[22:04]<msxjv>just show up when they move in
[22:04]<msxjv>act like you work there
[22:05]<msxjv>'sup guys, I can't seem to get into the routers.. hook me up'
[22:06]<gndyvx>social hacking :)
[22:06]<[mzvzyw]>social engineering is fun.
[22:06]<msxjv>Sort of like wedding crashers, but uh, for employment
[22:07]<gndyvx>it could be a cheap "lab"
[22:07]<fjzvxnz-wjzc>haha
[22:08]<fjzvxnz-wjzc>no, the IT guy i've been giving tours to the last few weeks seems impressed with my knowledge and told me to hand him a resume if i was unhappy here.
[22:08]<msxjv>hopefully you impressed upon him your great desire to administer Websphere, but for a healthy salary you'd consider otherwise
[22:08]<fjzvxnz-wjzc>haha, I did, actually :)
[22:10]<-- dvxn|syzzzyus xzs>http://www.bagdadsoftware.de")
[22:12]<msxjv>time for lunch
[22:15]<fjzvxnz-wjzc>what, watching, and assisting in the process of, making my job disappear?
[22:18]<vcul>resume polishing can appease the process :)
[22:19]<fjzvxnz-wjzc>one of the reasons i'm milking my time with this equipment
[22:19]<fjzvxnz-wjzc>i'm going to try and take CCNA and maybe a couple other tests if i can become proficient enough
[22:20]<fjzvxnz-wjzc>i'm at the point now where i'm dangerous. i know enough to get some things done, but i don't know *exactly* what each of the commands I enter does, just that I need them to make it work.
[22:21]<fjzvxnz-wjzc>yeah -- i found out the hard way that 'clear crypto isakmp' isn't a good thing to do on a pix with 10+ VPN tunnels configured with PSK.
[22:21]<gjsw>Question: Whats the lowest end catalyst capable of simple routing between vlans (throw a port into routing mode rather than switching). Can the old 2900s do it, or a 2950 series? Or is this exclusively reserved for the 3550 equipment?
[22:22]<vcul>nosx, aren't you asking for L3 on a switch?
[22:22]<fjzvxnz-wjzc>nosx: you can route on an SVI -- it doesn't have to be a physical port. AFAIK 3550 was the first fully L3 switch.
[22:22]<fjzvxnz-wjzc>maybe 3500 was L3, I don't know.
[22:23]<gjsw>I might not need the routing support, im just really trying to get port to port ACLs. I guess im thinking that you need a router between vlans to apply that
[22:23]<vcul>yup
[22:24]<gjsw>Im just looking for a seperate ACL per port. the 3500s are quite expencive though arent they.
[22:25]<vcul>awww. for my budget anyway
[22:25]<fjzvxnz-wjzc>you can find them used for $1200 or so if you look hard
[22:27]<vcul>loather-work, yeah get the ccna and put on your paperwork that you're studying for your ccnp
[22:29]<gjsw>What about an old 5500 series, those are fairly cheap on ebay these days. What sort of manager/route processor do i need to find with it?
[22:30]<drdrsaggg>just jumpedin
[22:30]<drdrsaggg>5500 for what purpose?
[22:30]<drdrsaggg>learning?
[22:30]<drdrsaggg>or cheap production?
[22:31]<gjsw>mostly testing ideas right now. I kinda have my own private play-rack.
[22:31]<drdrsaggg>well even for learning the 5500 are kind of 'out the door'. so depends on what kidn of learnig you are into. some people have a lto of trouble if the command lines 'change' a bit on them. conceptually good for learning and cheap, but bad for those with poor adaptation skills.
[22:32]<drdrsaggg>productiion wise, i think they are excellent bargains assuming you have the skillsets to maintain the unfortunately 'deprecated' or soon to be deprecated catos.
[22:32]<drdrsaggg>that said, catos is still used widely in older setups though.
[22:32]<gjsw>well, I bought some halfrack cabinets and loaded them up with older equipment rescued from the dumpster: http://gasmass.com/ratrack/Stage3/02%20Front%20Open.JPG
[22:32]<gjsw>Im not sure as to how to really run a modular catalyst though.
[22:32]<gjsw>Never had access to any higher end equipment.
[22:33]<vcul>nosx, where did you buy that rack? I need something like that
[22:33]<gjsw>there is a place in st louis (near me) called EPC.
