[07:46]<mjgmnfnfzzzj>rue_house: if a line is red, it's broken.
[07:46]<zun_xjusn>with p beside it
[07:46]<zun_xjusn>YES WHY IS IT BROKEN!
[07:46]<zun_xjusn>see thats what I want ot know
[07:46]<mjgmnfnfzzzj>rue_house: you press enter on it, it'll give you the version information for it, and tell what it depends on, and what it conflicts with, and which of those are broken.
[07:46]<zun_xjusn>no it just gives me a version number that I click on and get more red line that dont tell me anything
[07:47]<zun_xjusn>and it uses the mouse interface, so ica nt even copy lines
[07:47]<zun_xjusn>and I'm so verry frustrated
[07:47]<wryvyrr>rue_house: try copy&paste with shift key held
[07:47]<mjgmnfnfzzzj>rue_house: so take a screenshot
[07:47]<pfuzmjyrr>is it possible to set up a windows box to serve up something like sysresccd such that this box can network boot it? the bios supports network boot. Sorry to ask such an obscure question but i want to try and solve this problem without having to wait till tomorrow to visit the store :/
[07:47]<zun_xjusn> --\ kdelibs-bin (= 4:3.3.2-6.4) (UNSATISFIED)
[07:47]<zun_xjusn>p 4:3.3.2-6.4
[07:47]<wryvyrr>rue_house: :)
[07:48]<zun_xjusn>dosn't tell me anything
[07:48]<zun_xjusn>(thanks)
[07:48]<wryvyrr>me neither :D
[07:48]<wryvyrr>np :)
[07:48]<zun_xjusn>ok, so I hit enter on the version number, and just get more of that
[07:48]<mjgmnfnfzzzj>rue_house: yes, you drill down, and see why they cannot be installed. In that case, just press + to install it.
[07:48]<zun_xjusn>I dont know if its problem is that it cant get the package at all, if it cant get the right version number, or if it conflicts with something
[07:49]<znfys>hey all, if im a typical home user, just to watch movies and chat and stuff, what version of debian should I install, Sarge r2??
[07:49]<mjgmnfnfzzzj>rue_house: if you see an available version in aptitude, the package exists.
[07:49]<zun_xjusn>and its showing things as unsatisfied when there are just suggested things it dosn't have
[07:49]<mjgmnfnfzzzj>relis: sarge, yes.
[07:49]<mjgmnfnfzzzj>rue_house: ignore the suggests.
[07:49]<znfys>so sarge > etch?
[07:49]<zun_xjusn>+ isn't working...
[07:49]<mjgmnfnfzzzj>(and the recommends) they do not matter.
[07:49]<zun_xjusn>but I have to drill down into 20 things to find out
[07:49]<mjgmnfnfzzzj>rue_house: + just marks them to be installed; so it may not fix the problem, but you should see that you've requested them to be installed.
[07:50]<mjgmnfnfzzzj>rue_house: sure, that's why mixing and matching stable and unstable is not something that you should be doing.
[07:50]<wryvyrr>ah
[07:50]<wryvyrr>thats why he has so low versions on kdelibs-bin
[07:50]<svzguggz>!bobbitt
[07:50]<mlcr>Remember Lorena Bobbitt? Remember what she did to her husband's woody? Well, when you install binary packages from different branches onto your woody, you get the same result. Same goes for Sarge.
[07:50]<zun_xjusn>but I have all the unstable packages that started this out
[07:50]<zun_xjusn>and its still doing it to me
[07:51]<wryvyrr>rue_house: if you want to use unstable distribution, it's best you do dist-upgrade IMHO
[07:51]<zun_xjusn>yea
[07:51]<zun_xjusn>I cant
[07:51]<wryvyrr>rue_house: otherwise youll have 2x as many problems as if you just used unstable
[07:51]<mjgmnfnfzzzj>rue_house: so start at the top of what you want to install, pressing + on everything that it conflicts with. It'll attempt to install it. Then drill down to the things that are still broken, and fix those.
[07:51]<zun_xjusn>I have postgresss database I cant upgrade, cause they will get destroyed, they always do
[07:51]<svzguggz>You don't want recommend unstable for somebody who isn't able to handle a simple frontend.
