[03:08]<djuxxx>they re like 2 grand on ebay
[03:08]<fjzvxnz-wjzc>i own one. they're awesome.
[03:08]<djuxxx>they do intervlan routing right?
[03:08]<djuxxx>EMI
[03:08]<fjzvxnz-wjzc>you can find them around $1200 for the 24-SMI
[03:08]<fjzvxnz-wjzc>yeah, they do intervlan routing
[03:09]<djuxxx>i want to set up 3 vlans for my lab
[03:09]<djuxxx>with thta switch
[03:09]<fjzvxnz-wjzc>you can do that with the SMI image
[03:09]<fjzvxnz-wjzc>of course, no hardware changes between EMI and SMI
[03:10]<djuxxx>really?
[03:10]<fjzvxnz-wjzc>so all you have to do is download the EMI image
[03:10]<fjzvxnz-wjzc>yes
[03:10]<djuxxx>EMI image installed on 24-SMI?
[03:10]<fjzvxnz-wjzc>yup. you need a license, but for a lab it doesn't matter
[03:10]<fjzvxnz-wjzc>well, it matters, but since it's a lab you can justify it
[03:10]<djuxxx>how?
[03:10]<fjzvxnz-wjzc>if it ever goes into production you should put the SMI image back on it.
[03:11]<fjzvxnz-wjzc>(that is, if you don't have an upgrade license)
[03:11]<djuxxx>what do u think of cisco PIX 501?
[03:12]<fjzvxnz-wjzc>cute. haha
[03:12]<djuxxx>i m looking to buy one
[03:12]<fjzvxnz-wjzc>you can't really do anything serious with them
[03:12]<djuxxx>PIX 501 is good for DMZ
[03:13]<fjzvxnz-wjzc>i'd go for a 506 if you want to do multiple interfaces
[03:13]<djuxxx>506 is older than 501
[03:13]<djuxxx>506 = intervlan routing??
[03:14]<fjzvxnz-wjzc>i don't know if it can or not, but i imagine that depends on the installed OS
[03:14]<djuxxx>what does ur set up look like
[03:14]<fjzvxnz-wjzc>3550, 3548, 2611, 2611, 2620, 2621
[03:15]<fjzvxnz-wjzc>and a pix 515E
[03:15]<fjzvxnz-wjzc>oh, and aironet 1220.
[03:15]<djuxxx>damn how can u afford them lol
[03:16]<djuxxx>got a pic of your network diagram with that setup???
[03:17]<fjzvxnz-wjzc>heh, right place, right time.
[03:17]<fjzvxnz-wjzc>most of the 2600 equipment i scored for really cheap or free
[03:17]<djuxxx>pix 515e is a beast
[03:17]<djuxxx>supports up to 100 vlans
[03:17]<fjzvxnz-wjzc>the pix i scored for free, the 3550 i paid $400
[03:17]<djuxxx>support failover too
[03:17]<fjzvxnz-wjzc>nah, 515E is only 1U, it's small.
[03:17]<fjzvxnz-wjzc>but capable, yes
[03:17]<djuxxx>better than 501 and 506e combined lol
[03:18]<djuxxx>score them free? HOW?? i'm poor to have a lab like yours!
[03:19]<fjzvxnz-wjzc>right place, right time.
[03:19]<djuxxx>515e = 3 grand on ebay
[03:19]<djuxxx>:(
[03:19]<fjzvxnz-wjzc>we leased a bunch of gear for a while, and the people who gave us the lease were dumbasses
[03:19]<djuxxx>lol
[03:20]<fjzvxnz-wjzc>they didn't realize that bundled equipment (515E-FO-BUN) includes two units
[03:20]<fjzvxnz-wjzc>so they came and picked up one when it was off-lease
[03:20]<fjzvxnz-wjzc>i called them and told them they left a pix
[03:20]<djuxxx>u got lucky!
[03:20]<fjzvxnz-wjzc>they said, "well, it shows we picked up the equipment"
[03:20]<djuxxx>hah!
[03:20]<fjzvxnz-wjzc>serial number wasnt in our inventory
[03:20]<fjzvxnz-wjzc>so I brought it home.
[03:20]<djuxxx>sweet
[03:20]<djuxxx>do u ever use it at home?
[03:20]<fjzvxnz-wjzc>i don't really know now
[03:21]<fjzvxnz-wjzc>so i'm using it to learn.
[03:21]<fjzvxnz-wjzc>it's serious overkill for me at home
[03:21]<djuxxx>ohhhhh
[03:21]<fjzvxnz-wjzc>i could get away with a 501 with no problems
[03:21]<djuxxx>how old are u
[03:21]<fjzvxnz-wjzc>28
[03:21]<djuxxx>ohhh
[03:21]<djuxxx>so im better off buying 501 lol
[03:21]<djuxxx>cuz its affordable
[03:23]<fjzvxnz-wjzc>if you want to use it as a firewall, yes. if you want to learn about creating vpn tunnels, multiple static mappings, DMZs on alternate interfaces, encryption accellerators, etc. you'll need something better.
[03:24]<djuxxx>i do that stuff on freebsd
[03:24]<djuxxx>but wanna learn the cisco way
[03:30]<mrxmjum>hello dears
[03:30]<mrxmjum>today i have chapter 5 exam, which is mainly about CEF =D
[03:30]<mrxmjum>I'm confused about "clear ip arp" and "clear adjacency" commands
[03:30]<mrxmjum>cisco.com and netacad say the following:
[03:30]<mrxmjum>- You're using freenode, a service of Peer-Directed Projects
[03:30]<mrxmjum>- Center (http://freenode.net/pdpc.shtml).
[03:30]<mrxmjum>hmmm sorry
[03:31]<mrxmjum>cisco.com and netacad say "After a clear ip arp or a clear adjacency command, the router marks the adjacency as incomplete, and then it fails to clear the entry"
[03:31]<mrxmjum>why it fails to clear the entry?
[03:31]<mrxmjum>nemith, branto, branto-p1, others?
[03:31]<mrxmjum>postel, Catfive
[03:33]<guffajmn>hi there
[03:33]<guffajmn>any 1 alive ?
[03:33]<mrxmjum>yep, are you ccnp?
[03:33]<fjzvxnz-wjzc>i died earlier today
[03:33]<mrxmjum>i have a question like you :P
[03:33]<mrxmjum>loather-work, ccnp?
[03:33]<guffajmn>snmp-server enable traps tty
[03:33]<guffajmn>what does that command do ?
[03:33]<mrxmjum>nullcode, google, its easy to find info about it
[03:34]<mrxmjum>ÇÏÑí Çä ÇáÚÑÈ ãÇíÍÈæä ÇáÞÑÇíÉ
[03:34]<mrxmjum>but we have to do it :D
[03:34]<guffajmn>man
[03:34]<guffajmn>i do read
[03:34]<guffajmn>but it's urgent please
[03:34]<mrxmjum>i'll google for you?
[03:34]<mrxmjum>trust me google is smart for these simple questions
[03:34]<fjzvxnz-wjzc>nullcode: that means it sends SNMP traps to the console
