[14:33]<mjzymygo>and you don't get sick pay and/or holiday pay
[14:34]<zyccus>the latter is why I'd say you need more
[14:34]<mjzymygo>he was trying to put me on his PAYE I think.
[14:34]<mjzymygo>He was a wierd dude.
[14:34]<mjzymygo>great fun, but fuck all HR
[14:34]<fyfuym-syfggag>lol
[14:35]<fyfuym-syfggag>100 pounds a day
[14:35]<fyfuym-syfggag>that like nothing
[14:35]<mjzymygo>so anyway, I pulled a favour off someone and now I'll work for NPower to until XMas
[14:35]<mjzymygo>=)
[14:35]<mjzymygo>so anyway... what reason did that dude leave for?
[14:35]<zyccus>many
[14:35]<mjzymygo>they were?
[14:36]<zyccus>basically couldn't stand the bosses getting richer while trying to give the rest of the staff no rises (not even inflation)
[14:36]<mjzymygo>hehe
[14:36]<mjzymygo>sounds right
[14:36]<zyccus>and him having to do development while our boss didn't (but she does project management and design... which is more stressful)
[14:37]<zyccus>so he was a bit twatty there
[14:37]<mjzymygo>Boss: "I'll give you an x% rise if you meet this deadline"
[14:37]<zyccus>he thought she should be doing development
[14:37]<mjzymygo>Me: met the deadline
[14:37]<mjzymygo>Boss: "Sorry, but we didn't get that contract and you needed more staff... get that deadline and it will happen"
[14:37]<mjzymygo>me: fuck you.. bye
[14:38]<zyccus>so many ways to lose staff
[14:38]<mjzymygo>rikkus: wierd shit.
[14:38]<lyzxvxzddnz_>ermmmmm ... o_O i know im schizo
[14:38]<lyzxvxzddnz_>but _
[14:39]<mjzymygo>I run the 3 strikes your out rule.
[14:39]<zyccus>oh yes that developer also was annoyed because our boss swans off to the gym or to have her hair done during the day... but she's on hourly rate and works weekends, when she's supposed to be on holiday etc... while he just did 9-5
[14:39]<mjzymygo>First time, fool me
[14:39]<mjzymygo>second time, maybe fool both of us
[14:39]<mjzymygo>third time. fuck you
[14:39]<mjzymygo>;)
[14:40]<mjzymygo>rikkus: what?
[14:40]<mjzymygo>you doing 9-5 then huh?
[14:40]<zyccus>yes
[14:40]<mjzymygo>not much voluntary overtime goes on there I think
[14:40]<lyzxvxzddnz_>\m/ -> rock on !
[14:40]<zyccus>I don't do more than 9-5... if I do, I get less done
[14:40]<zyccus>it's not a strict rule - I just try to stick to it
[14:41]<mjzymygo>It's a good XP rule
[14:41]<zyccus>right - when I read XP Explained, I started doing it
[14:41]<zyccus>started being more productive
[14:41]<mjzymygo>but an extra hour doesn't harm anyone... especially when you get paid by the hour...
[14:41]<mjzymygo>rikkus: you ever thought of going contract?
[14:41]<zyccus>I used to
[14:42]<mjzymygo>why you stop?
[14:42]<zyccus>well, I was waiting to get paid from my last job - and it was getting later and later
[14:42]<zyccus>so I needed to take something quick, to pay the rent
[14:43]<zyccus>took this vb6 job (having never done any Windows development) and turned it into .NET after a few months
[14:43]<mjzymygo>hehe
[14:43]<mjzymygo>so this is the .NET learning curve job ;)
[14:43]<zyccus>now I have an 8 minute walk to work, nice office, nice people, nice job
[14:43]<zyccus>so I'm sticking around for the foreseeable future
[14:43]<mjzymygo>crap boss
[14:43]<zyccus>no, boss is good
[14:43]<zyccus>that developer was just jealous of her - for no good reason
[14:44]<mjzymygo>if you ain't getting cost of living added to your wages, i'd think of leaving too
[14:44]<mjzymygo>it's about maintaining your quality of life
[14:44]<zyccus>well, that was him... I got a 25% pay rise when he got nothing
[14:45]<zyccus>then I got another 12.5% 3 months later
[14:45]<mjzymygo>and a boss giving themselves a raise and not applying cost of living to the staff is a surefire way to fuck it up
[14:45]<mjzymygo>rikkus: ah! well ;) thats different
[14:45]<mjzymygo>at my role I shared with smellyhippy I had to fight tooth and nail to get my team paid what they should
[14:46]<mjzymygo>it was a major motivation problem there considering how much money the company made
[14:46]<zyccus>you shouldn't have to do that
[14:46]<mjzymygo>no. I shouldn't have had to
[14:47]<zyccus>If I don't get cost of living rises, I'll just say that I'm not happy, and if they do nothing in a couple of months, hand in my notice
[14:47]<mjzymygo>me and the CEO did not leave on good terms
[14:47]<mjzymygo>rikkus: thats what I would do
[14:50]<mjzymygo>rikkus: that CEO was the same company at which the "Convert this PHP to ASP" fiasco occured... did me or smellyhippy tell you about that one?
[14:50]<drygq>im using the 'SQLite ADO.NET 2.0 Provider ' after running a query to retrieve some data, a method can be used to actually aquire the data queried for
[14:50]<mjzymygo>^_^
[14:51]<zyccus>Moridin8: no...
[14:51]<drygq>but the method returns a 'object'
[14:51]<mjzymygo>hehe
[14:51]<drygq>of what type is an object? :/
[14:51]<mjzymygo>well... this is how the story goes (if your interested)
[14:51]<zyccus>main2: do you perhaps need to cast it to the type you expect based on your query?
[14:51]<zyccus>Moridin8: yes...
[14:52]<drygq>Return Value
[14:52]<drygq>object
[14:52]<drygq>i have no idea wether i need to cast it or not -
[14:52]<mjzymygo>The "Boss" landed a job that needed doing straight away, neglecting to remember that there were like 4 other deadlines due in that month
[14:52]<zyccus>Moridin8: one of those :)
[14:53]<sdnffdxdlld>main2: you using ExecuteScalar?
[14:53]<mjzymygo>anyway, he brings in the PM and me (Technical Manager)
[14:53]<mjzymygo>he asks me how much time it would take to do the work, which was to convert a site from PHP to ASP so it would work on the companies servers.
[14:53]<mjzymygo>well, as you can imagine I was a bit pissed off that I wasn't conculted on this at all.
[14:53]<zyccus>10 minutes... install PHP ;)
[14:53]<sdnffdxdlld>rikkus: you have to pay for vistadb?
[14:54]<zyccus>smellyhippy: yes
[14:54]<mjzymygo>rikkus: the client didn't it in PHP and they were to get a full copy of the converted code...
[14:54]<sdnffdxdlld>then theres some very good reasons why people would use sqlite over vistadb ;)
[14:54]<mjzymygo>rikkus: and I have no idea why that was the way it was... but that was it
[14:55]<drygq>smellyhippy: no im not, im using ExecuteReader
[14:55]<mjzymygo>anyway, I gave date X. the boss was not happy ... but I shrugged my shoulders and went back to work on the deadline.
[14:55]<mjzymygo>he and the PM were left alone
[14:55]<mjzymygo>and then the Senior Designer was called in
[14:55]<mjzymygo>anyway. thats the last I hear of the thing for three days
