[01:21]<rjugmqu2n>hello all
[01:22]<rjugmqu2n>I purchased this product recently (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=001&item=110001189183&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWN%3AIT&rd=1), and when i boot up it goes through loading the bin image but the last few lines of the boot up process state "Insert config type module or do a 'clear config 5", there is one of these lines for all 4 of my modules (24port).
[01:23]<rjugmqu2n>I've read on cisco's site that to go in and clear the config but i cannot break the boot sequence to acess the console or RMON
[01:23]<rjugmqu2n>also it complains about the missing uplink ports daughter card, but do I really need that? Via VLan's I can setup any of the ports I have for uplinks right?
[01:40]<gndyvx>RoundQube: hmm
[01:41]<rjugmqu2n>nemith indeed, im kind of stuck
[01:41]<rjugmqu2n>i've dug up and read lots of docs on cisco's website so i come here as a last resort
[01:43]<gndyvx> what version of catos?
[01:44]<rjugmqu2n>i can't even get to that part to find out
[01:45]<gndyvx>really?
[01:45]<rjugmqu2n>one sec, looking again
[01:46]<rjugmqu2n>hmm nope, it loads the boot image cat5000-sup3.4-3-1a.bin, and shows bootstrap v3.1 but no IOS or CatOS vers
[01:49]<rjugmqu2n>nemith i can get you the entire output if you like? posted it to a website somewhere for your convenience
[01:49]<gndyvx>yeah
[01:50]<gndyvx>3.4(3)1a is a good guess
[01:50]<gndyvx>:)
[01:50]<rjugmqu2n>ok one sec
[01:52]<rjugmqu2n>brb
[01:58]<rjugmqu2n>gimme about 2 more mins nemith, sorry
[02:03]<rjugmqu2n>nemith http://users.usinternet.com/nkasu/
[02:08]<rjugmqu2n>nemith any ideas?
[02:08]<fjsvnf>enable and clear config all, the module configuration is inconsistent cause modules have been removed and/or replaced and you got the old configs that dont match.
[02:09]<rjugmqu2n>postel i cannot get into the switch RMON or regular OS?
[02:09]<rjugmqu2n>err no ? at the end of that
[02:09]<rjugmqu2n>it will not accept the break sequence from secureCRT or hyperterminal
[02:15]<fjsvnf>RoundQube: there are two versions of hyperterm, one is called "private" or something like that,_not_ both of them send breaks, get a unix box out and try minicom/tip/cu
[02:16]<rjugmqu2n>the version of hyperterminal that i'm using has been able to send breaks with my cisco 7206 router
[02:16]<rjugmqu2n>i had to do a password reset on it some time ago
[02:16]<rjugmqu2n>i'll try, i have linux dual-boot on here
[02:16]<rjugmqu2n>postel any idea why the switch is saying modules 3,4,5 are problematic? there is 24-port module in those slots
[02:17]<fjsvnf>Doesnt say they are problematic, it says the module configuration is inconsistent.
[02:17]<fjsvnf>Modules have been added/removed but the old configs stayed
[02:18]<rjugmqu2n>ahh ok we'll ill go test out with minicom and see
[02:18]<rjugmqu2n>thanks for your help
[02:18]<fjsvnf>get enable access and clear config all
[02:18]<fjsvnf>the error messages would go away
[02:18]<rjugmqu2n>one more question if you can stand it :)...
[02:18]<fjsvnf>(you would need to reconfigure)
[02:18]<rjugmqu2n>have you seen the link i posted earlier as to the product that i have?
[02:19]<fjsvnf>RoundQube: yes, you can also use pastebin.ca
[02:19]<rjugmqu2n>the supervisor module is came with has no uplink ports, do i really need them in this situation: Cisco 7206 with 1 FastEthernet port, i want to uplink that to one of the 96 switch ports I have (no uplink ports on the switch itself in the supervisor module), then run other pc's off that?
[02:20]<rjugmqu2n>postel the ebay link i pasted i mean
[02:20]<fjsvnf>RoundQube: no
[02:20]<rjugmqu2n>postel so i need that daughter card definitely?
