[04:44]<zr2nfmr2fn>thanks
[04:45]<pz2>the webdev toolbar works in IE6 and newer
[04:46]<dv1>Anyone know if there is any way to specify that there should be no spacing between inline elements?
[04:47]<20rv>mt3: Most don't have horizontal margin, so usually there is none. But white space between them in the source matters.
[04:47]<pz2>ie5 is dead, treat it as such
[04:47]<dv1>I see will take a look
[04:48]<dv1>ie5 is hardly dead, a lot of people use it
[04:48]<pz2>I don't care if people use it, it's dead
[04:48]<20rv>IE6 was a critical update years ago.
[04:48]<pz2>on the site I maintain 0.16% of the people use IE5
[04:49]<dv1>Yes removing the new lines and tabs fixes the gaps, thanks :)
[04:50]<dv1>Does anyone know what the pixel height of text that is 12pt would be?
[04:50]<pz2>about that much
[04:50]<dv1>Really?
[04:50]<dv1>I thought that was if I used font size 12px
[04:50]<dv1>:o
[04:51]<pz2>`css pt
[04:51]<pz2>`css font-size
[04:51]<rtfs>css font-size: http://www.w3.org/TR/CSS21/fonts.html#propdef-font-size
[04:52]<pz2>bleh
[04:52]<pz2>`css em
[04:52]<rtfs>css em: http://www.w3.org/TR/CSS21/syndata.html#em-width
[04:53]<dv1>Awesomeness
[04:54]<dv1>I've fixed up my navigation menu
[04:54]<dv1>Thanks for all the help guys
[04:54]<dv1>Now I'm off to bed... nearly 3am here :)
[04:54]<ggg0>bah - it's nearly four here :D
[04:55]<zr2nfmr2fn>i'm still lost, can someone help please ?
[04:55]<zr2nfmr2fn>i got the toolbar but its not very clear what to do
[04:55]<zr2nfmr2fn>it seems that some of the div are shifted to the right but I can't tell why
[04:55]<ggg0>i have no idea - i don't use IE :D
[04:56]<ggg0>IE should be forbidden
[04:58]<pz2>any browser that is as old as google should die
[04:58]<ggg0>:)
[04:58]<pz2>Google: 1998, IE5: 1999
[04:58]<pz2>IE6: 2001
[04:58]<ggg0>ehehe
[04:59]<zr2nfmr2fn>this sux
[05:00]<ggg0>rabeldable, isn't there a help function or something
[05:00]<zr2nfmr2fn>haha
[05:00]<ggg0>:)
[05:00]<zr2nfmr2fn>actually, I think i'll call bill
[05:00]<zr2nfmr2fn>you know... breath heavily and hang up!
[05:01]<grgj2jv>IE is the only major browser that didn't have a serious rewrite at some point after the emergence of CSS
[05:01]<znzjs>IE has never had a serious rewrite :|
[05:02]<znzjs>they just keep tacking on more and more to trident, adding to the abomination
[05:02]<grgj2jv>IE development has always been a bunch of hack jobs, and they care too much about not breaking stuff to bother with more fundamental fixes
[05:03]<grgj2jv>Still in IE7, every single CSS selector has bugs
[05:03]<znzjs>lovely
[05:03]<grgj2jv>http://www.webdevout.net/browser_support_css.php#css2selectors
[05:03]<grgj2jv>Hooray for *+html{}
[05:04]<pz2>IE is like that creature on Evolution
[05:04]<grgj2jv>Hooray for doctypes and comments being treated like elements
[05:04]<znzjs>what does "see corresponding property mean"?
[05:04]<ggg0>frb :D
[05:04]<pz2>Nanobot: I still wonder about the text-duplication bugs and disappearance bugs when related to floats
[05:05]<grgj2jv>Zeros: You mean like for "(background-color)" ?
[05:05]<grgj2jv>Zeros: For details, see the support for the background-color property
[05:06]<znzjs>ah yeah ok :)
[05:06]<pz2>some of the bugs I could understand.... 5 years ago
[05:10]<pfjfzd>hey guys. On my site here: http://www.dailyhealthguide.com/ - I need to remove the height: property on div.header-bg in my CSS. However if I do that, the formatting goes haywire, the positioning gets ruined, and things get really ugly, because it won't size to it's children. How can I make that div be the height of the tallest child?
[05:10]<ggg0>heh there is almost no difference between IE6 and IE7 - seems like they have just fixed a couple of bugs, like the min-height and stuff
[05:13]<ggg0>ehehe Micro$haft is going down :)
[05:14]<ggg0>if i had alot of money i would be buying Apple shares about now :)
[05:14]<ggg0>and i don't even use that crap :D
[05:17]<rzzdkyrr>Hi, how do I get my second sidebar here: http://www.kinggary.com/ to line up to the right of my first sidebar?
[05:17]<rzzdkyrr>right now, it's below the first sidebar and a bit to the right
[05:17]<rzzdkyrr>probably a margin error but when I set margin: 0; and padding: 0; then sidebar2 gets squishede
[05:22]<rzzdkyrr>anyone? :/
[05:29]<zrmgg>frb, ?
[05:30]<ggg0>everyone is away buying Apple shares
[05:30]<rddjguc>not me
[05:31]<ggg0>Apple is probably gonna tripple their value ibefore the year is over - well according to me :D
[05:32]<ggg0>everything that can go wrong with micro$hit goes wrong, but apple is actually doing some pretty neat stuff - not that i'm ever gonna buy a mac, i was just thinking about the stocks
[05:33]<rddjguc>where did you hear about this?
[05:34]<ggg0>i've always though like this, but the nail in the coffin was me reading about Leopard (or what it's called)
[05:34]<ggg0>the new OS from Apple
[05:34]<rddjguc>ahh
[05:34]<ggg0>Microsoft hasn't cathed up with OSX yet
[05:35]<ggg0>and they never will ;)
[05:35]<rddjguc>nope, not a chance
[05:35]<ggg0>everybody who has tried their luck at some MFC coding, know what's under the hood in windows - and it's not pretty :)
[05:36]<ggg0>to put it plainly - it's totally unfixable
[05:36]<ggg0>and m$ know this
[05:36]<ggg0>that's why they don't use money trying to fix it, it's just a waste
[05:37]<ggg0>they seem more interested in selling ads than in making an OS
[05:37]<rddjguc>well they should just start all over
[05:37]<rddjguc>from scratch
[05:37]<ggg0>they should years ago, now it's too late
[05:38]<pz2>Microsoft doesn't have to catch up with anyone
[05:38]<pz2>they still have a monopoly on desktop OS sales
[05:38]<rddjguc>true
[05:38]<pz2>You spend $500 for a PC, you get windows, you need to spend >$1000 to get a mac box
[05:38]<ggg0>ms has never been about technology, but about a business model
[05:39]<pz2>until the major computer manufacturers start selling alternatives, MS will be king
[05:39]<ggg0>they will soon - trust me on that :D
[05:39]<pz2>and unless Apple opens OSX to more hardware, or allows their shit to be cloned, they are doomed
[05:39]<grgj2jv>Oh but I read the weblog of some MS employee who was talking about how Bill Gates already left an amazing legacy of technological developments
[05:40]<ggg0>eheheh yeah like doubleclick :DDD
