[01:42]<sljjcn>i came from vb ! :)
[01:42]<dyguw>Bah
[01:42]<dyguw>Jesus, of course it VC++ =)
[01:42]<dyguw>it's*
[01:45]<sdyzgjv>vc++ is the old school visual studio
[01:45]<dyguw>indeed
[01:45]<pz2>programming is hard, lets go shopping
[01:47]<sdyzgjv>minux: gah i have been sitting in that channel forever
[01:48]<dyguw>smirnov: It takes quite awhile sometimes ;)
[01:48]<vjym[]>what's really the difference between Control.Created and Control.IsHandleCreated? In what case will Created be false.. and when will one be true and the other be false?
[01:55]<pz2>grrr
[01:56]<pz2>I opened my web page in the internal browser inside VWD, it asked if I wanted to debug, I said "yes" and nothing happened
[02:01]<zj2-wzc>void[]: if I remember right, IsHandleCreated is not true until a real OS GDI handle is created for the object, which may not be true until you make the control visible or other events take place. There were some bugs in a few controls at one point where the handle did not get created in some instances and things went boom.
[02:02]<vjym[]>thanks
[02:03]<kjr>void[]: silly rabbit, arrays are for real types
[02:04]<vjym[]>I'm special
[02:04]<kjr>is that what your mommy tells you?
[02:04]<vjym[]>Exactly
[02:04]<pz2>you ride the short bus?
[02:04]<kjr>did you know "special" is a euphamism for stupidity? ;)
[02:04]<vjym[]>yes
[02:04]<vjym[]>I'm going along :)
[02:05]<kjr>smirnov: what do you need in #freenode?
[02:05]<sdyzgjv>Kog: maybe a cloak :)
[02:05]<sdyzgjv>it just redirects me to social
[02:05]<rxrcr>love how flexable .net's api can be.
[02:06]<kjr>smirnov: for a cloak make sure your nicks are linked, then look at /stats p
[02:06]<rxrcr>new DateTime(1970, 1, 1, 0, 0, 0, DateTimeKind.Utc).AddSeconds((double)unixtime)
[02:06]<sdyzgjv>linked ?
[02:06]<kjr>I wouldn't join #freenode, or whever it's pointed, because I'm set to an access of -1
[02:06]<kjr>smirnov: the website has a FAQ
[02:06]<dyguw>smirnov: read the FAQ on freenode website
[02:06]<sdyzgjv>ok
[02:24]<pz2>now this is odd
[02:24]<pz2>no matter what I do, VWD opens pages in Firefox, not IE
[02:24]<mererc>Heya, could someone point me at a good C# tutorial
[02:25]<sjgvnc>Right click on the project and click "Browse with.." and choose IE
[02:26]<pz2>ok, now, when I do that, and I have a JS error, why can't I debug it in VWD?
[02:27]<kjr>drazak: go to msdn
[02:27]<mererc>Kog: i hate the layout of msdn, but ok.
[02:27]<kjr>doesn't matter, that's the resource
[02:27]<pz2>drazak: go to www.asp.net
[02:27]<mererc>i have it all on dvd at my dad's
[02:27]<pz2>in the top right, it has an option to get examples in C# or VB
[02:27]<mererc>the whole fucking library
[02:28]<kjr>or... you could either download it for free, or use a webbrowser
[02:29]<mererc>true
[02:29]<mererc>my dad get's all the windows stuff through work
[02:29]<kjr>and?
[02:30]<kjr>it's freeeeee
[02:30]<mererc>and i can get whatever i need, i know it is
[02:30]<sdyzgjv|wjzc>drazak get a book from a lbirary
[02:30]<mererc>but i get it on shiny cds/dvds
[02:30]<sdyzgjv|wjzc>i read the C# book on o'reilly and pretty much learned C# (not the library of couse)
[02:31]<mererc>Smirnov|work: our library is so screwed up, they have books on soldering more memory in machines, instead of replacing dimms
[02:31]<kjr>I learned by knowing Java
[02:31]<sdyzgjv|wjzc>Does anyone here know when/if Martin Fowler is releasing a book on GUI design patterns?
[02:31]<kjr>came in and said "hey, I know how to write C#"
[02:31]<sdyzgjv|wjzc>Kog: haha its so similar :) but has lots of new things
[02:31]<kjr>Smirnov|work: people keep talking about GUI design patterns as if they exist, I don't think there's any sort of collection
[02:32]<sdyzgjv|wjzc>Kog: sure they do, martin fowler has a list of them
[02:32]<kjr>url?
[02:32]<sdyzgjv|wjzc>one sec
[02:32]<sdyzgjv|wjzc>http://martinfowler.com/eaaDev/index.html presentation patterns on the right
[02:33]<kjr>and those are specific to GUI?
[02:33]<gjd2zgaygf>is this channel for all C#/ASP .NET or just gnome/mono?
[02:33]<kjr>I see ~2-3
[02:33]<mererc>pretty much all C#
[02:33]<sdyzgjv|wjzc>as opposed to text-only user interfaces?
[02:33]<kjr>nombrecinq: we actually don't even talk about C#
[02:33]<gjd2zgaygf>no?
[02:33]<sdyzgjv|wjzc>nombrecinq: try #mono on the gnome server for that
[02:33]<kjr>Smirnov|work: as opposed to things that aren't GUI
[02:34]<kjr>Smirnov|work: no, we support Mono in here
[02:34]<kjr>Smirnov|work: stop bein ignant
[02:34]<gjd2zgaygf>i have a question about about master pages in ASP 2.0
[02:34]<sdyzgjv|wjzc>Kog: he wanted mono/gnome lol
[02:34]<kjr>nombrecinq: if anyone knows, they'll answer
[02:34]<kjr>Smirnov|work: and?
[02:34]<sdyzgjv|wjzc>I have never seen anyone here talk about Gtk#
[02:34]<kjr>Smirnov|work: you haven't been here very long
[02:34]<sdyzgjv|wjzc>I've been here for a few months
[02:34]<kjr>oh schnap, a few months!
[02:34]<sdyzgjv|wjzc>lolo
[02:34]<kjr>hm, info says... 4 years and 20 weeks old
[02:35]<sdyzgjv|wjzc>anyways, those presentatin patterns would be more useful with a longer explanation and code samples in C#
[02:35]<kjr>yup, not so long ;)
[02:35]<pz2>so I opened a web page inside visual web developer using the internal web browser, but it STILL doesn't let me debug it
[02:35]<sdyzgjv|wjzc>so what, i only started doing C# this june.
[02:35]<kjr>Smirnov|work: I'm arguing temporality, Fowler inspired me ;)
[02:36]<sdyzgjv|wjzc>Kog: oh I havent read his temporal patterns sorry :P
[02:36]<kjr>you're fired.
[02:36]<gjd2zgaygf>in my master page i can easily use asp:ContentPlaceHolder and asp:content within HTML
[02:36]<gjd2zgaygf>but i want to use it outside HTML
[02:36]<sdyzgjv|wjzc>hey most kids my age dont worry about design patterns
[02:36]<kjr>Smirnov|work: most people either worry not at all, or worry too much
[02:36]<gjd2zgaygf>so that i can call e.g. <asp:ContentPlaceHolder ID="language" runat="Server">, and it'll spit out the HTML from the master page
[02:36]<gjd2zgaygf>is that possible?
[02:36]<sdyzgjv|wjzc>I'm not particularly worried, just wondering when Martin Fowler will release the book :P
[02:37]<gjd2zgaygf>it doens't work but that's the kind of functionality i'm trying to do
