[22:12]<gg2rfyg9>asg: thanks for the info about debian snapshots.
[22:12]<rsr>Tallu: then I don't know, I've never seen that behavior with one X program and all others being fine.
[22:12]<rsr>zebalin4: you're welcome
[22:12]<rsr>Tallu: the only other thing I can suggest is that you check the permissions on ~/.firefox and ~/.mozilla-firefox. Shouldn't matter but you never know.
[22:12]<trffu>asg: everythin else starts just fine, yeah.. i tried some games, even they start
[22:13]<rsr>Tallu: since you are running Gnome (and who knows what they do these days) you might try asking their support channels (/msg dpkg #gnome)
[22:14]<trffu>asg: they dont exist
[22:14]<nzyap>i want to move a bunch of mp3s to my treo. jpilot seems to move datebook, contacts, todos and memo pad data to the palm.
[22:14]<nzyap>what should i use to move mp3s?
[22:14]<trffu>Yeah I'll ask them, thanks a lot for your time, asg :)
[22:14]<rsr>Tallu: not here but the factoid tells you where they do.
[22:14]<rsr>Tallu: one other thing, does 'alias | grep firefox' print anything?
[22:14]<nzyap>(pretending they are appointments seems like it might be a long way around)
[22:15]<trffu>asg: nothing
[22:16]<rsr>Tallu: okay, then I'm out of ideas I'm afraid. Sorry.
[22:16]<trffu>Yeah its ok, i'll go ask about in the gnome channel
[22:16]<trffu>asg: thanks again, though. much appreciated. :)
[22:16]<rsr>Tallu: if you find out what's wrong, I'd be interested in the solution.
[22:17]<trffu>asg: I'll be sure to let you know :)
[22:17]<rsr>Tallu: thanks, and good luck
[22:18]<gjcnnq_lrlvjl>my xserver won`t start. /dev/input/mouse can not be found. I think I must not have the right mod loaded for a ps2 mouse? What mod needs to be loaded?
[22:19]<zjdd>folks, I got a xen dom0 instance running on etch. Can someone tell me
[22:19]<zjdd>why I need a patched version of debian to run a domU? I thought the
[22:19]<zjdd>idea was that pretty much any linux could be a guest.
[22:21]<rsr>roym: ##xen would be able to tell you
[22:23]<zjdd>asg: thanks - I just got a response from ##xen.
[22:24]<rsr>roym: you're welcome
[22:29]<myyf2nzvavwjzc>where is the bestplace to get help setting up my hp photosmart printer ?
[22:29]<rsr>diilbertAtWork: linuxprinting.org and/or cups.org
[22:30]<sdgvrww>i know this is stupid i setup a email/web/ftp server on my desktop server im just wondering what other services can you run in linux?
[22:30]<rsr>syntaxx: proxies, routing daemons, whatever you wish.
[22:32]<sdgvrww>asg, i see
[22:34]<rsr>syntaxx: the last time we upgraded our perimeter DNS servers, I hosted them on my laptop for the time of the upgrade. A desktop is not different from a server in Unixland, only the amount of horsepower available from the hardware.
[22:36]<kgjzzyn>'lo, i'm trying to upgrade the kernel of my etch box to
[22:36]<kgjzzyn>... stupid enter
[22:37]<kgjzzyn>the sid kernel 2.6.17, but booting fails with a oops/panic/stack trace: http://tom.ti.thrijswijk.nl/~krh/kernel/2.6.17.txt
[22:37]<sdgvrww>asg, well im just a student learning and studying stuff about linux so when i enter the real world ill be able to accomplish any of those linux servers though
[22:37]<rsr>Knorrie: and you are doing this why?
[22:38]<kgjzzyn>asg: because of the security fixes?
[22:38]<rsr>syntaxx: the good thing is that practically anything you will encounter in the real world can be run on a laptop for testing purposes (barring things like RAID, Fiber Channel, etc.)
[22:39]<rsr>Knorrie: Debian backports security fixes to its stable versions and even etch now (provided you haven't deleted the security sources for /etc/apt/sources.list)
[22:39]<sdgvrww>asg, i see thanks for the info
[22:40]<rsr>syntaxx: you're welcome
[22:41]<kgjzzyn>asg: oh? i thought testing had no security support...
