[22:19]<snnsxzzl>-ok, so asp.net has nothing to do with asp , right?
[22:19]<dyguw>-It's ASP with .NET support.
[22:19]<snnsxzzl>-ah and asp is a backend scripting language isnt it?
[22:20]<dyguw>-ASP isn't a language
[22:20]<dyguw>-and has never been
[22:20]<snnsxzzl>-oh
[22:21]<snnsxzzl>-actually i had always been under the impression that php is the open source equivalent of asp, ie a server side scripting language.
[22:22]<lxzjsvd>+it is
[22:22]<snnsxzzl>-so what i was trying to ask was , if i made a web app in c#, could i use PHP for the backend instead of asp ?
[22:22]<lxzjsvd>+no
[22:22]<mzvzzznz>-C# web apps are only implemented in asp
[22:22]<snnsxzzl>-oh damn!
[22:22]<dyguw>-SeeSharp: Eh? Wtf?
[22:23]<dyguw>-SeeSharp: C# with a PHP backend? Really? Are you from March or something?
[22:23]<mzvzzznz>-March?
[22:23]<zgzzcydjvgev>+erm...wtf
[22:23]<snnsxzzl>-lol
[22:23]<zgzzcydjvgev>+both C# and PHP are backends in terms of web development
[22:23]<zgzzcydjvgev>+unless you are making an ActiveX control and thats just silly
[22:24]<snnsxzzl>-ok.. let me make things a little clearer.
[22:24]<dyguw>-(Suitable spelling when thinking about SeeSharp's IQ level)
[22:24]<snnsxzzl>-thanks for the honour, minoan
[22:24]<snnsxzzl>-minux*
[22:26]<snnsxzzl>-ok, so, imagine a simple webapp, which just displays a text box, and a command button. whent the command button's clickevent is triggereed, it merely creates a new text file of name from the textbox.
[22:26]<snnsxzzl>-triggered*
[22:26]<lxzjsvd>+you can't use php with asp.net (on the same page, at least), though i have seen a php.net somewhere. you might want to check that out if you need to use a .net assembly from php
[22:27]<snnsxzzl>-hmm ok
[22:27]<snnsxzzl>-so, this webapp can be created using c#. But wouldnt it need a server side scripting language for creating the text file ?
[22:27]<zgzzcydjvgev>+...
[22:27]<zgzzcydjvgev>+*doh*
[22:28]<zgzzcydjvgev>+"web app" means something that outputs html
[22:28]<zgzzcydjvgev>+so its already server side
[22:28]<snnsxzzl>-ok, i cant find the right word.
[22:28]<lxzjsvd>+get an asp.net book
[22:28]<zgzzcydjvgev>+no
[22:28]<zgzzcydjvgev>+you cant find the right braincell
[22:29]<fyfuym-syfggag>-AnarkiDotNET stop being a prick
[22:29]<snnsxzzl>-yes
[22:29]<fyfuym-syfggag>-lol
[22:29]<zgzzcydjvgev>+let me just say you dont have that many to choose from
[22:29]<mzvzzznz>-PHPs "thing" in the first place is that its faster than asp.net because it does not use a frameworrk. So why would you want to go and change that...
[22:29]<fyfuym-syfggag>-rather tell him to read msdn
[22:29]<lxzjsvd>+php is a vile creation
[22:30]<zgzzcydjvgev>+php has evolved into that vile creation
[22:30]<zgzzcydjvgev>+if they cleaned the crap out it'd be great
[22:30]<snnsxzzl>-so, whats it called? the user interface of the webapp ?
[22:30]<zgzzcydjvgev>+things like short tags, register globals, etc need to be totally removed
[22:30]<mzvzzznz>-register globals have been made optional
[22:31]<zgzzcydjvgev>+SeeSharp - A BROWSER
[22:31]<zgzzcydjvgev>+....
[22:31]<snnsxzzl>-no no
[22:31]<lxzjsvd>+SeeSharp: #csharp is not here to teach you basic web development, please get a book and if you need help implementing something we will be here
[22:32]<snnsxzzl>-hm
[22:33]<prsvfd>+SeeSharp, amazon.com
[22:33]<mzvzzznz>-register globals where made optinional in 4.0...
