[00:08]<dvrx>Hi everyone, 2 questions, I have a 2600 router running 12.1(3r)t2 . I need to put an entire new config on this router, but it is 300 miles away from me (and my config will change its ip address) . I can not run a tftp server remotly (long story) however, the router has one built into it, I can download the config, but I can not write to the routers flash using the built in tftp server. Is...
[00:08]<dvrx>...there a way I can edit the config without it taking effect instantly?
[00:09]<gndyvx>um on that code, no
[00:10]<gndyvx>a remote tftp server would be able to do it
[00:10]<dvrx>nemith: I don't have one
[00:13]<dvrx>One last question, I have 2 interfaces on my router (serial and ethernet) When I am trying to talk to a remote tftp server it tries to talk over the serial interface. Is there a way to force it to use the ethernet interface (the serial has dirty ips and won't route)
[00:13]<dvrx>FBH^^: I just did
[00:13]<dvrx>FBH^^: Sorry, rfc1918
[00:15]<dvrx>The prior sysadmin set them up as links between p2p t1's
[00:15]<cznz_wjzc>in disable, is there a way to do a "show ip route | grep stuffiwanttogrep
[00:17]<cznz_wjzc>not in enable *shrug*
[00:17]<cznz_wjzc>you type disable to go back, i dunno what to call it
[00:17]<dvrx>The prior sysadmin set them up as links between p2p t1's
[00:17]<dvrx>fbh^^: sorry, I hit enter twice by mistake
[00:17]<cznz_wjzc>does IOS have somekind of grep?
[00:17]<cznz_wjzc>or ability to pipe standard out?
[00:18]<vcul>kreg_work, have you tried sh ip route | ?
[00:19]<cznz_wjzc>ya, but dunno what to put on the far side of the pipe
[00:19]<vcul>I wasn't clear. type 'sh ip route | ?'
[00:20]<cznz_wjzc>"oh"
[00:20]<cznz_wjzc>shnazy
[00:20]<cznz_wjzc>thanks. why i coudln't get google to tell me that i dunno
[00:21]<cuzyjscrv>I wish there was a way in IOS to make deleted subinterfaces go away without having to reboot the router :-/
[00:21]<vcul>the keyword here is regular expression /regex
[00:21]<cznz_wjzc>oh, i wasn't searching with the term regular expresion. not sure i even know the deffinition
[00:29]<gndyvx>CuriosCat: ignore them
[00:29]<gndyvx>it's nothing but your OCD that makes a difference :P
[00:30]<gndyvx>i know, cause i have it too
[01:07]<zzd-2zz>hello
[01:07]<gndyvx>greetings
[01:08]<vd2r>yo
[01:08]<vd2r>nemith: ever heard of/used ms internet security application server or some shit like that?
[01:08]<gndyvx>yes
[01:08]<gndyvx>heard of and used it very little
[01:09]<gndyvx>fear it
[01:09]<vd2r>is it worth a shit?
[01:09]<gndyvx>it's acutally not that bad
[01:09]<gndyvx>it's a proxy, firewall, vpn terminator, and radius server
[01:10]<gndyvx>i've seen a lot of people use it just for the radius server
[01:10]<gndyvx>or just for l2tp
[01:10]<vd2r>sounds pretty cool.
[01:10]<vd2r>hrm. w/ the radius I could do dot1x.
[01:11]<gndyvx>the reason why radius is popular on it is that it is already tied to ad
[01:11]<gndyvx>I prefer ACS :)
[01:11]<vd2r>yeah, that's why I was considering dot1x. everything tied together.
[01:12]<vd2r>yeah ACS seems cool as well. we use tac_plus instead though. cheap bastards.
[01:12]<gndyvx>how much is ISA ?
[01:13]<vd2r>dunno
[01:14]<vd2r>we don't have it (yet?)... I'm going to a class on it monday. next month is pix class
[01:14]<vd2r>http://bash.org/?424364
[01:14]<gndyvx>1499 per proc for standard. 5,999 for enterprise
[01:18]<vd2r>and ACS?
[01:18]<gndyvx>about 3k
[01:21]<vd2r>sort of a wash at that level.