[22:41]<rsr>Knorrie: it has since sarge went stable.
[22:41]<kgjzzyn>asg: 2.6.16-2-686 from testing boots fine
[22:41]<rsr>Knorrie: then again, if you were worried about security, you wouldn't be running a beta version of an OS would you.
[22:42]<frdl__>is installing debian testing posible with minimall install iso because http://www.us.debian.org/devel/debian-installer/News/2006/20060716
[22:42]<trffu>asg: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=246313#c12
[22:42]<rsr>Knorrie: /msg dpkg testing security
[22:42]<trffu>asg: this solved it :)
[22:43]<kgjzzyn>asg: true, it's not a public box with user accounts etc, a test-machine on which things can go wrong
[22:43]<rsr>Tallu: ah, interesting
[22:43]<rsr>Tallu: thanks
[22:43]<kgjzzyn>asg: but i'll use the latest 2.6.16 from testing, thanks
[22:43]<rsr>Knorrie: you're welcome
[22:44]<trffu>asg: and thank you.. a lot :)
[22:45]<rsr>Tallu: :)
[22:46]<drwwfn> I want to get the Flashmovie from this site locally mirrored. How can this be done? http://skoda-tour.de/index.php?seq_id=seq_skoda_fabia_extra&session_id=
[22:46]<rsr>maxxle: wget
[22:46]<drwwfn>asg: I don't know the exact URL for wgeting it. It is seems to be some java stuff
[22:47]<rsr>maxxle: well, you may have to use Perl's WWW::Mechanize module to write a web screen scraping utility if wget and/or curl are not extensible enough.
[22:48]<ygww>it's nice to see irc isn't dying
[22:48]<ygww>:)
[22:48]<rsr>maxxle: you could also ask the webmaster of that site if she will provide an easier to download mirror mechanism.
[22:48]<frdl__> /msg dpkg testing securit
[22:48]<kgjzzyn>asg: it's running linux-image-2.6-686 (2.6.16+0.2) now :)
[22:48]<rsr>inwx: still alive and kicking
[22:48]<rsr>Knorrie: good
[22:48]<rsr>Knorrie: :)
[22:48]<ygww>haha lol
[22:48]<drwwfn>asg: I think skoda won't listen to me :)
[22:48]<svnw>!kick asg
[22:49]<rsr>stew: for some odd reason, I'm still here ;)
[22:49]<svzguggz>haha
[22:49]<yvaxy>maxxle: wget http://skoda-tour.de/flash/player.swf lazy guy
[22:49]<yvaxy>maxxle: Look in the source code of that page !
[22:50]<rsr>itchi: it's still considered considerate that one ask the site owner if mirroring via automated tools is okay.
[22:50]<ygww>cya
[22:50]<yvaxy>asg: Yup right ;-)
[22:50]<_nzya2>hi all I I have an issue about crontab. I edited crontab, ran crontab /etc/crontab, but the tasks still don't run
[22:51]<drwwfn>itchi: This is not the movie i think. I want to get the whole movie
[22:52]<yvaxy>maxxle: Like i have already tell :-)
[22:52]<rsr>stew: did you get the link I sent you in -ot?
[22:53]<svnw>asg: oh, just saw it, yeah, i found it a little while after asking, but thanks
[22:53]<rsr>stew: ah, cool
[22:53]<drwwfn>itchi: Sorry... not trained in reading javascript
[22:54]<yvaxy>maxxle: Do an search in that file lol ;-)
[22:56]<cm2nzmrm>how to make screen width more flexible, i want to look mysql table (select * from blah)
[22:57]<cm2nzmrm>how to control the screen width?

[23:01]<jnppzj>hi

[23:01]<jnppzj>what line do i need to put in the sources.list for the latest stable apps, it was deb http://ftp.us.debian.org/debian/ oldstable main non-free contrib
[23:01]<yvaxy>maxxle: Oh yee, if you want to take it easy, most files are donwloaded on the computer, if this give you a hint ;-)
