[13:59]<rwyfcygs>Blimey, typewriter metaphors can't have died out already, can they
[13:59]<rwyfcygs>Yes, I mean enter
[14:00]<rwyfcygs>(On a mechanical typewriter, the roller the paper sat on was the "carriage" and when you wanted a new line, you pulled the lever that returned the carriage to the left.)
[14:01]<rwyfcygs>s/left/right/
[14:03]<mjzymygo>CEO: You having difficulties with the current bugs in project X?
[14:03]<mjzymygo>me: erm... I've still to recieve them from the PM
[14:04]<mjzymygo>CEO: oh, but surely you know how to repeat them?
[14:04]<mjzymygo>me: how would I *you idiot*, and anyway, the PM said project Y was a priority
[14:04]<mjzymygo>CEO: it is. just fix the errors
[14:04]<mjzymygo>Me: which ones?
[14:04]<mjzymygo>CEO: you don't know?
[14:05]<mjzymygo>Me: if I did and could identify them I could fix them
[14:05]<mjzymygo>CEO: oh.
[14:05]<mjzymygo>>.<
[14:05]<lcs>lol
[14:05]<mjzymygo>deadline 2:30... >.<
[14:05]<mjzymygo>I wasn't even told that...
[14:05]<mjzymygo>fucking PM
[14:05]<lcs>and now is 1:03?
[14:06]<mjzymygo>12:03
[14:06]<lcs>oh, so you have time
[14:06]<lcs>chill out :)
[14:06]<mjzymygo>pks: if ou could turn hours into days, yeh, i'd have time
[14:06]<lcs>actualy, hours change to days when i am at work
[14:06]<lcs>so i can do that
[14:06]<mjzymygo>this PM sucks butt
[14:06]<lcs>;p
[14:06]<lcs>PM like Product Management?
[14:07]<mjzymygo>Project Manager
[14:07]<lcs>oh, ok
[14:07]<lcs>did he send you bug list via mail?
[14:07]<lcs>or ar least give you paper with list of them?
[14:07]<mjzymygo>half the problem as to why i'm here doing what I am doing...
[14:07]<mjzymygo>It's the sort of errors that occur only when a certain process is followed.
[14:08]<mjzymygo>and unless I know step by step the process, I can't id the fuckup, not even based off the audit trail.
[14:08]<lcs>and you have no idea which process causes this bug, right? :)
[14:08]<mjzymygo>nope.
[14:08]<mjzymygo>not one idea
[14:08]<lcs>but someone knows?
[14:08]<mjzymygo>could be any number of O(N^2)
[14:08]<mjzymygo>yeh... the testers/PM
[14:08]<lcs>so ask them
[14:09]<mjzymygo>but it's the PM's responsibility to allocate time and send the stuff to me
[14:09]<lcs>yes, its their time
[14:09]<lcs>send him email with information that you havnt recived bug list yet
[14:09]<lcs>this way you will have cover ;)
[14:09]<rwyfcygs>I presume automating him out of existence is not an option...
[14:10]<mjzymygo>I think CEO will be having a few words with the PM right now... unless the PM blows him off again (not actually back up with evidence - he might not be having sexual relations with that women )
[14:10]<lcs>wowowo
[14:10]<rwyfcygs>I always end up thinking that UIs should come with full-zombie automation and macro recording facilities
[14:10]<mjzymygo>awilkins... in 8 days it won't matter ;)
[14:10]<rwyfcygs>That way testers can always run in macro-recording mode and you can get a bug trace from the disk log of which UI feature they are using
[14:10]<lcs>awilkins: yea, just pust button to the do action number 2345
[14:11]<mjzymygo>awilkins: there are some real nice test suites out there tht do that kind of thing, but my client can't afford it
[14:11]<rwyfcygs>It's a shame that most apps with "big UI" are not designed this way ; if the Command pattern was adopted more widely it would be great.
[14:11]<mjzymygo>BadBoy is a nice free one, but not very complex. not enough for what I a dealing with
[14:12]<rwyfcygs>Is it a web?
[14:12]<mjzymygo>awilkins: technically the audit trail (had been properly and fully implemented) should have been enough
[14:12]<mjzymygo>awilkins: extranet system. lots of AJAX
[14:12]<lcs>uh
[14:12]<lcs>i hate web programming
[14:12]<rwyfcygs>Likewise
[14:12]<mjzymygo>me too..
[14:12]<rwyfcygs>Backends, yes
[14:12]<mjzymygo>but hey, it pays
[14:12]<rwyfcygs>WebUI Blechblechblech
[14:12]<lcs>yeap, nothing to do with presentation
[14:13]<mjzymygo>I have had to repear all layers. WebUI is like 20% of the work
[14:13]<mjzymygo>i'm going to work on a greenfield project next.
[14:13]<rwyfcygs>Is the HTTP request log enough?
[14:13]<mjzymygo>I miss greenfield work *sigh*
[14:13]<mjzymygo>awilkins: nope.
[14:14]<mjzymygo>and either way, due to some wierd politics, I can't get the request logs anyway
[14:14]<lcs>huehue
[14:14]<rwyfcygs>gah
[14:15]<mjzymygo>besides, it would be the data within the CGI POST that would be of interest to me... again... audit trail not implemented right
[14:15]<rwyfcygs>THat's like us ; we can't get message queues from live systems because they contain patient data
[14:15]<rwyfcygs>Never mind that when I was in private enterprise I could access bascially any medical record on any of our systems.
[14:15]<mjzymygo>awilkins: my wife wants to rip your heart out... ;) she is so sick of the NHS system your working on
[14:16]<rwyfcygs>Which one?
[14:16]<mjzymygo>the big expensive one that sucks butt
[14:16]<rwyfcygs>I hear Choose & Book crashed at the weekend (front page news in Metro today)
[14:16]<mjzymygo>she works in a lab atm
[14:16]<rwyfcygs>The £12bn figure really isn't fair, it wasn't all spent on that one project.
[14:17]<rwyfcygs>Pathlab systems are still overwhemingly VT100 based and run on the likes of AS/400
[14:17]<mjzymygo>fook... phone again. I bet this is A. the CEO B. the PM
[14:17]<mjzymygj|pxjgn>CEO
[14:17]<mjzymygj|pxjgn>>.< bbl
[14:17]<mjzymygj|pxjgn>yo smips
[14:18]<rwyfcygs>We had no end of trouble integrating the damn things because i) they're written in COBOL ii) the company that bought the original authors let all the original coders go iii) THey haven't got the f**king sourcecode anyways
[14:18]<sdnffdxdlld>I've just been invited to italy for the weekend lol :P
[14:22]<rwyfcygs>smellyhippy: Well, since it's p**sing it down here in the UK, I'd be inclined to go.
[14:23]<sdnffdxdlld>lol aye but its sorting it all out ;)
[14:23]<sdnffdxdlld>I need the firday off really
[14:23]<sdnffdxdlld>and I dont have the days left to take it
[14:24]<sdnffdxdlld>only got 5 to last me till jan and I wanna take a 1/2 day next week
[14:24]<rwyfcygs>I'm wondering whether to eat the ramen under my desk or go out in the driving rain for a slice of pizza
[14:25]<rwyfcygs>I think I need the fresh air
[14:25]<sdnffdxdlld>evil rain!