[02:21]<fjsvnf>gimme a sec to see the link, i surf with text only browsers
[02:22]<rjugmqu2n>ok
[02:22]<rjugmqu2n>i was thinking about ordering this: http://www.d2global.com/templates/scripts/imageview.asp
[02:22]<rjugmqu2n>sorry
[02:22]<rjugmqu2n>http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=001&item=110007624015&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMEBI%3AIT&rd=1
[02:25]<rjugmqu2n>scroll up from that link after you click "view larger picture", there's even a larger picture about it
[02:28]<fjsvnf>oh, the NFFS, you need 4.5 for those, you got support contracts on the gear? they're EOL if not mistaken
[02:29]<rjugmqu2n>the company i work for has cisco login credentials to get all IOS/CatOS images
[02:30]<rjugmqu2n>postel can you tell me what exactly I'll need if my current setup is not able to accomodate what I plan on doing?
[02:30]<rjugmqu2n>I might just order that other supervisor module and replace the one I currentl have, since the other one has a daughter card with the 2 uplink ports
[03:02]<rjugmqu2n>postel thanks for the help, if you could give me some advise via emial when you have time, it would be appreciated: roundqubed@yahoo.com
[04:07]<dzzc1lyvn>hey all
[04:09]<fjrvxsjdn>hi
[04:09]<dzzc1lyvn>what's going on
[04:09]<fjrvxsjdn>not much, installing vmware
[04:11]<dzzc1lyvn>o.k cool
[04:11]<dzzc1lyvn>brb
[04:12]<vcul>hmmm what are networking admins, IS or IT? I'm confused
[04:12]<afsc>Isn't it all the same thing?
[04:13]<fjrvxsjdn>the lines are so blurred
[04:14]<vcul>well I've gotten the sense that when the press talks about IT they mean programmers, developers, project managers, etc but sys ads in general are never mentioned.
[04:14]<afsc>I thought IT was more like sys admins
[04:14]<vcul>that's what I thought too but nothing in any article I've read do they mention sys ads
[04:15]<fjrvxsjdn>IT is who you call and bitch at when your Windows is broken.
[04:16]<afsc>sounds like a sys admin
[04:16]<vcul>yeah true
[04:16]<afsc>windows sys admin
[04:16]<vcul>I've worked in IT but with an "IT" job title
[04:17]<fjrvxsjdn>i have an IT job title
[04:17]<fjrvxsjdn>i'm a unix systems admin
[04:17]<vcul>hmm confusing
[04:17]<fjrvxsjdn>or more accurately, senior systems engineer
[04:17]<fjrvxsjdn>under the IT/Distributed Computing department.
[04:17]<afsc>well
[04:17]<vcul>loathsome, same here but I' don't see the acronym "IT" in your job title
[04:17]<afsc>My job tittle is system operator/analyst
[04:18]<vcul>ah the departement
[04:18]<afsc>of course I'm not an operator.
[04:18]<afsc>I'm more of a network/sys admin
[04:18]<afsc>but the army really doesn't know how to name their job tittles
[04:18]<fjrvxsjdn>yeah, the army is retarded like that
[04:20]<zr2nfmr2fn>it depends on how big the company is
[04:21]<vcul>so we're in the same boat when it comes to "outsourcing" as when they talk about outsourcing programmers(?)
[04:21]<vd2r>it's not just the army. other branches are just as dumb.
[04:25]<fjrvxsjdn>yes, that's why "military intelligence" is such an oxymoron :)
[04:26]<fjrvxsjdn>tkup: of course we are. A lot of our function is getting outsourced to india and brazil
[04:36]<dzzc1lyvn>http://www.channelregister.co.uk/2006/07/14/cisco_grey_market_bust/
[04:37]<vcul>loathsome, tell me about it. whenever the words "consolidate" "streamline", "optimize", and "migrate" are put together in one email by management you know you wont last very long.
[04:39]<vd2r>I would think some of what we do would be rather hard to outsource.
[04:39]<vd2r>you have to physically be there, and have a pretty good idea what you're doing to do quite a bit of it.
[04:48]<dzzc1lyvn>hey nemith are you around..
