[21:48]<fjzvxnz-wjzc>sell it off once i get back to the present
[21:48]<snppysx>i wish, it only works for ancient software
[21:49]<msxjv>ancient software, hell, that's brand new compared to what is lying around this place
[21:49]<msxjv>we have shit written in Clipper
[21:49]<fjzvxnz-wjzc>selfish: so i can use it to go back in time and, say, revive COBOL?
[21:50]<msxjv>stuff on asset inventory from like 1980
[21:52]<msxjv>women who worked here in 1980
[21:52]<msxjv>who still have the same hairstyle
[21:52]<msxjv>it's bad all raound
[21:52]<msxjv>*around
[21:52]<msxjv>We have some things lingering, some processes that 'nobody knows anything about' ( read as: our developers are dumber than a sack of hammers ).. written by 'Dead Ted'
[21:53]<msxjv>literally, the guy who wrote them died
[21:53]<msxjv>of old age
[21:53]<msxjv>so they call it stuff written by 'Dead Ted'
[21:53]<msxjv>pretty bad
[21:53]<fjzvxnz-wjzc>that's so morbid
[21:54]<msxjv>yeah, this place is a piece of work, telling you.. may none of you be cursed working for a company like this... damn twilight zone
[21:54]<vcul>i took a lesser paying job just to be able to work with things i like and have relatively more power
[21:54]<fjzvxnz-wjzc>just for future reference, what company might that be so I can never make the mistake of applying?
[21:55]<fjzvxnz-wjzc>tkup: i'd do that.
[21:55]<msxjv>depends on what it is
[21:55]<msxjv>but yeah, after a point, pay isn't everything
[21:56]<msxjv>I've found it's important to have somewhat of a care for what you're building / administering in the whole sense.. feel like your work is part of something tangible that you might give two shats about.
[21:56]<msxjv>probably why I'll never do e-commerce again
[21:57]<msxjv>you can configure routers and switches anywhere, but if you actually care about what your work facilitates, makes the job a lot better imo
[21:58]<fjzvxnz-wjzc>you're absolutely right
[22:00]<fjzvxnz-wjzc>and to be honest, i could give two shits about what this company does
[22:01]<vcul>alright that was a sick joke
[22:01]<fjzvxnz-wjzc>LOL
[22:02]<fjzvxnz-wjzc>funny, though
[22:02]<msxjv>Hey, I don't call him 'Dead Ted', everyone else does.. I didn't even know the guy
[22:03]<msxjv>loather, you're down in SoCal right?
[22:03]<msxjv>Plenty of jobs down there, be thankful for that
[22:03]<fjzvxnz-wjzc>yeah, there are plenty of jobs here
[22:04]<fjzvxnz-wjzc>i'm actually trying to get in with the company that's taking over the lease in this building
