[17:45]<svnw>blondie: i was just wondering if it was more than 10
[17:45]<dxrw1>blondie:at least 104
[17:45]<nufnw>dn4, hehe, sorry, should have warned you earlier :)
[17:45]<nufnw>dn4, at least you know that it's the right device
[17:45]<mrfuyrvnfj>Greetings
[17:45]<rsr>mha13: unless it's a laptop keybard
[17:45]<2fjgmyn>mha13: I have keyboards with 102 keys :P
[17:45]<svnw>mha13: if you just want to affect which buttons generate which button event, you want xmodmap, if you want to assign commands to some of the buttons use xbindkeys
[17:45]<vjzax|svupp>I have keyboards with 547 keys
[17:45]<rsr>mha13: xev can be helpful too
[17:46]<mg9>Eulex, any idea why /dev/dsp shows nothing under audacity?
[17:46]<vjzax>547... thousand keys
[17:46]<dxrw1>10x to all
[17:46]<svnw>dn4: do you use alsa? do you have snd-pcm-oss?
[17:47]<svnw>i try to stay between 11x and 15x most of the time
[17:47]<nufnw>dn4, eh, what do you mean?
[17:47]<mrfuyrvnfj>I have my mp3's and movies on a NTFS partition I had when I had Windows XP. I want to keep them in that partition, and I would like to listen/view them in Linux. I can access the partition and user root can playback the mp3, but my regular user can't. I tried chowning chmodding them, but I get an error: "Operation not permitted". Any ideas?
[17:47]<2fjgmyn>108... that can't be right
[17:47]<rsr>Maquiavelo: /msg dpkg ntfs
[17:48]<drrr>what is wrong with this syntax - for mp3 in * do; lame -b 32 -m mo $mp3 $mp3.2.mp3; done;
[17:48]<svnw>Maquiavelo: you want use the uid/gid/umask options to mount, man mount
[17:48]<mg9>I use Alsa
[17:48]<2fjgmyn>yang: do filenames have spaces in?
[17:48]<svnw>yang: you want for mp3 in * ; do lame...
[17:48]<mg9>the ca0106 driver
[17:48]<2fjgmyn>and that
[17:48]<svnw>dn4: make sure snd-pcm-oss is loaded
[17:49]<mrfuyrvnfj>stew, The user uid ?
[17:49]<svnw>Maquiavelo: yes
[17:49]<mrfuyrvnfj>Ok
[17:49]<svnw>Maquiavelo: man mount, look up those three options
[17:49]<drrr>blondie: yes, they have spaces
[17:49]<mrfuyrvnfj>I kno whow, thank you.
[17:49]<mrfuyrvnfj>know how*
[17:50]<vjddd>hello
[17:50]<2fjgmyn>yang: it won't work then
[17:50]<nafylsnz>why the hell does gksu depend on libgnomevfs2-0 on sid o.O
[17:50]<2fjgmyn>yang: bash will think they're seperate files
[17:50]<svnw>yang: if htey ahve spaces, "for mp3 in *" isn't going to work. you'll want something like "find -name \*.wav | while read mp3 ; do lame..." instead
[17:51]<drrr>stew: thanks
[17:52]<svnw>yang: and if these are .wavs you proabably want something like ${mp3%wav}mp3 instead of $mp3.2.mp3, which would turn foo.wav into foo.mp3 instead of foo.wav.2.mp3
[17:53]<drrr>they aren´t wavs they are mp3 files
[17:53]<drrr>seems this also doesn´t solve it - find -name \*.mp3 | while read mp3 ;do lame -b 32 -m mo $mp3 $mp3.2.mp3; done;
[17:54]<2fjgmyn>yang: you might be able to use xargs or find -exec
[17:54]<svnw>yang: does "find -name \*.mp3" list the files you expect to operate on, one per line?
[17:54]<mg9>stew, snd-pcm-oss is loaded, but I still don't get to capture anything
[17:54]<mrfuyrvnfj>Can someone recommend a good movie player ?
