[22:39]<vynvyv>to the server?
[22:39]<vynvyv>same computer?
[22:39]<zzcn>it will be during development but not during deployment
[22:39]<vynvyv>oh that's a lil different
[22:40]<vynvyv>yeah i guess webservices would be good for that
[22:40]<zzcn>hehehe
[22:40]<zzcn>Arild: nice
[22:40]<vynvyv>but that remoting thing
[22:40]<vynvyv>that sounds like java's rmi
[22:41]<vynvyv>would probably be better
[22:41]<vynvyv>if you plan to only use .net with your app
[22:42]<azyfm>MS' Team Foundation Server uses web services
[22:42]<azyfm>that's made it pretty easy to write a linux client for it
[22:42]<azyfm>http://www.teamprize.com/
[22:43]<zzcn>yeah its all .NET
[22:43]<zzcn>hehe
[22:43]<kjr>Arild: that's a slick link with all the definitions
[22:43]<vynvyv>i just feel like you're violating KISS if you use it for something that won't interop with another language
[22:43]<kjr>tieTYT: it's SOAP
[22:44]<zzcn>Kog: does it wash my dishes too?
[22:44]<vynvyv>so?
[22:44]<kjr>arke: no, you're not cool enough
[22:44]<azyfm>Kog: IIS gives you that page for all webservices hosted on it
[22:44]<zzcn>;)
[22:44]<kjr>Arild: I figured as much
[22:44]<azyfm>it's built-in
[22:44]<kjr>Arild: still slick
[22:44]<zzcn>neat
[22:44]<zzcn>so
[22:44]<zzcn>it means I have to install IIS locally though
[22:45]<zzcn>where could I get it? etc.
[22:45]<azyfm>not with VS 2005
[22:45]<kjr>arke: I would imagine it'd be more secure to remote
[22:45]<zzcn>oh?
[22:45]<azyfm>it comes with a built-in webserver
[22:45]<kjr>although, there's an encryption payload mechanism for SOAP
[22:45]<zzcn>Arild: w000t!!!
[22:45]<azyfm>only accepts requests from localhost
[22:45]<zzcn>Kog: with remoting I'd have to implement my own whatever layer on it though, rihgT?
[22:45]<zzcn>or am i wrong
[22:46]<kjr>I've never used remoting, just RMI
[22:46]<azyfm>no
[22:46]<kjr>I would imagine not, if it's like RMI
[22:46]<azyfm>remoting also gives you more flexibility in what types you can pass
[22:46]<kjr>Arild: do you just need the interfaces, then run some sort of seperate compiler?
[22:46]<azyfm>no separate compiler
[22:46]<kjr>ah, glad to hear it
[22:46]<zzcn>so how would remoting work then?
[22:46]<zzcn>same deal except without the XML/SOAP stuff inbetween?
[22:47]<azyfm>the client just needs access to either an interface implemented by the remoted object or the assembly containing the remoted object itself
[22:47]<kjr>arke: http://www.developer.com/net/net/article.php/2201701
[22:47]<azyfm>prety much
[22:47]<azyfm>http://www.thinktecture.com/resources/remotingfaq/default.html
[22:47]<kjr>arke: dunno if it's a good article, but it's Web Services vs. Remoting
[22:47]<zzcn>thanks :)
[22:48]<zgzzcygnv>hrmmm
[22:49]<zgzzcygnv>how to delete files + folders from an NTFS location when no users have permissions?
[22:49]<zgzzcygnv>(not via C#)
[22:49]<kjr>with a recovery disk
[22:49]<zgzzcygnv>just in general
[22:49]<zgzzcygnv>nope
[22:50]<zgzzcygnv>i tried that
[22:50]<zgzzcygnv>i get "Access Denied" even from a recovery disk
[22:50]<frdlcyg>can't you take ownership of files and folders on an ntfs drive?
[22:50]<kjr>lampkin: if you're either local or domain admin you should be able to
[22:50]<zgzzcygnv>no...because no users have access
[22:50]<zgzzcygnv>not even SYSTEM
[22:50]<zgzzcygnv>its the Windows folder that Vista created
[22:50]<kjr>oh
[22:51]<zgzzcygnv>also
[22:51]<frdlcyg>ah, vista. Sorry, not tried vista yet.
[22:51]<rxrcr>oh good game
[22:51]<zgzzcygnv>the ProgramData and Program Files folders
[22:51]<zgzzcygnv>erm..
[22:51]<zgzzcygnv>6?
[22:51]<zgzzcygnv>i don't have vista installed
[22:51]<kjr>Vista's NTFS version
[22:51]<rxrcr>Tx NTFS
[22:51]<zgzzcygnv>i just tried it on that drive
[22:51]<kjr>chaka: Rx NTFS
[22:51]<rxrcr>heh
[22:52]<kjr>alright, time to get back to the convention center
[22:52]<kjr>AnarkiNet: it's your last chance to attend...
[22:52]<rxrcr>Kog, if NTFS is the perscription, I don't want to know the problem
[22:52]<lnvnzxu>gah is it happy hour time yet?
[22:52]<kjr>chaka: oh, I was doing transmission/reception
[22:52]<rxrcr>Kog oh I'm not cool enough to know that up front
[22:54]<zgzzcygnv>kog i have to work at 6
[22:54]<zgzzcygnv>and i'm busy trying to unfuck my comp
[22:54]<rxrcr>AnarkiNet, so you tried to install vista but didn't?
[22:55]<zgzzcygnv>no
[22:55]<zgzzcygnv>i installed vista
[22:55]<zgzzcygnv>it worked o.k
[22:55]<zgzzcygnv>but i removed it and went back to XP
[22:55]<frdlcyg>I know on XP there is an option "replace owner on subcontainers and objects" i have used that on files and folders where no users (including system) have access rights, as far as I knew. I guess that's not much use here then.
[22:55]<zgzzcygnv>right, that won't work
[22:55]<zgzzcygnv>because nothing has access
[22:55]<frdlcyg>yes, that's why you take ownership I believe
[22:55]<zgzzcygnv>so Windows won't be able to modify permissions because it wont let itself
[22:56]<zgzzcygnv>dude, you can not do that
