[16:49]<rxrcr>so um yeah
[16:49]<rwyfcygs>I predict the next question is "Are they hot, though?"
[16:49]<cjmgrug>no. rest is upto my imagination :p
[16:50]<cjmgrug>i dont know any professional programmers, personally. So IRC is where i ask my doubts :p
[16:51]<cxrfnm>google has a lot of female programmers too
[16:51]<cjmgrug>khaled, you work for google?
[16:51]<rwyfcygs>Given the sheer number of *programmers* that google have, I'd imagine a certain demographic percentage is inevitable
[16:51]<cxrfnm>CodeRun, nah, I did internship at Actel, which 5 mins from Google and Microsoft, Mountain View
[16:52]<cjmgrug>i see
[16:52]<cxrfnm>I would see them all over on the street, wearing google t-shirts
[16:52]<cxrfnm>just too many of them
[16:52]<cxrfnm>he he
[16:52]<cjmgrug>how they hell do they manage such a huge team of programmers?
[16:52]<rxrcr>awilkins, I would venture a good 40% of the devs and testers here are female
[16:52]<cxrfnm>CodeRun, it is a mess, i have been to google as part of Google SoC
[16:52]<cxrfnm>it is like a shopping mall
[16:52]<cjmgrug>summer of code?
[16:53]<cxrfnm>looks like no one is working
[16:53]<rwyfcygs>Google job advert : WANTED ; Talented Cat-Herder
[16:53]<cjmgrug>heh
[16:53]<cxrfnm>CodeRun, yes, summer of code
[16:53]<rwyfcygs>I can imagine it looks like noone is working ; just think, the real value of them is the occasional blip of inspiration
[16:53]<cjmgrug>never understood what Google SoC is for.
[16:54]<cxrfnm>CodeRun, it is a very cool program which lets student to participate in open source projects
[16:54]<cxrfnm>and Google pays for the participation
[16:54]<svzz[wjzc]>and be remunerated
[16:54]<rwyfcygs>Who cares that they hammer code all day when all their stuff is deployed so widely ; as long as they contribute one tiny thing once in a while, the overall impace will be staggering because of the sheer scale of Googles operations
[16:54]<cjmgrug>hey nice
[16:55]<rwyfcygs>Yeah, SoC is sponsoring some sub-projects for MythTV
[16:55]<cjmgrug>is it like you have to be there physically or you can participate online too/
[16:55]<rwyfcygs>Things like automated TV commercial detection
[16:55]<rwyfcygs>I don't think you have to be there physically
[16:55]<svzz[wjzc]>CodeRun online can do
[16:55]<cxrfnm>awilkins, yes, i think google also encourages them to wear their t-shirts and roam around the campus
[16:55]<cjmgrug>nice.
[16:55]<cxrfnm>we got Microsoft there too
[16:55]<svzz[wjzc]>CodeRun check on google there are rules somewhere, it's rpetty pretty nice, as long as your a student :)
[16:55]<cxrfnm>i am working with the Mono Project
[16:56]<cjmgrug>cool, khaled
[16:56]<cjmgrug>yeah, i'll search for it, StaZ[work]
[16:56]<awjzdd>khaled: have you made any contributions>?
[16:56]<cxrfnm>jwormy, well.. yes, i have been committing patches
[16:57]<cxrfnm>the library is not stable yet
[16:57]<cxrfnm>but it is in progress
[16:57]<awjzdd>khaled: very coool
[16:57]<cxrfnm>GStreamer#
[16:57]<awjzdd>i want to work with the castle project.
[16:57]<cxrfnm>jwormy, mono guys are really welcoming and helpful
[16:57]<cxrfnm>just drop by the channel and ask around
[16:58]<awjzdd>but the members i have talked to first hand are all really rude and not-so-helpful
[16:58]<cxrfnm>jwormy, yes, there is always few of those
[16:58]<awjzdd>not to mention just reading their forum posts you can tell they are assholes.. so i'll just keep my helpers to myself :)
[16:59]<drdyrrr>you can only be calm polite and helpful for so many times answering the same questions that are in the faq before you loose it
[16:59]<cxrfnm>yeh, that too, i guess
[16:59]<cjmgrug>make the bots do they tedious repetition
[17:00]<cjmgrug>so, the noobs are happy, you are happy and the bot is always happy :p
[17:00]<awjzdd>damieng: out of the 4 questions i've asked none of them have been documented anywhere.. which would be why i asked them.
[17:00]<cxrfnm>jwormy, yes, mono is very poor in documentation
[17:00]<drdyrrr>fair enough
[17:01]<cxrfnm>i had very hard time getting used to their stuff
[17:01]<awjzdd>damieng: but i completely understand that. I always post code / exception / innerexception with my uestions also.
[17:01]<rwyfcygs>I never understood people being assholes with users when they talk in dev channels
[17:02]<awjzdd>damieng: and nothing is more frustrating when a guy post (omg it don't work gives an exception when i save please help!)
[17:02]<drdyrrr>err well if the users are in a dev channel...
[17:02]<awjzdd>awilkins: some of the questions that are asked here deserve asshole treatment
[17:02]<cxrfnm>by the way, have you guys tried F# yet ?
[17:03]<cxrfnm>the advanced language for .NET framework
[17:03]<rwyfcygs>errr nothing ; I'm a user who understands enough to be a developer, when I dare to enter a dev channel, I like to think that I am asking a question with enough detail that it could lead to improvements in their project.
[17:03]<drdyrrr>you forgot the word "research" or "experimental" in there khaled
[17:03]<rwyfcygs>Summary treatment of *anyone* as an asshole, even when they could feasibly contribute, is just lame.
[17:03]<cxrfnm>damieng, he he, it will eventually be out with a different name
[17:04]<cxrfnm>i would love the name k#
[17:04]<cxrfnm>ha ha
[17:04]<nffylsys_>how do I test for the existence of a folder in C#?
[17:04]<awjzdd>ellipsis_: see.. you deserve asshole treatment right now..
[17:05]<nffylsys_>why is that?
[17:05]<awjzdd>ellipsis_: because a simple google search yields the result to your query.
[17:05]<nffylsys_>ah
[17:05]<nffylsys_>well
[17:05]<awjzdd>bool testicle = System.IO.Directory.Exists.......
[17:06]<nffylsys_>sorry about that then
[17:07]<rwyfcygs>People in here are nicer than average, I think.
[17:07]<awjzdd>awilkins: i a gree
[17:07]<nffylsys_>nicer than #linux, yes
[17:07]<awjzdd>awilkins: lol.. or ##java
[17:08]<cjmgrug>thats coz C# is simpler to explain and understand.
[17:08]<nffylsys_>no
[17:08]<nffylsys_>it's because C# programmers aren't elitists
[17:09]<rwyfcygs>True, we don't have an ivory tower to spit on the peons from.
[17:09]<cjmgrug>doesnt that mean, we're collectively inferior to 'them' ?
[17:10]<nffylsys_>how so?
[17:10]<rwyfcygs>Depends on what your axis of "superior..inferior" measures
[17:10]<sljjcn>someone knows how to invoke the method of the biding source that stores the data in the table of the datase?
[17:10]<rwyfcygs>"Less of an asshat" ; hey, we are superior on that scale
[17:10]<sljjcn>dataset?
[17:10]<sljjcn>asshat = ?
[17:11]<nffylsys_>that's like a whitehat
[17:11]<cjmgrug>heh
[17:11]<nffylsys_>only more of an ass
