[16:43]<dyguw>Arafangi1n: Your problem is that you can't afford it.
[16:43]<rzrprrrywr>minux: No, that's not my problem.
[16:44]<xgzjygg>minux: that's not the point
[16:44]<rzrprrrywr>minux: My problem is that of compatibility and maintainability.
[16:44]<dyguw>Arafangi1n: Switch first and you don't have to bother.
[16:44]<rzrprrrywr>minux: I use Debian Sarge as my main OS.
[16:44]<dyguw>Arafangi1n: I see, too bad for you.
[16:45]<rzrprrrywr>minux: I'm finding it great - the thing never crashes.
[16:46]<rzrprrrywr>minux: And it lets me do nearly anything I want - but I'm not going to spew Linux propaganda here.
[16:46]<ruyprrruyr>what does it mean when an example puts static void before a method? for example static void MyMethod()
[16:46]<ruyprrruyr>what does it do?
[16:46]<dyguw>Arafangi1n: I know, I've been using Linux since 1998.
[16:46]<dyguw>GUIPenguin: It's not an instance method.
[16:46]<xgzjygg>GUIPenguin: it means the method is static and can be called without allocating an instance
[16:46]<dnscr>my XP never crashed on my laptop
[16:46]<dyguw>meska: Same here.
[16:46]<dnscr>linux is good for servers;]
[16:46]<dyguw>Indeed :)
[16:47]<rzrprrrywr>Linux is excellent for servers.
[16:47]<dyguw>Though I write my server applications in C#.
[16:47]<xgzjygg>linux is also good for workstations
[16:47]<dyguw>With MSSQL as database backend.
[16:47]<rzrprrrywr>Personally, I feel that Linux could be better than it is on a desktop, but it's (imho) better than windows.
[16:47]<dnscr>:)
[16:47]<dnscr>for me no
[16:47]<txnjzd>It could be a lot better on the desktop :-)
[16:47]<xgzjygg>as i don't like the windows interface
[16:47]<cjfmfusyjg>hm my xp occationally gives a bluescreen, last time was today, was about 6 month before that thou ^^ cinda lame that an operating system can crash
[16:47]<sdnffdxdlld>I like the windows inerface once its been tweaked and themed
[16:48]<rzrprrrywr>heroine: I find it just so frustrating and distracting (Especially MSN)
[16:48]<rzrprrrywr>heroine: But that's becomming subjective ;)
[16:48]<xgzjygg>Arafangi1n: i find that it missed some basic stuff like "focus follow mouse", workspaces and a true shell
[16:48]<cjfmfusyjg>there is a blackbox thingie, check that one out if you want to redo the win lookingpart
[16:49]<xgzjygg>with that, i wouldn't mind using windows :)
[16:49]<sdnffdxdlld>heroine, you can have 'focus follow mouse'
[16:49]<rzrprrrywr>heroine: My other issue with windows is the cost of entry.
[16:49]<xgzjygg>smellyhippy: by default, without installing third parties software ?
[16:49]<rzrprrrywr>heroine: You windows users have already entered, but I'm a linux dude.
[16:49]<sdnffdxdlld>not by default, you have to change a setting
[16:50]<sdnffdxdlld>personally i dont like the focus to follow the mouse so i'm glad its not on by default
[16:50]<xgzjygg>smellyhippy: hmm .. some registry hidden key ? :)
[16:50]<xgzjygg>smellyhippy: thanx anyway, i'll look for it one day
[16:50]<sdnffdxdlld>I cant rememeber if theres an option somewhere but yeah it can definatly be done via a reg edit
[16:50]<xgzjygg>Arafangi1n: i'm not a window user ;)
[16:50]<sdnffdxdlld>Arafangi1n, do you code for a living?
[16:50]<rzrprrrywr>smellyhippy: Is it documented?
[16:51]<rzrprrrywr>smellyhippy: No, but I will.
[16:51]<sdnffdxdlld>I dont know, I've never looked into it, I just know its there ;)
[16:51]<rzrprrrywr>smellyhippy: I currently do alot of code, but not for money. (Part is a hobby, and the other part is uni)
[16:51]<sdnffdxdlld>aye well if you like getting paid I bet the software you work on wont be free ;)
[16:52]<ycnr_>Arafangi1n: smellyhippy isn't a communist.