[07:52]<wryvyrr>streuner: oh, why not
[07:52]<zun_xjusn>:/
[07:52]<wryvyrr>streuner: I am unable to handle it either (which is why I don't use it)
[07:52]<mjgmnfnfzzzj>waiting: unless you're willing to support them yourself, don't recommend unstable
[07:52]<wryvyrr>dondelelcaro: support ^^
[07:52]<wryvyrr>dondelelcaro: BWAHAHAHAHAHA
[07:53]<wryvyrr>dondelelcaro: ;D that was funny
[07:53]<wryvyrr>ok, I am willing :)
[07:53]<zun_xjusn>streuner, and what do I do if their circular?
[07:53]<zun_xjusn>just keep drilling?
[07:53]<mjgmnfnfzzzj>rue_house: circular ones aren't a big deal, just ignore them and keep drilling down into the other dependencies.
[07:53]<zun_xjusn>kdelibs4 kdelibs-bin kdelibs4
[07:55]<mjgmnfnfzzzj>those depend upon eachother, so that's not a big deal.
[07:55]<mjgmnfnfzzzj>you have to make sure that you've got the exact version that you want to use installed.
[07:57]<wryvyrr>irc client for emacs? :D
[07:57]<wryvyrr>I knew how to save a file in it once .)
[07:59]<wryvyrr>E: Package emacs has no installation candidate
[07:59]<wryvyrr>:O wtf
[07:59]<zun_xjusn>apt-cache policy emacs
[07:59]<wryvyrr>rue_house: ??:))
[07:59]<zun_xjusn>I think itn'sll come up with nothing
[07:59]<drvnly2>waiting: i am using erc an irc client inside emacs
[08:00]<wryvyrr>nah ;) its one of those packages that have a version in the package _name_
[08:00]<wryvyrr>"emacs21"
[08:00]<zun_xjusn>ah, right
[08:00]<wryvyrr>I dislike that, actually
[08:03]<zun_xjusn>apt-cache search emacs
[08:03]<zun_xjusn>or if it commes down to it
[08:03]<zun_xjusn>apt-file search emacs|grep bin
[08:03]<zun_xjusn>should you never have to go that far...
[08:03]<wryvyrr>rue_house: thyvm :)
[08:03]<zun_xjusn>arg?
[08:03]<zun_xjusn>ah
[08:04]<zun_xjusn>:)
[08:04]<zun_xjusn>"tricks in the war against apt"
[08:04]<zun_xjusn>well, those are just battles, THIS is a war
[08:04]<mjgmnfnfzzzj>waiting: that's primarily because you can have different versions of emacs installed.
[08:05]<zun_xjusn>O
[08:05]<zun_xjusn>I'm losing, more and more red
[08:05]<ow0f0-0ff>I was wondering if there was something to interface freebsd ports and such with a command line apt
[08:05]<drvnly2>i was asking earlier about graphics in my sarge system with video card equivalent sis
[08:05]<ow0f0-0ff>with all apt options but performing the same stuff on freebsd
[08:05]<ow0f0-0ff>i mean just apt-get and apt-cache
[08:05]<drvnly2>hardbop200 told me about sisfb
[08:06]<drvnly2>i googled sisfb and found a web page for it i think it is a framebuffer module for sis video
[08:07]<drvnly2>anyway i just looked in /proc/modules i found some modules with sis in the name but no sis fb
[08:07]<drvnly2>this is just the sarge i installed off the repositiries
[08:07]<ow0f0-0ff>Should have a standard way to name modules.... driv_vga_sis_fb
[08:07]<drvnly2>so i guess i dont have sisfb
[08:08]<drvnly2>i added a kernel option in grub vga=0x31a
[08:09]<drvnly2>hardbop200 i think was telling me a better alternative is to add instead video=sisfb
[08:09]<wryvyrr>DaveLib: for VESA 2.0 compliant graphics cards, vesafb should produce a framebuffer with a resolution of 640x480 if that's enough for your purposes
[08:09]<drvnly2>but i guess not for me if i dont have it installed
[08:10]<drvnly2>is framebuffer the one for the console VT 's ?
[08:10]<wryvyrr>yeh
