[00:09]<gndyvx>branto: heh
[00:09]<gndyvx>branto: i had irssi uop
[00:19]<gndyvx>branto: that was one of my better sessions too
[00:21]<2zrgvj>it gets a little better... listening to the mutlicast VPN changes now
[00:21]<gndyvx>yeah
[00:21]<gndyvx>"if you want to make anything 10x more difficult, just add multicast"
[00:22]<2zrgvj>hahahahaaa
[00:22]<2zrgvj>YUP!
[00:22]<2zrgvj>but it is needed...
[00:22]<gndyvx>oh yeah
[01:58]<gndyvx>network replcated packets
[01:58]<gndyvx>replicates
[02:04]<vwcd>mostly router replicated, but also adds to a host's receive mac filter.
[02:06]<vwcd>the host adds to its filter when it joins a multicast, which notifies the router that the segment needs to be sent those packets.
[02:07]<fzrwr>hrmmk
[02:08]<vwcd>the router receives a multicast packet on one interface, and sends it on any others that need it.
[02:11]<gndyvx>the same way hosts have been filtering unicast for years (or any frame not addressed to it)
[04:10]<rfygg_fzgrc>hi
[04:11]<sfudmfd>hello I have an asa 5510 that has 3 nics.. one hooked up to a frame relay and, one hooked up to my lan and one internet interface.
[04:12]<sfudmfd>I can ping outside my lan on the outside interface but I cant go outside my lan or frame relay
[04:12]<sfudmfd>I can go anywhere inside the frame/lan with out issues
[04:58]<wwzfcnz>what is the ios equivalent of ifconfig?
[04:58]<wwzfcnz>that is, to show the interface settings
[05:05]<wwzfcnz>found it (show interfaces)
[05:05]<wwzfcnz>It looks like I have the serial interface hooked up right and configured right, but I'm getting "Serial0 is down, line protocol is down
[05:12]<wwzfcnz>:) I would if I could.
[05:15]<fmnwvnz>wwalker: make sure its plugged in
[05:16]<wwzfcnz>ldexter: FBH^^it's plugged in, tried a crossover and a straight thru. no CD light....
[05:18]<wwzfcnz>http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/access/acs_mod/1700/1700swcg/lsdline.htm says that I need CD before the interface can come up
[05:18]<wwzfcnz>it shows it. just as down
[05:22]<wwzfcnz>http://rafb.net/paste/results/S8TN4H90.html is the output of show interfaces
[05:27]<mnpnnnnn>hi
[05:29]<dffnw>hi
[05:29]<msxjv>sup
[05:29]<mnpnnnnn>any 1720 experts?
[05:30]<dffnw>not really, but whats the problem?
[05:30]<dffnw>Ive had quite a few beers too, heh
[05:30]<mnpnnnnn>ok
[05:31]<msxjv>hmm
[05:32]<wwzfcnz>drfreeze and I are trying to get this T1 working. we're using a cable between the 2 routers
[05:32]<wwzfcnz>instead of sitting 20 miles apart.
[05:32]<msxjv>One place you run into the 'filter' interrupts regarding multicast is when you have multiple groups that unfortunately map to the same L2 multicast MAC
[05:32]<dffnw>oh
[05:32]<msxjv>but really that shouldn't be a huge problem
[05:32]<msxjv>( reading above in the buffer )
[05:33]<dffnw>dshot: do you know a good bit about multicast?
[05:33]<msxjv>I wouldn't call myself a multicast expert
[05:33]<msxjv>I haven't done any large deployments, etc
[05:34]<msxjv>Why, what's up?
[05:35]<dffnw>hmm, well we were running hsrp on our network and running sparse-dense mode on the vlans, but if we turned on multicast routing on the standby router, cpu spiked and a bunch of packets were circulating on the vlans multicast turned on on the standby router
[05:35]<dffnw>I trailed off at the end, heh, but if we turned on multicast on more than one hsrp interface, it would go out of control for the most part
[05:36]<dffnw>Im just wondering how you do multicast failover
[05:38]<dffnw>anyway, dont worry about it, its saturday...
[05:39]<dffnw>Unicast flooding can occur in certain topologies if HSRP and Cisco Group Management Protocol (CGMP) leave processing are both in use.
[05:39]<dffnw>there it is anyway
[05:42]<mnpnnnnn>how do I commit changes to nvram?
[05:43]<fmnwvnz>write config
[05:43]<wwzfcnz>thx
[05:44]<msxjv>Sorry, was trying to wrack my brain regarding your issue and couldn't come up with anything useful
[05:44]<fmnwvnz>or copy start run
[05:44]<mnpnnnnn>sthanks
[05:44]<msxjv>Interesting issue though, going to make a note about it and dig into it
[05:45]<mnpnnnnn>Sorry, don't see write or copy
[05:45]<mnpnnnnn>write core ! maybe?
[05:46]<wwzfcnz>got it
[05:46]<dffnw>yea, dont worry about it
[05:46]<dffnw>it was wierd, each vlan with it enabled added about 20% cpu and 1800pps on a sup720
[05:47]<fmnwvnz>hah
[05:47]<fmnwvnz>sorry
[05:47]<fmnwvnz>copy run start ;)
[05:47]<dffnw>I always wri mem
[05:48]<msxjv>http://www.cisco.com/en/US/tech/tk828/technologies_white_paper09186a00800a3e2b.shtml
[05:48]<msxjv>interesting
[05:48]<dffnw>wri mem, wri net, wri erase
[05:48]<fmnwvnz>that's why you shouldn't listen to what i have to say unless its 7-3
[05:48]<jygc>"wr"
[05:48]<fmnwvnz>same here, just used to write mem
[05:48]<mnpnnnnn>how about copy running-config startup-config ?
[05:48]<jygc>wr is even shorter
[05:48]<dffnw>wr m
[05:49]<jygc>Just wr, m is not needed.
[05:49]<dffnw>it doesnt really matter, ios is a mess
[05:49]<jygc>Good night
[05:51]<msxjv>yeah, that's a cool issue mplex
[05:51]<msxjv>definitely putting that in my notes on multicast
[05:51]<dffnw>I thought so, it was probably the cgmp issue
[05:51]<dffnw>and we are phasing that out
[05:52]<dffnw>because 3 vlans had it on on the standby, and only two were acting up
[05:52]<mnpnnnnn>how do I show interfaces?
[05:52]<dffnw>sh ip int brief
[05:52]<mnpnnnnn>from what mode?
[05:53]<msxjv>exec
[05:53]<mnpnnnnn>thanks
[05:53]<mnpnnnnn>should I be able to connect two 1720's over a straight thru rj45?
[05:54]<dffnw>no
[05:54]<mnpnnnnn>Currently, I keep getting serial 0 is down
[05:54]<msxjv>drfreeze, if you want a nice thorough output of things try 'sh tech'
[05:54]<mnpnnnnn>is there a way to test them?
