[03:30]<mrxmjum>hi
[03:34]<rryms>lol hey
[03:34]<rryms>I was asking earlier if a Cisco 2507 with the built in hub would be any good as a home router.
[03:39]<gndyvx>yeah
[03:39]<gndyvx>do you own research
[03:46]<rryms>ouch. i was just asking for advice.
[04:26]<mrxmjum>hmmm i don't understand Proxy ARP
[04:27]<mrxmjum>As I know, Proxy ARP is used when a host on a subnet sends an ARP request to a host on a different subnet
[04:27]<gndyvx>so the router answers the arp request
[04:27]<mrxmjum>and when the gateway recieves that ARP request, the gateway running Proxy ARP will replay to it with its own MAC
[04:27]<gndyvx>and routes the packet insteadd
[04:28]<mrxmjum>But as I know, or at least with WinXP, when the client is trying to access any resource outsite its subnet, it won't send and ARP request to it. instead, it will send an ARP request to its own gateway
[04:29]<gndyvx>right
[04:29]<mrxmjum>so why Proxy ARP?
[04:29]<gndyvx>so it's a misconfigured client
[04:29]<mrxmjum>a misconfigured client that thinks its on the same subnet as Host B while it's not?
[04:30]<gndyvx>yeah
[04:30]<mrxmjum>Hmmmmm, I think there are better reasons
[04:31]<gndyvx>so a client with 10.0.0.1/16 but the real subnet is 10.0.0.0/24
[04:31]<gndyvx>or...
[04:31]<gndyvx>a client without a default gateway
[04:31]<mrxmjum>aha
[04:31]<mrxmjum>cool!
[04:32]<mrxmjum>I'll try it but i'll be disconnected for a while
[04:32]<mrxmjum>if it works, then we can have some sort of VRRP but with 30 seconds delay (waiting for ARP entries to flush)
[04:33]<gndyvx>arp entries can last up to 14 hours i think
[04:34]<mrxmjum>not with windows!
[04:34]<mrxmjum>with switches it will take 5 minutes
[04:34]<gndyvx>ah
[04:35]<gndyvx>well thats the cam table
[04:35]<mrxmjum>with windows it's much less, could be 5 too
[04:35]<mrxmjum>do arp -a on windows, wait 5 minutes and do it again, you will see it gone
[04:35]<mrxmjum>14 hours is too long. where did you get it?
[04:37]<gndyvx>default arp timeout
[04:38]<mrxmjum>hmmmm
[04:38]<mrxmjum>even tried on windows 2000 with no default configuration
[04:39]<mrxmjum>it goesn't send any ARP query
[04:39]<mrxmjum>i think it looks in its routing table, sees no last resort routes and drops them
[04:42]<fmnwvnz>I'm sorry to interrupt, but I _must_ share this with you..
[04:42]<fmnwvnz>http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FcS6yYfXog8
[04:43]<fmnwvnz>and finally: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8lcTaKtvdcE
[04:44]<mrxmjum>lol, are they drunk?
[04:45]<fmnwvnz>as far as I know, you don't have to be drunk to ghost ride your whip
[04:45]<fmnwvnz>i need to get a camera so i can post my own video
[04:45]<gndyvx>as far i am am concered, you do
[04:45]<fmnwvnz>i ghost ride my whip in the morning
[04:45]<fmnwvnz>turn it on and let it roll out of the drive way while i close the gates
[04:46]<mrxmjum>do we have any black people here?
[04:46]<fmnwvnz>it has nothing to do with race, everyone is doing it
[04:46]<fmnwvnz>http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sUuwiGCMbog

[04:49]<2zrgvj-l2>hahahahhaaaa ldexter
[04:49]<fmnwvnz>hahahah
[04:50]<fmnwvnz>now that one is awesome
[04:50]<fmnwvnz>inevitable
[04:51]<2zrgvj-l2>that is > *
[04:51]<fmnwvnz>yeah, pretty much
[04:54]<mrxmjum>LOL
[04:54]<mrxmjum>amazing
[04:55]<gndyvx>dud
[04:55]<mrxmjum>poor teen, lost his car for no reason
[04:55]<gndyvx>he took out that hydrant
[05:10]<mrxmjum>so all HSRP virtual routers will have the 07.ac in thier mac address?
[05:11]<fmnwvnz>yeah
[05:11]<fmnwvnz>unless standby bia is used
[05:11]<fmnwvnz>in which case the burned in address is used instead of the default virtual MAC
[06:02]<srd-i-rd>moo.
[06:14]<gndyvx>moo moo
[06:16]<gndyvx>i'd use my evdo phone
[06:16]<gndyvx>verizon.. they probably don't have it in cananada
[06:16]<gndyvx>evdo .. i can get 900kbps on my cell phone
[06:17]<gndyvx>heh
[06:17]<gndyvx>whoa
[06:17]<gndyvx>i pay maybe 100 allthogether
[06:18]<gndyvx>hah
[06:24]<msxjv>Work always pays for the celly if I'm 24x7
[06:25]<msxjv>and Internet
[06:26]<msxjv>programmable command completion, btw, is where it's truly at
[06:26]<msxjv>command completion is old as dirt
[06:28]<gndyvx>zsh stylee?
[09:04]<sazdn>hello, i just bought a 3640 and the configuration isnt sticking on reload
[09:04]<sazdn>what is the proper conf reg supposed to be?
[09:05]<znmwzzms1q1>0x2102 should be it, check show start as well
[09:05]<znmwzzms1q1>stupid question, you did copy run start right?
[09:06]<sazdn>yeah of course
[09:06]<sazdn>but i think i may have found it
[09:06]<znmwzzms1q1>sorry had to ask...
[09:06]<sazdn>disable "ignore system config info"? y/n [n]: y
[09:06]<sazdn>yeah that was it.
[09:06]<znmwzzms1q1>ahhh, ok, sounds like you got it
[09:06]<sazdn>had to go into 'confreg' and I found that
[09:07]<sazdn>another question
[09:07]<znmwzzms1q1>shoot
[09:07]<sazdn>will compact flash cards work in the flash slot on these 3600's?
[09:07]<sazdn>obviously in a pcmcia holder
