[06:36]<znpyzys>juckes: but building an entire system with a commandline option.. he might as well just change it in make.conf
[06:36]<wxjjls2j2>What does this mean, when I was emerging blackdown-jdk? No JAVA_HOME available! Please set your Java Virtual Machine
[06:36]<wxjjls2j2>THIS SYSTEM VM IS NOT SUFFICIENT, REQUIRED BINARIES WERE NOT FOUND
[06:36]<mrrrryj>Isky: what about kavi2vcd?
[06:36]<iscd>dangaio: I haven't tried that one.
[06:36]<znpyzys>ElvenStar: hrm... and this failed after an emerge -e system?
[06:36]<iscd>dangaio: kde stuff.. probably works fine, probably easier, too
[06:37]<mrrrryj>Ok, I will try to work with this. Thanks for the help Isky.
[06:37]<awnsjdn-jq000>ElvenStar, did the MP have power management features on it? I dont remember that feature...
[06:37]<]jlggvrcr[>what should I put on livecd's xorg.conf? especially device section
[06:37]<iscd>dangaio: I quit using vcd a while ago, I have dvd players and burners all over the house.
[06:37]<gfvggsvzz>Zefiris> failed at glibc so on commandline i used features="-test" emerge glibc and it worked but everything after that now is borked
[06:38]<gfvggsvzz>Awesome-o2000> power-now
[06:38]<auacns>Zefiris: who said anything about building the entire system - run the command on one package, if it compiles then go back to make.conf and find the problem ...
[06:38]<znpyzys>juckes: but its failing on configure.. so that means *major* system failure
[06:38]<znpyzys>juckes: namely a system sanity check
[06:38]<mrrrryj>Isky: the problem that I have a Phillips Media/DVD player. My friend messed up the encoding on the AVI files and they don't play. So I am forced to watch them on the PC or make vcd.
[06:38]<znpyzys>ElvenStar: bad bad idea
[06:39]<znpyzys>ElvenStar: rebuild glibc
[06:39]<znpyzys>if you can
[06:39]<iscd>dangaio: can't re-encode to mpeg2?
[06:39]<gfvggsvzz>k building
[06:39]<2fjrrsyn>Anybody here know how to use Scribus?
[06:39]<znpyzys>ElvenStar: it might be possible that your cflags where breaking glibc
[06:39]<mrrrryj>Isky: I don't know how.
[06:39]<znpyzys>and by bypassing the tests, you made a big problem
[06:40]<znpyzys>ElvenStar: not a bright idea, i hope you learn from it
[06:40]<aaolwd>for a s3 savage 4 is savage or s3 a better VIDEO_CARDS="" for xorg-x11 ??
[06:40]<iscd>dangaio: hrm. avidemux, perhaps. It's an editing and encoding tool. I don't know how easy it is to use, though.
[06:41]<xfyg2gzdrg>Peace all.
[06:41]<znpyzys>lates
[06:41]<auacns>Zefiris: and the sanity check is gcc failing to <snip> and the most common cause of that is faulty CFLAGS - so eliminate that possibily first by doing CFLAGS="" etc etc etc
[06:41]<znpyzys>juckes: but its a failure to generate executables
[06:42]<znpyzys>juckes: you saw the error tight?
[06:42]<iscd>I side with juckes. Blow out the cflags, and try again.
[06:42]<gfvggsvzz>Zefiris> recompiling glibc "checking size of long double... configure: error: cannot compute sizeof (long double), 77
[06:42]<gfvggsvzz>"
[06:42]<znpyzys>juckes: meh.. ill take your word for it
[06:42]<znpyzys>juckes: i think its dirty built gcc and glibc
[06:43]<znpyzys>juckes: but you feel free to take over for me
[06:43]<iscd>Zefiris: I think you're right, but how's he gonna get a clean one in if gcc is fscked? clearing the cflags might work. I managed it once. Other than that, I've also overlayed a stage 3 on top of my system to recoved a really borked gcc build.
[06:43]<iscd>recover
[06:44]<auacns>Zefiris: well it might be - but just how is glibc going to get rebuilt if gcc doesn't work ?
