[00:15]<maxgg>you are ducky
[00:15]<maxgg>mozilla suffers from dearth of docs though, maybe that has changed of late
[00:16]<rrygn606>If I can figure out a way to a) load a Gecko control with the flash GUI inside of it and b) figure out a way to make the flash GUI talk to something outside of the gecko control, I'm ok?
[00:16]<maxgg>the gecko control doesn't have the mozilla frame caine607
[00:16]<maxgg>it's just a projector that plays a webpage, or a full page flash movie
[00:16]<maxgg>it won't look like a webpage
[00:16]<maxgg>or a browser
[00:17]<maxgg>in fact i think one of the open source projector-generator projects is basing their effort on where Gecko has left off
[00:17]<maxgg>screenweaver
[00:17]<maxgg>http://www.darronschall.com/weblog/archives/000108.cfm
[00:18]<rrygn606>Sorry bout that.
[00:18]<maxgg>http://www.darronschall.com/weblog/archives/000108.cfm
[00:18]<maxgg>did you miss this link?
[00:18]<rrygn606>I disconnected just after you said "<dchen> it won't look like a webpage"
[00:18]<maxgg>anyway, if you are an independent game developer, screamweaver is one of those OSS projects you should definitely try to support
[00:19]<maxgg>they are trying to do the dirty work for you
[00:19]<maxgg>essentially
[00:19]<rrygn606>Cool.
[00:19]<rrygn606>I'll check it out.
[00:19]<rrygn606><caine607> Sorry bout that.
[00:19]<rrygn606><dchen> http://www.darronschall.com/weblog/archives/000108.cfm
[00:19]<rrygn606><dchen> did you miss this link?
[00:19]<rrygn606><caine607> I disconnected just after you said "<dchen> it won't look like a
[00:19]<rrygn606> webpage"
[00:19]<rrygn606><dchen> anyway, if you are an independent game developer, screamweaver is one
[00:19]<rrygn606> of those OSS projects you should definitely try to support
[00:19]<rrygn606><dchen> they are trying to do the dirty work for you
[00:19]<rrygn606><dchen> essentially
[00:19]<rrygn606><caine607> Cool.
[00:19]<kjr>...
[00:19]<kjr>stop
[00:19]<rrygn606><caine607> I'll check it out.
[00:19]<rrygn606>Oops.
[00:19]<rrygn606>Sorry.,
[00:19]<maxgg>hehe
[00:19]<rrygn606>Clicked on the wrong window.
[00:19]<maxgg>i used to use xterm
[00:19]<rrygn606>Heh.
[00:19]<maxgg>right click could accidentally past a few megabytes of text
[00:19]<rrygn606>I'm using emacs under screen via putty.
[00:19]<maxgg>great usability case study
[00:20]<rrygn606>So the cursor didn't go to the other buffer when I clicked on it.
[00:20]<maxgg>ah
[00:20]<maxgg>good luck
[00:20]<rrygn606>Wanted to make a note particularly of the link.
[00:20]<rrygn606>dchen: Thanks much.
[00:20]<maxgg>hey i'd love to see your product, msg me if you have no problem sharing the url
[00:20]<maxgg>i am sure some people here are curious too
[00:21]<rrygn606>dchen: The product isn't really available online and unfortunately I've signed an NDA>
[00:21]<maxgg>no problem
[00:21]<rrygn606>dchen: I'd love to show it to you otherwise or even just tell you about it.
[00:21]<maxgg>do please let us konw when you can say something about it
[00:21]<maxgg>:)
[00:22]<rrygn606>Heh, will do.
[00:22]<maxgg>yeah i think a lot of independent game developers are keeping a close watch on screenweaver
[00:22]<maxgg>i wish macromedia would champion it
[00:23]<maxgg>Macromedia helping IGV is like Toyota selling Scion
[00:23]<maxgg>it could do them a lot of good, sell a lot of copies of flash
[00:24]<kjr>dchen: you ever done low level FS stuff in windows?
[00:25]<maxgg>(for those out of the auto-loop, Scion marketing usually pay for bands you've never heard of, and once you've heard of them--they stop funding it)
[00:25]<maxgg>they sponsor even
[00:25]<maxgg>Kog: ?
[00:25]<maxgg>FS?
[00:26]<kjr>filesystem
[00:26]<maxgg>my windows system programming background is really relaly rusty
[00:26]<maxgg>so no
[00:28]<maxgg>so caine607 are you a program manager?
[00:28]<maxgg>just shape, design and architect the game development effort?
[00:30]<rrygn606>dchen: I'm a programmer. I've got something like 16 years of experience. I do research as my day job and this game project is a side project.
[00:30]<maxgg>Arild: may i ask you another question about PoSH?
[00:30]<maxgg>caine607: sweet
[00:31]<maxgg>Arild: sorry about the asking to ask, but anyway, does PoSH access things like Sql Server 2005 out of the box?
[00:31]<rrygn606>dchen: research in AI and multi agent systems.
[00:31]<maxgg>or is it a noob question because you just use the library?
[00:31]<maxgg>caine607: sweet :)
[00:31]<maxgg>i mean the system.db.sql library in .net
[00:32]<maxgg>caine607: man i wish i have your brain
[00:35]<maxgg>oh one more thing of concern
[00:36]<maxgg>the projectors generated by screenweaver may be illegal in terms of distribution
[00:36]<maxgg>basically, to redistribute the player (which is part of the projector you generate), you need macromedia's permission
[00:36]<maxgg>they don't want flash associated with pr0n and nazi and shit like that
[00:36]<maxgg>so they have a licensing system (which is also a source of income, in the form of paid support)
[00:37]<maxgg>and the commercial projector licensees, some of them go through the proper channels and license the player
[00:37]<maxgg>so you have real right to deploy flash like that, as executables
[00:37]<maxgg>when you buy the projector-generator
[00:38]<maxgg>some don't care, they just generate this projector that embeds your movie and the flash player
[00:38]<rrygn606>dchen: Hrmmm I'm seeing people pointing to C# on mac osx....
[00:38]<maxgg>and hope for the best
[00:38]<rrygn606>I.e. from msft, not dotgnu or mono
[00:38]<maxgg>there's Mono on mac
[00:38]<maxgg>doesn't mean there's WPE on mac though ;-)
[00:39]<rrygn606>dchen: Hm, I think we can get permission from mm.
[00:39]<rrygn606>dchen: Msft apparently is pushing c# for osx now.
[00:39]<rrygn606>http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?displaylang=en&familyid=3A1C93FA-7462-47D0-8E56-8DD34C6292F0&displaylang=en
[00:39]<maxgg>you are kidding? Sugoi
[00:39]<rrygn606>Perhaps I'm not understanding.
[00:40]<maxgg>i dunno
[00:40]<rrygn606>Dunno about WPE though.
[00:40]<maxgg>basically you should be looking for something like the existence of .Net Framework Redistributable Run-time for Mac OS X
[00:40]<maxgg>i don't think that day has come yet