[17:54]<trssu>ööt
[17:55]<drrr>stew: yes it lists them
[17:55]<dxrw1>Maquiavelo:mplayer ,xine ..
[17:55]<mrfuyrvnfj>Thanks
[17:55]<svnw>yang: oh, you need to replace $mp3 and $mp3.2.mp3 with "$mp3" and "$mp3.2.mp3"
[17:56]<drrr>ok thanks a lot
[17:56]<drysxy>how do i tell if a certain dvd recorder is supported with dvdrecord? i cant seem to get to its webpage at arklinux.org...its just blank
[17:57]<mrfuyrvnfj>That's weird, if I aptitude install mplayer, aptitude removes gdm, gconf and other applications, and doesn't install mplayer
[17:58]<zggg>Bonjour !
[17:58]<mrfuyrvnfj>Bonjour
[17:58]<drysxy>Maquiavelo: does apt-get -f install fix it?
[17:58]<trffu>whoo. I got it all up and running. :)
[17:59]<mrfuyrvnfj>Nope, I don't know if mplayer is available on etch because I can't find it with search
[17:59]<dxrw1>Maquiavelo:afaik mplayer is not in the mirros ..
[17:59]<zggg>Maquiavelo: c'est un chan en Anglais ?
[17:59]<trffu>what would you guys suggest for connecting to say msn messenger on debian?
[17:59]<mg9>maybe this updated version of the alsa drivers will help out
[17:59]<mrfuyrvnfj>rene, Oui, debian-fr c'est le francais chan
[17:59]<mg9>my soundcard is fairly new and needs more support
[17:59]<dxrw1>Maquiavelo:you need to biuld from source
[17:59]<mrfuyrvnfj>figured
[17:59]<zggg>Maquiavelo: Thank's
[17:59]<mrfuyrvnfj>de rien
[18:00]<dxrw1>Maquiavelo:try xine .. it prety good also

[18:00]<zggg>Maquiavelo: so I go on #debian-fr :)
[18:00]<mrfuyrvnfj>how does the whole plugin mess work with xine?
[18:00]<mrfuyrvnfj>I have a bunch of porn... errr instructional videos, in different formats, like divx, xvid, etc.
[18:00]<dxrw1>Maquiavelo:plugins ? ..
[18:01]<dxrw1>Maquiavelo:oo codecs ..
[18:01]<mrfuyrvnfj>codecs :P
[18:01]<dxrw1>just drop them into /usr/lib/codec
[18:01]<mrfuyrvnfj>I see, 0-4
[18:01]<mrfuyrvnfj>err 10-4
[18:02]<dxrw1>Maquiavelo:but check it in the pacage .. (maybe they changed the the path)

[18:06]<gdrn_frmd>Hi!
[18:06]<gdrn_frmd>how do I view/read/write windows directories from samba?
[18:07]<pznrj_>hello, everybody, I've just did a stupid error, and deleted /var/lib/*. I cannot reinstall the server, how can i reinstall apt-get and dpkg so I can try to reinstall everythong that had files in /var/lib ?
[18:07]<mrfuyrvnfj>Anyone knows how to remap the hotkey to killing the X server? (shift + backspace) ?
[18:07]<gdrn_frmd>i read the manpages and i'm still lost :(
[18:07]<gdrn_frmd>cast what else is there?
[18:08]<rrsv>i'm not sure to be honest, i get by with scp and sftp
[18:08]<gdrn_frmd>i want to run subversion on debian but use xp pro as my repository, it has high speed disks
[18:09]<rrsv>how fasts the network though?
[18:09]<gdrn_frmd>100base -T
[18:09]<gdrn_frmd>there is no one here to help me with samba :(
[18:10]<rrsv>so is that going to bottle neck remote disk access to such an extent that local is faster?
[18:10]<gdrn_frmd>don't know
[18:10]<gdrn_frmd>i
[18:10]<gdrn_frmd>but if I can get it working i'll find out
