[00:00]<kgrw_>it's off-topic
[00:00]<rj22yna2>TFKyle: so does epiphany...
[00:00]<sdc>seren: when i use quse, it seems like it's not finding every port that might be able to use the flag.. any ideas?
[00:00]<ddyyccnnwq>Fieldy: no, use a dedicated channel :D
[00:00]<fdnfmd>Knaw_: i am a channel operator here. i will decide when to be bossy, and what is offtopic or not. if you have a complaint about me, feel free to talk to #gentoo-ops
[00:00]<sdc>seren: for example, use flag 'bash-completion' is available in vim-core but it's not showing that (my portage tree is updated daily btw)
[00:00]<sgzgg>smk: try having it regenerate ebuild cache or w/e run q to see how
[00:01]<ddyyccnnwq>Knaw_: ##flamewars
[00:01]<xjffjwsjuf>boosi, u didnt give the user a login shell i.e bash have a look @ http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/handbook/handbook-x86.xml?part=1&chap=11
[00:01]<ddyyccnnwq>we shall continue :D
[00:01]<kgrw_>mmm, vimtutor was my best shot :)
[00:01]<tfkdfn>wine++ btw, got diablo II running in it
[00:01]<ddyyccnnwq>Knaw_: well i don't use features i have no use for. and ever heard of ^K and ^U in nano? :)
[00:02]<sdc>seren: updated my ebuild + metadata cache and it's still not finding it
[00:02]<sgzgg>smk: u use the q command to update ebuilds?
[00:02]<sdc>seren: yes, q -r and q -m
[00:02]<zjznztt>boosi, useradd username -m -G users,wheel,audio,video,portage -s /bin/bash
[00:02]<zjznztt>boosi, then passwd username
[00:03]<wdxvnv>I am wondering if I can compile gentoo on a really powerful machine and then copy the stuff over the Hard drive for workstation use?
[00:03]<sjugmsjfmynz>wmhtet: you may be better of looking at distcc
[00:03]<zjznztt>wmhtet, you can build a whole system in a chroot on a fast box
[00:03]<sxrmrgrg>how do i determine which device my mouse is connected to?
[00:03]<dja|xjdn>Knaw_: pack it in
[00:03]<wdxvnv>soundsoldier can you give me a link?
[00:03]<izit>bah hollowsoul :-/ Failed to emerge
[00:03]<zjznztt>wmhtet, or use distcc to help the slow box compile
[00:03]<sdc>wmhtet: you'd need to make sure to not use -march in your CFLAGS unless you were on the same type of processor
[00:03]<2jjsy>roger55: yes I did that, and then password does not accept.
[00:03]<zjznztt>? distcc guide
[00:03]<annvns>http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/distcc.xml
[00:03]<rwjpp>boosi, can you su to that user?
[00:04]<ryrvjf>Hi. I want to see why celestia segfaults when I run it. So I did USE="debug" emerge celestia. However, gdb still says Starting program: /usr/bin/celestia(no debugging symbols found). What else do I need to do to compile celestia with debugging information?
[00:04]<kgrw_>doc|home: i'm not even talking
[00:04]<sgzgg>smk: idk then
[00:04]<xjffjwsjuf>IrIT, copy the error to pastebin.com & give us a link to it plz
[00:04]<asvpyfjv>How do I get my IPW2200 wireless card to work with the minimal install CD?
[00:04]<zjznztt>boosi, does the user have a home directory?
[00:04]<tfkdfn>wmhtet: as long as you don't use anything that will restrct it in your CFLAGS (like -march, use -mtune instead for this puprose) you should be able to (though I'd go with creating bin packages on the faster machine than merging the binpackages on the older one)
[00:04]<rj22yna2>giavol: what CFLAGS are you using?
[00:04]<wdxvnv>ok, thx, guys, how can I try chroot ? any links? roger55 ?
[00:04]<zjznztt>cstPilot, does the device exist in ifconfig -a or iwconfig ?
[00:04]<2jjsy>roger55: yes it does, i loged in as root and view the home dir for snow
[00:04]<2jjsy>snow is the user
[00:04]<asvpyfjv>roger55: yes
[00:05]<rwjpp>boosi, as root, can you run "su snow -"
[00:05]<ryrvjf>RobbieAB, CFLAGS="-march=pentium-m -O3 -pipe -fomit-frame-pointer"
[00:05]<asvpyfjv>roger55: in ifconfig
[00:05]<wdxvnv>I am not very good with compile it yourself, I have been living with precompile and X-windows world,
[00:05]<zjznztt>wmhtet, just mkdir somedir , extract a stage in somedir, mount -t proc proc somedir/proc , chroot somedir/ /bin/bash
[00:05]<asvpyfjv>not in iwconfig
[00:05]<rj22yna2>giavol: remove -fomit-frame-pointer
[00:05]<zjznztt>cstPilot, as wlan0 ?