[22:33]<mzvzzznz>-man someone needs to "update"
[22:34]<prsvfd>+seriously
[22:34]<mzvzzznz>-optional*
[22:34]<fyfuym-syfggag>-php pisses me off 90% of the time
[22:34]<zgzzcydjvgev>+davanger - no really?
[22:34]<zgzzcydjvgev>+i'm running php 5.1.4
[22:34]<zgzzcydjvgev>+and have all of that backwards-compatible shit turned off
[22:34]<prsvfd>+yeah i wouldn't say register globals is a good argument against php...
[22:34]<prsvfd>+php is pretty solid at the moment imho
[22:35]<snnsxzzl>-"AnarkiDotNET both C# and PHP are backends in terms of web development"
[22:35]<zgzzcydjvgev>+but it pisses me off that i have to go through and screw with something i downloaded because they have <? instead of <?php, or that it breaks because it was relying on register globals
[22:35]<snnsxzzl>-so, can c# itself perform file operations on the server side?
[22:35]<zgzzcydjvgev>+ASP.NET can
[22:35]<fyfuym-syfggag>-SeeSharp
[22:35]<zgzzcydjvgev>+because ASP.NET is written with VB or C#
[22:35]<zgzzcydjvgev>+but www.google.com it
[22:35]<prsvfd>+AnarkiDotNET, i wouldn't trust these scripts anyway
[22:36]<zgzzcydjvgev>+or http://msdn.microsoft.com/ it
[22:36]<snnsxzzl>-yes, Liquid-Silence
[22:36]<prsvfd>+AnarkiDotNET, i'm really talking about writing your own code
[22:36]<zgzzcydjvgev>+fastly - trust?
[22:36]<zgzzcydjvgev>+the source is right there...how can you not "trust" it?
[22:36]<snnsxzzl>-good point
[22:36]<zgzzcydjvgev>+even when poorly written php is still extremely easy to read
[22:36]<lxzjsvd>+php is too configurable- something you write on one machine has a good probability of not working on another. it also makes writing spaghetti code much too easy. imho, rails is the best web framework at the moment
[22:37]<prsvfd>+i wouldn't trust any script that was dependant upon register globals being turned on
[22:37]<snnsxzzl>-yep, from a security point of view, thats a good decision
[22:37]<prsvfd>+i would take a look at the code and probably throw it out laughing withing a couple of minutes anyway ;)
[22:37]<mzvzzznz>-what scripts are you ppl downlaing. I mean other than a forum or something like that. what else can a normal persona not write in pho?
[22:37]<mzvzzznz>-php*
[22:38]<mzvzzznz>-person*
[22:38]<zgzzcydjvgev>+well i almost always write things myself
[22:38]<mzvzzznz>-i think the bats in my keywoard are dying...
[22:38]<eg->-I need to uncheck all items in a checkedlistbox but it seems I need to enumerate through all checked items in a loop to uncheck them. Is there simply a property or default method I can call that will do this for me? Thanks (.net 2.0 fyi)
[22:38]<zgzzcydjvgev>+but the last time i had an issue with backwards compatible stuff was a skin for WordPress blog software
[22:39]<prsvfd>+log analysis, email list management, ad management and frameworks...
[22:39]<zgzzcydjvgev>+before that, it was a bittorrent tracker written with php that relied on short tags
[22:39]<prsvfd>+object relational abstraction layers (i.e. phing)
[22:39]<prsvfd>+database abstraction layers (i.e. creole)
[22:39]<mzvzzznz>-I have yet to install a script with out heavilly looking at it and modifiying it
[22:40]<prsvfd>+charting
[22:40]<zgzzcydjvgev>+i'm writing a simple highly dynamic document management system atm
[22:40]<prsvfd>+i don't like the reinvent the wheel where possible and focus on the core app.
[22:41]<-- dyzyvzf00 xzs fuy>http://www.digital00.com <-- NEW!")
[22:41]<mzvzzznz>-i like to have a nicely moded wheel with my name on it
