[13:31]<zyccus>isn't working for me today, but that's what you asked for ;)
[13:31]<zyccus>oh it is working
[13:31]<zyccus>just slow
[13:32]<lcs>dump ff
[13:32]<lcs>it thinks that i dont have java installed
[13:33]<zyccus>I'm using ff
[13:33]<lcs>but i am using linux
[13:33]<lcs>probably something went wrong after last update :P
[13:35]<zyccus>ah, Linux... the OS that likes to say 'you need to download the latest CVS snapshot and edit these config files and compile and install it and then it still doesn't work'
[13:35]<lcs>nope
[13:35]<kjr>oh... her we go again
[13:35]<kjr>another OS war
[13:36]<zyccus>sorry, didn't mean it
[13:36]<lcs>i just have to change few symbolic links :P
[13:36]<lcs>rikkus: n/p
[13:36]<lcs>i am using both of them
[13:37]<kjr>in all fairness, the Java plugin bit gets annoying across platforms
[13:37]<kjr>try it on FreeBSD sometime ;)
[13:37]<zyccus>it blows up on Windows too
[13:37]<kjr>pks: you running Java6 yet?
[13:37]<afd>Kog: !!!!
[13:37]<afd>java6?
[13:37]<afd>beta 3 out?
[13:38]<kjr>I don't recall which beta I'm running
[13:38]<afd>beta 2 pre-release failed swing apps :-/
[13:38]<kjr>uh, the beta I'm running does Swing just fine
[13:38]<lcs>Kog: nope
[13:38]<afd>hmmm but it kills all text in x-develop's menu
[13:39]<lcs>Kog: i think that i am running 1.5, or 1.4.xxx
[13:39]<kjr>pks: if you're not even running Java5, you should start
[13:39]<lcs>1.42
[13:39]<lcs>1.4.2
[13:39]<lcs>actualy i am not java guy
[13:39]<lcs>i dont like it too much
[13:42]<lcs>hm, strange i dont see java 5 in my package list
[13:42]<kjr>what distro?
[13:42]<lcs>ubuntu/kubuntu
[13:42]<kjr>hell, even FreeBSD has Java5 heh
[13:42]<kjr>pks: perhaps it's not in the ever-stale repositories... I don't run ubuntu
[13:43]<lcs>i bet there is java5, but i cannot find it :P
[13:43]<kjr>apt-get install sun-java5-sdk ?
[13:43]<lcs>nope
[13:43]<kjr>apt-get install sun-java5-jre ?
[13:44]<lcs>nope, no java5 at all
[13:44]<lcs>i think that i need add some repositories, w8
[13:44]<kjr>what repo are you running? stale?
[13:44]<dyguw>What? Debian stuff in ##csharp?`
[13:44]<kjr>minux: I know, I don't run debian either... but more interestingly - it's Java Debian stuff
[13:44]<kjr>(in a c# chan)
[13:44]<dyguw>heh, lol
[13:45]<kjr>wow... a heh and a "lol" in the same sentence
[13:45]<kjr>calol perhaps?
[13:45]<kjr>or c&lol?
[13:45]<lcs>damn, only java1.4
[13:45]<dyguw>hehlol
[13:45]<kjr>pks: you should stop using stale ass mirrors
[13:45]<lcs>stale?
[13:45]<kjr>pks: try using uh, experimental or whatever debian calls it
[13:45]<dyguw>unstable
[13:45]<kjr>or just grab the fucking binary ;)
[13:46]<lcs>Kog: thats too easy ;)
[13:46]<kjr>binary -> /opt/java5 and symlink
[13:46]<lcs>i am thinking about swithich to ubuntu 6.0.6
[13:46]<lcs>6.06* coz of the xgl server :)
[13:46]<kjr>XGL is already in Ubuntu? that was quicker than I thought it'd be
[13:46]<kjr>and here I was thinking SuSE was the only distro using it soon
[13:46]<lcs>hehe ;)
[13:47]<afd>Kog: ubuntu even has compiz plugins
[13:48]<kjr>it compiz what Kororaa is running?
[13:48]<kjr>yeah... looks like it
[13:49]<kjr>I wonder when people will realize a cube model starts to fail with n virtual desktops... time for a buckyball
[13:50]<zyccus>sun-j2sdk1.5 - Java(TM) 2 SDK, Standard Edition, Sun Microsystems(TM)
[13:50]<zyccus>what version of Java is that?
[13:50]<lcs>rikkus: 5
[13:50]<kjr>rikkus: you're joking, right?
[13:51]<zyccus>Kog: no... I have no dealings with Java, except when an applet annoys me
[13:51]<kjr>ah
[13:51]<kjr>rikkus: post 1.4 they renamed them Java5 and Java6 for Java 1.5 and 1.6 respectively
[13:51]<zyccus>well, I can install that on my Debian if I want...
[13:51]<kjr>rikkus: J2EE also got renamed Java Enterprise
[13:51]<zyccus>but I have some 'non-free' package source set up
[13:51]<lcs>Kog: they will invent more sophisticated solids :P
[13:51]<kjr>rikkus: if shit works... don't upgrade to 1.5
[13:52]<zyccus>Kog: they keep messing with the names and the version numbers... I haven't needed to keep up
[13:52]<kjr>rikkus: a lot of people can't seem to figure out how to compile for 1.5, which is why portage has it hard masked
[13:52]<zyccus>well, I don't use Java on that box for anything, it's not installed
[13:52]<kjr>well, my recommendation is using java5+
[13:52]<kjr>I'd grab the binary from sun though
[13:53]<kjr>rather - my recommendation on a new install is Java5+, unless the software says otherwise
[13:53]<zyccus>if I do 'emerge search jdk' on my gentoo box, it only shows 1.4.x, yep
[13:53]<lcs>same with me
[13:53]<kjr>rikkus: you know... I DO sometimes know what I'm talkinga bout ;)
[13:53]<kjr>sometimes it's safe to listen to me
[13:53]<kjr>but don't get too comfortable
[13:54]<zyccus>I wasn't doubting you
[13:54]<kjr>hater
[13:54]<kjr>also, applets are deprecated as well
[13:54]<kjr>in favor of JWS
[13:55]<kjr>I'd assume that doesn't really mean much to whomever published your software though heh
[13:56]<kjr>AqD: it looks like the gentoo wiki has something for XGL/Compiz... it looks rather hackish, and there doesn't seem to be XGL in portage (according to gentoo-portage.com anyway, i'm in windows right now)
