[10:51]<rpvnzdnrvx>is he like supybot?
[10:51]<znvszznzdnz>igorok: you probably need to run dpkg-reconfigure console-data , but i don't know how to tell you to run it w/o a kb
[10:51]<znvszznzdnz>supybots are more maintained

[10:53]<dxrw1>sorry for the spelling

[10:53]<sy_vnax>ttru try "fuser -k -v /dev/dsp"
[10:53]<vvzu>mha13: how do i kill that?
[10:54]<vjgsjllas>hmmm, what package do I need to install to get nslookup?
[10:54]<sy_vnax>ttru you can kill with the fuser command "man fuser"
[10:54]<vvzu>Si_tech: ok, wjhat next?
[10:54]<sy_vnax>ttru what is using it?
[10:54]<vvzu>Si_tech: ok, what next? its killed. how do i load sound salsa?
[10:55]<vvzu>Si_tech: didnt say

[10:56]<vvzu>Si_tech: no need, sound is back
[10:56]<dxrw1>ttru: run the /etc/init.d/alsa reload
[10:56]<vvzu>mha13: no need, sound is back! fuser -k -v /dev/dsp fixed it
[10:56]<dxrw1>Si_tech:alsaconf is bas idea (he can change stuff by that)
[10:56]<vjgsjllas>hmmm, I installed the debian package for colinux, running it, I can't get ping to resolve domain names.... any clue how?
[10:58]<dxrw1> jetscreamer:i have a pacge installed but kpackge/rpm says it is not installed..
[10:59]<znvszznzdnz>no idea
[10:59]<lnvnzs>mha13: uh, what did I miss? why are you talking about rpm?
[10:59]<dxrw1>peterS:hello ..
[11:00]<dxrw1>peterS:i'm try to use x3330 (lexmark printer) to use i need a driver that is in rpm form
[11:01]<lnvnzs>mha13: two best bets are to convert to .deb form using 'alien', and install it that way, or to simply unpack it and find the file you need and stuff it into the right place manually
[11:01]<dxrw1>peterS:when i do alien -i .. it don't say any errors but the pacage don't work so i try rpm -i
[11:01]<gjcnnq_lrlvjl>"Booting the installation system directly from a hard disk is another option for many architectures. This will require some other operating system to load the installer onto the hard disk." <-- from the install manual... Is there any more information on how to do this somewhere?
[11:01]<dxrw1>peterS:it says miising files (dependencies)
[11:01]<lnvnzs>alien isn't smart enough to account for differences in how cups files are installed on different OSes, so it may be that you have to figure it out manually and copy the files around manually
[11:01]<vjgsjllas>nm, got it
[11:02]<dxrw1>peterS:how do i unpack an rpm ?
[11:02]<lnvnzs>mha13: I'd use rpm2cpio and then unpack the cpio file with ... I forget, cpio -i or something
[11:05]<dxrw1>peterS:when i run it it printed my the content of the rpm ..
[11:05]<dxrw1>and the stuck the terminal
[11:05]<rgmrfue>hi peeps
[11:05]<rgmrfue>question - if i were to install the base system from a debian minimal cd, would I be able to ssh into the box to do the rest?
[11:06]<ugsvr2fn>Andaluz: If you apt-get install ssh; after you're done installing the base system.
[11:06]<rgmrfue>cool
[11:06]<rgmrfue>thanks =)
[11:06]<lnvnzs>mha13: figure out how to use cpio, then, I guess
[11:06]<afygvsgnv>hey guys, I'm making my way back to the debian world, I did get VMware Workstation 5.0 up and running on ubuntu, breezy, then tested ubuntu's latest dapper, with VMware Workstation 5.5, I still didn't get my wireless how I wanted, etc.. the reasons why I had chose ubuntu for the while, was because of its hardware detection.. how easy would it to get support for my AMD AThlon XP 2000+ , with a nvida agp, and Acer Aspire 3610 wi
[11:06]<afygvsgnv>supported
[11:07]<afygvsgnv>also. I"m tired of always editing services in ubuntu, and run levels, just to make it fast. and I want to either do a ReiserFS with debian install or xfs, that should go right correct?
[11:07]<rrsv>aspire 3610 wi...then you got cut off
[11:07]<rrsv>[maybe load the splitlines.pl script if you're using irssi]
[11:07]<afygvsgnv>hey cast
[11:08]<afygvsgnv>i'm going to College for Systems Engineering, Networks, Software Programming etc.. I believe I should stick to debian ,especially since they are not constaly updating the distro, etc and I want to design my own and custom how I want, and I did like that about debian , just takes the patience, and 1 thing I found, the network speed right off the bat for lan , is amazing
[11:08]<rrsv>the cpu will go fine, just use the k7 kernel-image, and the video is also fine, just grab nvidia.com drivers
[11:09]<afygvsgnv>also I was reading how Etch should be out in December, thats cool, however could I do a debian install, I do have the binary cd, and then just change the repositories, to the testing/unstable,
[11:09]<_txodas>hey
[11:09]<_txodas>anybody around?
[11:09]<rrsv>you could, but why not just grab the debian testing netinst cd?
[11:09]<ugsvr2fn>clintsnet: You can just do an etch install now. Download the etch net install disc.
[11:09]<ugsvr2fn>!tell clintsnet about d-i
[11:09]<_txodas>erm
[11:09]<afygvsgnv>oh coo cast, can I partner up with you, on levels of my own and wht I want to program with my books I have been reading and intelligence on things. .I want to program Linux A.I. and i Know I will do it
