[21:13]<sazdn>loather: our system does all of that
[21:13]<sazdn>(except asterisk)
[21:13]<fjzvxnz>wow, it does dhcp and dns too? Will it do dynamic DNS updates?
[21:13]<fjzvxnz>Can I get direct access to the BIND zonefiles?
[21:14]<sazdn>yes
[21:14]<sazdn>to all
[21:14]<fjzvxnz>wow. im really looking forward to that demo unit :)
[21:14]<sazdn>each router can SERVE dns too
[21:15]<fjzvxnz>excellent.
[21:15]<sazdn>take that cisco!
[21:15]<fjzvxnz>make it a SIP gateway, and it'll be a perfect all-in-one product.
[21:15]<sazdn>its not in our focus right now
[21:15]<sazdn>but it does have the HP to do it
[21:16]<fjzvxnz>yeah, i'm sure it'll be one of those 'way down the road' things.
[21:16]<sazdn>i wouldnt say way
[21:16]<fjzvxnz>you said it was like a 3 or 4 GHz xeon or something, right?
[21:16]<sazdn>2.5ghz
[21:16]<fjzvxnz>still plenty of horsepower
[21:16]<sazdn>we have a + model that takes a 3.5ghz
[21:17]<sazdn>but it doesnt increase throughput
[21:17]<sazdn>well it does for vpn
[21:17]<fjzvxnz>throughput is probably bus-limited, right?
[21:18]<sazdn>yes
[21:18]<sazdn>in our default config you cant saturate it too easily
[21:18]<gndyvx>ios can be a dns server
[21:18]<sazdn>24 10/100 cards and a single gig uplink
[21:19]<fjzvxnz>how many independent PCI bus?
[21:19]<sazdn>1 pci , 2 pci-x 133
[21:19]<sazdn>and the gig uplink is its seperate pci-x 100
[21:20]<sazdn>the raw component costs on our motherboards are near 800$
[21:20]<sazdn>no taiwan caps on our boards
[21:20]<fjzvxnz>all american siemens or something, eh? :)
[21:20]<sazdn>it is all american
[21:21]<fjzvxnz>what ethernet chipset does it utilize?
[21:21]<gndyvx>take that Scrye
[21:21]<gndyvx>(although it is a crappy dns server)
[21:21]<sazdn>everything we have is made off the intel embedded parts list
[21:21]<sazdn>so we can guaruntee supply for 7 years
[21:21]<fjzvxnz>oh, excellent. so they're probably e100 and e1000s. i82371eb or something.
[21:22]<sazdn>yep
[21:22]<sazdn>didnt i mention we are basically going down the same road that juniper did?
[21:22]<fjzvxnz>you said something like that.
[21:23]<fjzvxnz>very sexy.
[21:23]<sazdn>ive gotta split
[21:23]<sazdn>gotta go do my other job
[21:23]<sazdn>keeping an animation studio working
[21:23]<sazdn>(its a buddy of mine i do it for free and credits on his show)
[21:23]<fjzvxnz>cool :)
[21:23]<fjzvxnz>have fun.
[21:23]<fjzvxnz>i have to run to the post office anyhow.
[21:23]<jygc>loather: I hope you were talking about SI when talking about Siemens
[21:23]<fjzvxnz>latersz.
[21:23]<jygc>er, S
[21:23]<jygc>;-)
[21:24]<fjzvxnz>S? SI? eh? Siemens the electronic components manufacturer, not semen or seamen. :D
[21:24]<jygc>Siemens (read, Zi-mens) is a German Company
[21:25]<fjzvxnz>It is a german company, but a lot of their manufacturing is done here in the states.
[21:25]<gndyvx>junipers value was in thier PFE
[21:25]<gndyvx>not in features
[21:25]<fjzvxnz>there's a plant 'bout 50 miles from here
[21:26]<jygc>Well it's written "Made in taiwan" at the back of my siemens phone :-P
[21:28]<gndyvx> you think those cisco routers are made here in the US?
[21:28]<fjzvxnz>cisco used to do manufacturing in the US
[21:28]<fjzvxnz>i doubt they do anymore though
[21:28]<fjzvxnz>well, assembly anyways
[21:29]<fjzvxnz>some of the parts may be manufactured here
[21:29]<fjzvxnz>anyhow, i need to go postal before that place closes.
[21:29]<fjzvxnz>bbl.
[21:37]<cfrur>ok, sorry..back....I'm looking for a good commercial grade router(4port)....and I need it mostly for NAT and the firewall...but it needs to be solid like cisco....i just don't know cisco IOS well enough to go with cisco product...so something with GUI web admin is far better.
[21:37]<cfrur>any suggestions?
[21:41]<srd-i-rd>sonicwall?
[21:41]<cfrur>boo hiss on sonicwall...great router but i hate the yearly licenses
[21:41]<cfrur>shame on them :-)
[21:42]<gndyvx>indeed
[21:42]<gndyvx>cisco soho products come with web guis
[21:43]<cfrur>mmm...they do but not advanced enuff to make it go...i'll give them a couple years in that area
[21:43]<cfrur>anything else in mind?
[21:44]<gndyvx>you don't even know what you are talking about
[21:46]<gndyvx>anyway
[21:48]<gndyvx>http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/sw/secursw/ps5318/index.html
[21:50]<cfrur>oh i know plenty, but thanks for the link, got any other routers in mind?
[21:50]<gndyvx>http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/sw/secursw/ps5318/prod_presentation0900aecd800ab1a8.html
[21:53]<cfrur>nemith: hey you think that SDM would work with the cisco 806?
[21:53]<gndyvx>ASA5501, Juniper Netscreen
[21:54]<gndyvx>no 806 uses a different gui
[21:54]<gndyvx>806 is also an old router
[21:54]<cfrur>aiight
[21:54]<gndyvx>need an 830 or higher
[21:54]<cfrur>yea they look like a good router for what i need
[21:54]<cfrur>i might check into them...
[21:54]<gndyvx>http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/sw/secursw/ps5318/prod_presentation0900aecd802adc65.html <-- kinda cool
[21:54]<cfrur>have you played with SDM much?
[21:55]<gndyvx>a little
[21:56]<gndyvx>that last link is a live demo
[21:56]<gndyvx>other than that I am not sure
[21:56]<gndyvx>might checkout netscreen.. not sure about the gui-ness of it