[22:33]<drdrsaggg>well that's kind of the thing. catos is... omewhat going out the door. and i dont' think the 5500s even has the later catos to support the people who still use catos but with modern equipment.
[22:33]<gjsw>they have them for 50$ a pop
[22:33]<gjsw>little locking halfracks. that dir is full of pictures from mine.
[22:33]<fjzvxnz-wjzc>that looks like a roadcase
[22:33]<gjsw>let me get a link
[22:33]<drdrsaggg>but.. as i mentioned before. if you are a good concepturla learner, the 5500 has most if not all the features you need.
[22:33]<fjzvxnz-wjzc>we used to use those for pro audio gear when i worked in that scene
[22:33]<drdrsaggg>at least for a good fundamental background.
[22:34]<drdrsaggg>but if you aren't that type of learner, you'll end up "double learning"
[22:34]<drdrsaggg>when you move into new gear
[22:34]<vcul>hmmm I really need a rack from an online store or even pick up
[22:34]<gjsw>http://www.pconramp.com/itemdesc.asp?ic=UA%2DRACK%2FMINI&eq=&Tp=&newvar=2
[22:34]<drdrsaggg>you could pick up some racks from ebay sometimes.
[22:34]<gjsw>there is where i got mine. its an old recycled WAMnet case.
[22:35]<gjsw>http://www.epcusa.com/ <~~~excellent st louis area warehouse full of older computer gear servers etc.
[22:35]<gjsw>although their cisco equipment is always bought before it arrives. =(
[22:36]<gjsw>anyways back to the original question.
[22:36]<gjsw>a 5500 would require a seperate card to handle routing? correctr?
[22:36]<gjsw>no FBH, they are too shallow, only 22 inches deep.
[22:36]<gjsw>most servers are longer than that.
[22:36]<[mzvzyw]>Yeah, 5500's use RSM's for routing
[22:36]<gjsw>HALF DEPTH servers fit just fine
[22:36]<gjsw>i have a 4u that fits right in
[22:37]<gjsw>just have to measure it =P
[22:37]<gjsw>anyways
[22:37]<gjsw>does the RSM? route switch module? have its own seperate ports for routing
[22:37]<gjsw>or can you assign any port on a 24 fast ethernet card to route using it
[22:37]<fjzvxnz-wjzc>that looks like a neat rack
[22:37]<fjzvxnz-wjzc>i should get one of those and enclose all my networking gear in it
[22:37]<fjzvxnz-wjzc>hang the fucker off the studs in the wall
[22:37]<fjzvxnz-wjzc>that'd be sexy.
[22:38]<fjzvxnz-wjzc>(although, i think my wife would slaughter me)
[22:39]<gjsw>Whats the difference between the different versions of supervisor card in the 5500s? i see version 2 and 3 etc.
[22:40]<jeeej>3 is better
[22:40]<jeeej>faster proc, more mem, etc
[22:40]<vcul>I doubt my 4500 will fit in that one
[22:40]<szygnnz>anyone here every replace a AIM on a CCME?
[22:41]<gndyvx>srineer: aim-voice-30?
[22:41]<szygnnz>yeah
[22:41]<gndyvx>or aim-cue
[22:41]<szygnnz>aim-cue
[22:41]<gndyvx>yeah
[22:41]<jeeej>nosx: if you need a 5513 I have some
[22:41]<szygnnz>i replaced it
[22:42]<szygnnz>i can get into it on the CLI
[22:42]<szygnnz>but i can not get in on the Web client
[22:42]<szygnnz>something i need to start?
[22:42]<gjsw>ozzo, what modules are in them, or are they just chasis?
[22:43]<jeeej>just chassis with pwr supplies
[22:43]<gndyvx>so an aim-cue
[22:43]<gndyvx>you probably have to rerun the setup on the cue
[22:43]<szygnnz>sorry, yes a aim-cue
[22:43]<vcul>ozzzo, how many peanuts, sort of speaking?
[22:43]<gndyvx>service-module serviceengineX/Y session <enter>
[22:44]<jeeej>ummm... I wasn't really serious, those things weigh 200 pounds, but if you were in Austin I would sell you one for $300
[22:44]<gndyvx>that is if you got the serviceEnginerX/Y interface configured