[01:23]<zzd-2zz>If I am upgrading/downgrading a ciso 3750's IOS, stack wise with 2 switch members, do I have to load th new IOS onto both 3750's sepratly or will one do?
[01:24]<vd2r>hrm. I vote both.
[01:24]<gndyvx>I would do both, although i've heard reports of it working without
[01:26]<zzd-2zz>I would think both also but I am not sure. My boss and I tried on a stack of 3750's today and the send stack came up in rmon mode.
[01:27]<zzd-2zz>We got pulled off that project because of other problems so I thought I would get some opinions tonight.
[01:27]<zzd-2zz>It was starnge to see the 2nd stack member in rmon mode though
[01:29]<gndyvx>heh
[01:30]<zzd-2zz>What do you think nemith?
[01:31]<vd2r>what I need to figure out is how to seamless upgrade a 7500 when rpr is unavailable. pitb.
[01:31]<vd2r>seamlessly*
[01:37]<zzd-2zz>I cannot seem to find the 3750 password recovery/change documentaion. I do not remember if you have to change the regestery in rmon mode or if you have to rename the startup config and reload the switch only to copy the start back to run after the switch has booted.
[01:38]<crvpyvn>what about the link in the topic is not clear to you?
[01:39]<zzd-2zz>:/ I opened every link accept that one. Thanks Catfive.
[01:39]<vd2r>what I hate is that there are like 34 different password recovery mechanisms.
[01:46]<cznz_wjzc>in a "sh ip route", what does the left colum mean? i see S and C
[01:47]<crvpyvn>that is the type of route, and not coincidentally a complete key precedes the table output.
[01:47]<vd2r>Static, Connected. there is a legend at the top
[01:47]<gndyvx>heh
[01:51]<cznz_wjzc>tmbg, i'm not sure i understand the difference
[01:57]<gndyvx>show run | i ip route
[01:57]<gndyvx>show run | i ip address
[01:57]<gndyvx>see the difference
[02:30]<ymfgmygm>ok don't laugh but this is a general networking ? ... i have a web-server/proxy server box that connects to the internet ... it hosts 4 different domains (virtual hosts); 4 the local network (internal & server(s)) what should i set the domain name to? *.local.net or some non-routable thing?
[02:34]<gndyvx>it's up to you
[02:34]<gndyvx>it really doesn't matter
[02:35]<ymfgmygm>so BIND won't freak out if i have like www.tgfas.com as an inet routable addr then ws-linux-01.tgfas.com as 192.168.10.144 (or some such non-routable ip)?
[02:36]<gndyvx>bind will hand out addresses regarless
[02:36]<gndyvx>note that you may want to do split dns or something similar
[02:36]<ymfgmygm>good just wanted 2 make sure be4 i went ahead and started changing things
[02:37]<ymfgmygm>what do you mean ? have 2 dns servers or just set up different zones?
[02:37]<vd2r>google for split dns. tons of info on it.
[04:06]<dzzc1lyvn>hey loather
[04:36]<p-nut>Hi everyone.
[04:37]<p-nut>I have a cisco 7905g phone. It wants ringlist.dat in XML format as ringlist.xml
[04:37]<p-nut>does anyone have an example of how this is done?
[04:39]<ymfgmygm>if u designate 2 bits (4 subnets) in an ipv4 subnetwork i can use all 4 subnets
[04:39]<ymfgmygm>correct?
[04:41]<ymfgmygm>it's not like when u lose an ip due 2 one being the network address and 1 being the broadcast address
[04:43]<vd2r>idlemind, it's not recommended to use the all zeros subnets. it can be done though.
[04:43]<ymfgmygm>tmbg would u not recommend using the all 1 subnet either?
[04:43]<vd2r>it's not really so much because the numbers don't work out, it's more to avoid confusion. your subnet ID and network ID being the same can confuse.
[04:44]<vd2r>I'm thinking that doesn't work, but I'm a little bit retarded.
[04:45]<ymfgmygm>i c
[04:45]<ymfgmygm>so i should just use 3 bits 4 subneting 2 get the 4 host networks i need then?
[04:46]<cuzyjscrv>p-nut: where'd you get ringlist.dat from?