[00:05]<asvpyfjv>roger55: eth1
[00:05]<rj22yna2>giavol: You could also try pulling -O3 down to -O2...
[00:06]<ddyyccnnwq>can i get an estimated time for emerge -u world?
[00:06]<rgrkyd>anjuta and kdevelop crash on my gentoo box, even though they are not in the test tree. I'll appreciate any hints on how to solve the problem.
[00:06]<vzyppym_hugvnz>mmiikkee12: use genlop for that
[00:06]<zjznztt>cstPilot, iwconfig wlan0 mode manages essid youressid
[00:06]<zjznztt>cstPilot, er eth1/wlan0
[00:06]<wdxvnv>Ok, thx roger55 TFKyle smk jeeves soundsoldier
[00:06]<ryrvjf>RobbieAB, Aaaaah, I remember now I saw this in that fomit-frame-pointer disables debugging in the gcc manual. I had totally forgotten about the CFLAGS
[00:06]<ddyyccnnwq>Triffid_Hunter: what package is that in?
[00:06]<zjznztt>grr
[00:06]<zjznztt>cstPilot, iwconfig eth1 mode managed essid youressid
[00:06]<vzyppym_hugvnz>mmiikkee12: genlop
[00:06]<kgrw_>wmhtet: since you are on x86, you could use a binhost and still use precompiled stuff
[00:06]<ddyyccnnwq>hmm, genlop maybe? :P
[00:06]<sgzgg>qlop
[00:06]<xjffjwsjuf>mmiikkee12, can really make an estimate ram i/o bottlenecks cpu etc. u get to learn the big compiles though
[00:06]<zjznztt>cstPilot, or ask in #gentoo-laptop
[00:07]<izit>http://pastebin.com/727227
[00:07]<ryrvjf>RobbieAB, How can I compile only a single package with a different CFlags?
[00:07]<sgzgg>later all
[00:07]<fdnfmd>bye seren
[00:07]<sgzgg>giavol: CFLAGS="foo foo foo foo" emerge package
[00:07]<ddyyccnnwq>hollowsoul: i just want to know if i have enough time to upgrade my system atm
[00:07]<asvpyfjv>roger55: SET failed on device eth1 ; Operation not supported.
[00:07]<sgzgg>giavol: thats not perminent though
[00:07]<tfkdfn>anaKim: could you be more specific when you say crash? (what is outputted if you run it on a console, and maybe get a backtrace if you know how/have stuff built with debugging info)
[00:07]<ryrvjf>RobbieAB, seren: thank you a lot for the hints.
[00:08]<tfkdfn>s/it/them/
[00:08]<zjznztt>cstPilot, net-setup eth1
[00:08]<zjznztt>cstPilot, does that work?
[00:08]<ryrvjf>seren, : That's what I want ;-) I want to keep my cflags as they are, and only try a single package with different ones.
[00:09]<zjznztt>cstPilot, or are eth0 and eth1 a firewire and ethernet interface and you didn't modprobe the module for the wireless?
[00:09]<2jjsy>roger55: i add the user, set passwd, passwd updated, login user, pass not accepting, user a home dir, check /etc/passwd and user listed, and still does not work. is there an option which could be disabling login?
[00:09]<wjznm>i have the realtek network driver buld in, but after restasrt, i cannot find my interface under ifconfig -a
[00:09]<zjznztt>boosi, the shell for the user
[00:10]<wdxvnv>thx Knaw_
[00:10]<asvpyfjv>roger55: if they follow the same as on my gentoo installs eth0 is my broadcomm 10/100 and eth1 is the ipw2200
[00:10]<izit>hollowsoul -> http://pastebin.com/727227 Dont know if you saw the link
[00:10]<zjznztt>xored, then you picked the wrong option, didn't load the module or booted the old kernel
[00:10]<2jjsy>roger55: shell for user is /bin/bash
[00:10]<zjznztt>cstPilot, check with 'lsmod'
[00:10]<kgrw_>wmhtet: i cross compile on my x86 for an apple laptop, and i wouldn't sneeze at somebody else doing it for me :)
[00:10]<xjffjwsjuf>IrIT, i did can u /join #hollowsoul
[00:10]<izit>sure
[00:10]<asvpyfjv>roger55: I did. ipw2200 and ieee80211 are listed
[00:11]<zjznztt>cstPilot, then I don't know, try #gentoo-laptop or someone who has such a card
[00:11]<zjznztt>boosi, what command did you use to create the user?