[16:52]<ycnr_>Arafangi1n: Keep on writing open source.
[16:52]<ycnr_>smellyhippy: Hey dude, what's up? =)
[16:52]<sdnffdxdlld>lol the code i do in my spare time is free for all
[16:52]<rzrprrrywr>I don't have a problem with opensource or closed software.
[16:52]<sdnffdxdlld>but Arafangi1n, is complaining that windows is over priced hehe ....
[16:52]<cjfmfusyjg>oensource != free
[16:53]<cjfmfusyjg>open source
[16:53]<sdnffdxdlld>the stuff i work on here is sold to businesses at about £3000 and is no where near as complex as windows
[16:53]<dnscr>heh
[16:53]<dnscr>;]
[16:53]<rzrprrrywr>smellyhippy: Yes, but that's specialized software, right?
[16:53]<sdnffdxdlld>about as specialized as a pos can be :P
[16:53]<cjfmfusyjg>what software is not specialized?
[16:53]<sdnffdxdlld>its not bespoke
[16:54]<rzrprrrywr>smellyhippy: Not software that is sold to dang nearly any computer user?
[16:54]<sdnffdxdlld>its a packaged product with personalized support
[16:54]<rzrprrrywr>smellyhippy: There, that's _support_, support can be expensive, and if it's good, worth every cent.
[16:54]<sdnffdxdlld>Arafangi1n, if it was then it'd be alot less costly ... just like windows doesnt cost very much :P
[16:54]<rzrprrrywr>smellyhippy: Windows costs about $400
[16:54]<rzrprrrywr>smellyhippy: And Office is double that again.
[16:54]<sdnffdxdlld>and?
[16:55]<ycnr_>Windows has about this much docs: ' '
[16:55]<cjfmfusyjg>Arafangi1n, windows is usually free for students, and you're a student?
[16:55]<sdnffdxdlld>its a huge code base! with millions of man hours in it!
[16:55]<rzrprrrywr>smellyhippy: The price of a laptop starts at $900
[16:55]<ggyjzgx>'back
[16:55]<rzrprrrywr>ColdFusion: No.
[16:55]<rzrprrrywr>ColdFusion: Well, it's not free for students.
[16:55]<sdnffdxdlld>yeah? laptop hardware can be designed by computyers :P software cant ;)
[16:56]<cjfmfusyjg>Arafangi1n, several units in Sweden gets it for free to the students from microsoft, guess they want you to get to know their product while studeing
[16:56]<rzrprrrywr>ColdFusion: You can get office at a reasonable value, $130, which is the price it _should_ be, but unfortunately that has a whole bunch of license restrictions, etc.
[16:56]<cjfmfusyjg>several unis I meant
[16:57]<cjfmfusyjg>Arafangi1n, no need for office when there are free one's around, and since I thought you were a student, you could get that for free, but you were not ^^
[16:57]<rzrprrrywr>ColdFusion: Sweden Uni's probably wrote a letter to MS asking for it. MS software is cheap for larger companies and uni's, it's just dang expensive for individuals.
[16:57]<rzrprrrywr>ColdFusion: I am a student.
[16:57]<rzrprrrywr>ColdFusion: I don't attend a Swedish uni :)
[16:57]<cjfmfusyjg>hm try mail them, you might get it for free ^^
[16:57]<rzrprrrywr>ColdFusion: My uni is selling Office (And not Office pro either), for $130
[16:58]<cjfmfusyjg>Btw, cinda easy to be a Swedish student, you can studdy on distance, they have those courses
[16:58]<rzrprrrywr>ColdFusion: But I can't put it on my laptop and do part time work with it.
[16:58]<rzrprrrywr>ColdFusion:
[16:58]<dnscr>ColdFusion can you study distance if you are not swedish ?
[16:58]<rzrprrrywr>And I definetly can't put it on linux.
[16:59]<rzrprrrywr>(Though Crossover can apparently run Office 2003 now)
[16:59]<cjfmfusyjg>A friend did, he's from germany, studdied here for half a year first, then a nother half year from his home
[16:59]<dnscr>ColdFusion maybe you could give me some links?
[16:59]<cjfmfusyjg>hm
[16:59]<dnscr>or university names where i could do that?
[16:59]<rzrprrrywr>ColdFusion: But there's still the upgrade treadmil.
