[14:55]<sdnffdxdlld>ExecuteReader returns an IDataReader ... so what you mean is what type doesdataReader.GetValue() return?
[14:56]<drygq>yeah indeed smellyhippy :)
[14:56]<fyfuym-syfggag>ghei
[14:56]<mjzymygo>anyway, after three days the PM and SD are over the moon... the converted the entire site to ASP... they rubbed my nose in it and it was a general gloat fest all around.
[14:56]<mjzymygo>so... they put it live.
[14:56]<sdnffdxdlld>well you need to cast it to what it is lol ... you access the db ... you should know what it is ;)
[14:56]<mjzymygo>and rikkus: guess what happens
[14:56]<sdnffdxdlld>if its an int then cast to int ... if its a string cast to string
[14:57]<sdnffdxdlld>and so on
[14:57]<zyccus>Moridin8: rmdir /s c: ?
[14:57]<sdnffdxdlld>there also stringly typed versions of that method
[14:57]<fyfuym-syfggag>smellyhippy can I cast a spell on you?
[14:57]<mjzymygo>nothing works.
[14:57]<sdnffdxdlld>dr.GetInt()
[14:57]<mjzymygo>at all
[14:57]<sdnffdxdlld>dr.GetString()
[14:57]<drygq>you got me thinking now smelly
[14:57]<fyfuym-syfggag>dr.STFU
[14:57]<drygq>=)
[14:57]<zyccus>Moridin8: how had they 'converted' it?
[14:57]<mjzymygo>so while I sit in the corner smilinh to myself
[14:57]<fyfuym-syfggag>smellyhippy
[14:57]<fyfuym-syfggag>why
[14:57]<fyfuym-syfggag>do
[14:57]<fyfuym-syfggag>you
[14:57]<fyfuym-syfggag>press
[14:57]<mjzymygo>they tried to fix it
[14:57]<fyfuym-syfggag>enter
[14:57]<fyfuym-syfggag>so
[14:57]<fyfuym-syfggag>many
[14:57]<mjzymygo>and failed
[14:57]<sdnffdxdlld>they had converted it in a fashion worthy of tdwtf
[14:57]<fyfuym-syfggag>times?
[14:58]<mjzymygo>they (behind my back) got one of my team to look at it... and he came back in... sat down and laughed.
[14:58]<mjzymygo>he said he was not to tell me why it was broken
[14:58]<sdnffdxdlld>Liquid-Silence: because I'm spending time think about work rather than chat so my irc thoughts get broen up
[14:58]<mjzymygo>and here is why:
[14:58]<fyfuym-syfggag>smellyhippy :d
[14:58]<mjzymygo>they changed all the .php extensions to...
[14:58]<mjzymygo>.asp
[14:58]<fyfuym-syfggag>omfg
[14:58]<zyccus>lol
[14:58]<fyfuym-syfggag>and they expected it to wokr?
[14:59]<mjzymygo>totally.
[14:59]<zyccus>Moridin8: I have a colleague who wanted to convert a .doc file to .txt... and asked if she could just change the extension.
[14:59]<mjzymygo>they were dumbfounded when it didn't work.
[14:59]<mjzymygo>the project was lost... ;)
[14:59]<zyccus>Moridin8: she was once employed as a 'VB.NET developer' - at this company, she does installations and support, thankfully.
[14:59]<mjzymygo>rikkus: *LOL*
[15:00]<mjzymygo>the thing is, my relationship with the PM, SD and Boss declined considerably at that point, even though I hadn't done a thing
[15:00]<zyccus>Moridin8: I eventually explained it all to her - i.e. 'how the f*ck do you think the thing gets converted? Windows just notices you changed the extension and goes and strips out all the formatting?' ....
[15:01]<zyccus>now she jokes about it, but I'm still fearful of her
[15:01]<mjzymygo>yeh... do be
[15:01]<fyfuym-syfggag>lol
[15:01]<mjzymygo>women have loooooong memories and like to strike cold
[15:01]<sdnffdxdlld>lol our own personal paula's :P
[15:02]<sdnffdxdlld>or reprisentativs of the insane womens league
[15:02]<sdnffdxdlld>reprisentatives
[15:02]<sdnffdxdlld>hmmm closer
[15:04]<zyccus>She is quite threatening
[15:04]<zyccus>but then so am I
[15:04]<mjzymygo>hehe... it sounds like she is a true VB developer...
[15:05]<mjzymygo>rikkus: I think you need to move away from the dark side of the .NET
[15:05]<mjzymygo>;)
[15:05]<zyccus>ok, speaking of the dark side
[15:05]<zyccus>we have a bloke here from an offshoring company
[15:05]<zyccus>we've been asked to estimate how long it'll take to do this project
[15:06]<zyccus>which is basically this: asp.net app which stores user info and some tiny bits of other stuff, plus calls a crystal report and dumps the result out to the user so they get a PDF to download or a ZIP full of them
[15:06]<zyccus>report already exists
[15:07]<mjzymygo>uhuh
[15:07]<zyccus>he says 4 months
[15:07]<mjzymygo>FUCK ME WHAT?
[15:07]<sdnffdxdlld>2 weeks inc testing?
[15:07]<zyccus>I reckon 2 weeks
[15:07]<zyccus>right
[15:07]<sdnffdxdlld>lol ;)
[15:07]<mjzymygo>maybe 3 if the system is fubar
[15:07]<zyccus>he says 4 months without some part so fit
[15:07]<mjzymygo>but 4 months?
[15:07]<zyccus>parts of it
[15:08]<mjzymygo>wtf
[15:08]<mjzymygo>...?
[15:08]<zyccus>indeed
[15:08]<zyccus>and we already have half the code, because we can re-use it from a product I made recently
[15:08]<mjzymygo>hehe... I used to make estimates the way I do again now and then get them halved by the boss and PM.
[15:08]<zyccus>... the basic app structure, the user stuff
[15:08]<mjzymygo>so I started to double the times... only to find they then started to dedunct 75% off the times
[15:08]<mjzymygo>and they wondered why deadlines were not met.
[15:09]<mjzymygo>but thats just stupidly extreme in the other direction
[15:09]<zyccus>and I made the crystal report bit work yesterday when just pissing about to see how hard it was... so we'd need ... some sharpziplib magic, and that's about it
[15:09]<zyccus>As I think I said before - I always quite in no. of hours of work
[15:09]<mjzymygo>huh? sorry english fuzzed in my brain.. repeat?
[15:10]<mjzymygo>quote?
[15:10]<zyccus>s/quite/quote/, sorry
[15:10]<zyccus>and when someone asks if I'm getting near finished on something, I say how many hours I've had on it out of the number quoted
[15:10]<zyccus>seems to work
[15:10]<mjzymygo>ooh... my contract terms were accepted...
[15:10]<mjzymygo>fuck... I should negotiated for more >_<
[15:11]<zyccus>oh and when I say 'That'll take 20 hours' and they say 'so 3 days then', I say 'no, because I'm doing other projects at the same time'...
[15:11]<mjzymygo>rikkus: yeh, I started to do that. and then reminded them of my original time quote ;)
