[23:02]<msxjv>yeah
[23:02]<sazdn>heh i guess that makes sense
[23:03]<sazdn>speaking of that i need to buy a couple gbics
[23:03]<sazdn>anyone got a couple copper gbics they wanna sell me cheap
[23:03]<msxjv>Small Form-factor Pluggable
[23:03]<j2rgvr_>I guess I've been lucky since we don't have spare GBICs, but we have redundancy everywhere so if a GBIC does go bad we'll just lose some bandwidth.
[23:03]<msxjv>yeah
[23:03]<msxjv>I just like having that shit on-hand
[23:04]<msxjv>easier on the nads
[23:04]<sazdn>channel bonding?
[23:04]<sazdn>STP?
[23:04]<sazdn>or layer 3
[23:04]<msxjv>you can have layer-3 EC
[23:04]<j2rgvr_>all of the above in different parts of the network.
[23:05]<sazdn>excellent
[23:05]<sazdn>one of the ISPs that buys our equipment, everything is a single point of failure
[23:05]<sazdn>it kills me
[23:05]<msxjv>heh
[23:06]<sazdn>all they gotta do is take a single radio link or sdsl or somthing between a couple of the routers to complete an OSPF ring
[23:06]<sazdn>they are down all the time due to power outages in a building in the chain
[23:07]<msxjv>pretty sad
[23:07]<vzgfrgg_>Scrye, my favorite is a lan I've worked on where they have fiber between every building except three and they won't finish the fiber ring so STP can be implimented
[23:07]<sazdn>this company uses wireless for ptp links
[23:08]<sazdn>they cant spare the extra 2k to do a wireless link between two seperate power grids
[23:08]<sazdn>which would make every single router at least dual homed
[23:09]<vzgfrgg_>Scrye, painfully lame
[23:09]<agsyc>hello
[23:10]<msxjv>the best ones I've walked into is where they have some hellacious STP setup, not as in an actual setup, just redundant cables everywhere.. 802.1d.. or STP turned off on certain devices
[23:11]<agsyc>i have problem with my router pirelli
[23:11]<agsyc>(PC-WIN)<------------>[USB](router)[ETH]<------------>(PC-LINUX)
[23:11]<agsyc>i have 2 pc connected to the router
[23:12]<agsyc>i have configured the router, disabled DHCP, setted a static IP
[23:12]<agsyc>but now on windows the connection do not work
[23:13]<agsyc>this is the router configuration: http://rafb.net/paste/results/Wxqfgo32.html
[23:13]<agsyc>user@hostname:~$ ifconfig | grep "inet addr"
[23:13]<agsyc> inet addr:192.168.1.100 Bcast:192.168.1.255 Mask:255.255.255.0
[23:13]<agsyc> inet addr:127.0.0.1 Mask:255.0.0.0
[23:14]<vwcd>that's a cisco router?
[23:14]<agsyc>Hostname: wbn.ath.cx
[23:14]<agsyc>IP Address: 84.221.131.138
[23:14]<agsyc>i do not know
[23:14]<agsyc>is a router pirelli
[23:15]<agsyc>i taked this host from dyndns.org
[23:15]<agsyc>and i have update it now
[23:15]<agsyc>the problem is that on windows i cannot estabilise the connection
[23:15]<agsyc>on linux i have no problem
[23:17]<msxjv>Glad it's Friday.
[23:20]<vz2ufzzzsz>i just moved into my bosses cube... yay
[23:20]<msxjv>lapdances?
[23:20]<msxjv>bad times
[23:20]<msxjv>'Stop playing around with that router and give your superior some lap action'
[23:20]<vz2ufzzzsz>heh
[23:20]<vz2ufzzzsz>no, he got an actual office now
[23:21]<msxjv>well, hoo-rah for Mr. Big Nuts
[23:21]<msxjv>hopefully your boss is cool
[23:21]<fmnwvnz>does the new office have a window you can throw him out of?
[23:22]<msxjv>if he closes the door you can go knock on it and run away
[23:22]<msxjv>great pasttime
[23:22]<vz2ufzzzsz>yeah, hes way cool, and yes he has a window
[23:22]<vz2ufzzzsz>:(
[23:22]<vz2ufzzzsz>i miss my windows
[23:23]<msxjv>it's been so long since I've had an office with a window
[23:23]<msxjv>4 years now?
[23:24]<msxjv>I had almost a whole side of a window to myself, that pretty much rocked
[23:24]<jeeej>i had an office with a window
[23:24]<sazdn>ive got a window
[23:24]<jeeej>it sucked
[23:24]<sazdn>on the ground floor
[23:24]<fmnwvnz>i have a window
[23:24]<fmnwvnz>20 ft away
[23:25]<jeeej>the sun would shine all over my monitor, I ended up blacking that shit out
[23:25]<fmnwvnz>but I contorl the shades!! muahaha
[23:25]<jeeej>blinds didn't do the job; it would come thru the cracks
[23:25]<fmnwvnz>ozzzo: i never thought of that
[23:25]<msxjv>of course, my favorite was 'the dungeon'.. we had a couch in our area, frosted glass with key cards only high-level managers could get into
[23:25]<fmnwvnz>i put 2 extra shades in my room so light wouldn't come in.. and here I am wanting a window at the office
[23:26]<msxjv>key card to the lab directly off it, and a huge datacenter... you could go into work and only have to see your generally cool coworkers all day
[23:26]<fmnwvnz>lucky
[23:29]<vz2ufzzzsz>in the city the sun is never really blastin into your window
[23:29]<msxjv>yeah, that was pretty fun.. had so much good work to keep yourself busy with we made it so we could work undisturbed... but ever since then it's been big open shared cube environments
[23:29]<vz2ufzzzsz>and blinds help too, yeah.. :)
[23:29]<msxjv>( which fucking blows ass )
[23:30]<msxjv>Makes me cackle with glee to hear everyone's conversations when I'm trying to work on something
[23:30]<msxjv>gee this open environment sure rocks
[23:31]<msxjv>hence why I'd stagger my hours a bit.. come in a bit later so I'd have time in the evening for undisturbed work
[23:31]<msxjv>but I can't do that here
[23:32]<msxjv>anyway, done crying like a little bitch about it for now =P
[23:32]<gndyvx>npe 400 are so iddy biddy
[23:33]<msxjv>different memory situation I think on the 400
[23:33]<msxjv>if I recall
[23:34]<gndyvx>yeah
[23:39]<msxjv>Anyone using NSF/SSO?
[23:39]<msxjv>and does it work well or is it buggy
[23:40]<gndyvx>it works great
[23:44]<msxjv>coo
[23:44]<gndyvx>obanta_: I'm going to networkers :)
[23:45]<gndyvx>time to study for the ie test i guess
[23:45]<j2rgvr_>nemith: Congrats, I'm staying at the Sahara... all the rooms at the Hilton were full and everywhere else was really expensive.
[23:45]<dzzc1lyvn>hehe nemith you got approved?
