[13:38]<zyccus>I've written quite a few apps which lots of people have used... but if I want to make money, I need to do closed source Windows apps. The difficulty is finding a niche.

[13:40]<zyccus>every time I think "I know, I'll make xyz" - I find out either it's been done, or as I'm in the planning stage, someone else does it.

There are these courses with aptech like Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist (MCTS) and Microsoft Certified Professional Developer (MCPD). Are these 8 month courses worth going for? or is it possible to learn by ourselves and then give the exams only?

[13:51]<zyccus>CodeRun: if you work for a big company, get them to pay for the qualifications while you're there.. otherwise I wouldn't bother. Check job adverts - you'll see that only about 1 in 20 asks for such qualifications
[13:51]<rwyfcygs>I think the problem is they fall in love with fancy GUI and forget that there is a reason that terminal based programs are still the norm in e.g. airline systems.