[06:45]<znpyzys>Isky: i think the idea is to unpack a rescue compiler... (ie stage1) in order to rebuild what he needs with a sane compiler/glibc
[06:45]<znpyzys>juckes: ^^
[06:45]<iscd>Zefiris: Yeah.. I needed a working system faster than that.
[06:45]<znpyzys>it will however break everything else untill its all rebuilt
[06:45]<znpyzys>:/
[06:46]<gfvggsvzz>Zefiris> juckes > i can grab a package built gcc from another system i have here
[06:46]<iscd>oh, ffs. not tonight. SHA256 verification failing on digest-sandbox, WAY different, tells me to sync. I JUST synced.
[06:46]<znpyzys>ElvenStar: as long as its a system with the same cflags or lower
[06:46]<znpyzys>Isky: heheh.. i always get around that with dirty ebuild tricks
[06:46]<gfvggsvzz>yep
[06:47]<znpyzys>Isky: only because im insane
[06:47]<iscd>Zefiris: I need to update portage.
[06:47]<znpyzys>Isky: aye.. but would that fix your tree?
[06:47]<iscd>Zefiris: don't feel like tricking it, but I haven't updated world in like, 6 months, so I need to.
[06:47]<iscd>Zefiris: nahh. that's what I'm trying to emerge -u when I get the error. heh
[06:47]<rcn2r2j>hi, all. i got my new system, GENTOO!!
[06:47]<znpyzys>Isky: ... uh yeah
[06:47]<gfvggsvzz>how can i mount a partition on another system via ssh ?
[06:48]<znpyzys>Isky: try a emerge -uDNav world
[06:48]<iscd>Zefiris: just what I was thinking. except.. god, this will take years. lol
[06:48]<znpyzys>ElvenStar: there is such a thing as shfs...
[06:48]<znpyzys>Isky: do it before you sleep, and let it go
[06:48]<gfvggsvzz>Zefiris> is it quick and easy ?
[06:48]<iscd>Zefiris: about 80 blockers. lol
[06:49]<znpyzys>ElvenStar: depends.. it requires a module to be loaded
[06:49]<znpyzys>Isky: im sure it has a common factor.. what would that be?
[06:49]<znpyzys>Isky: if you dont know.. paste it and im sure i can identify it
[06:49]<iscd>Zefiris: kde.
[06:49]<2fjrrsyn>Isky: do you want the file-system on the other system to appear as if it part of the local machine?
[06:49]<znpyzys>Isky: hehehe evil
[06:49]<iscd>bloggsie: umm.. I wasn't talking about network shares.
[06:49]<znpyzys>bloggsie: you mean to speak to ElvenStar
[06:50]<iscd>Zefiris: yeeah, well.. I'll just rip the little bastard out, and put it back in later.
[06:50]<gfvggsvzz>bloggsie> yes
[06:50]<znpyzys>Isky: KDE is evil anyways
[06:50]<iscd>Zefiris: I have lots of time, and other wms
[06:50]<znpyzys>:D
[06:50]<znpyzys>Isky: then what are you complaining about!
[06:50]<iscd>dude! my cellphone just made this really crackhead noise and died.
[06:50]<znpyzys>shesh
[06:50]<iscd>Fieldy!
[06:50]<fdnfmd>;)
[06:50]<auacns>Isky: showthing like FEATURES=-strict emerge -av1 portage I think solves yr problem
[06:50]<znpyzys>Splode!
[06:51]<iscd>juckes: so did emerge -uDNav portage. =)
[06:51]<iscd>juckes: this is what I get for not updating 'cause I'm too busy.
[06:51]<irdevxjs>heeeeeeeeeeeey
[06:51]<irdevxjs>help
[06:51]<irdevxjs>wow
[06:51]<gfvggsvzz>bah i'll just grab the package via usb pen drive
[06:51]<irdevxjs>sorry for that
[06:51]<znpyzys>japanese is my learning :D
[06:51]<irdevxjs>but how do I get a long an entire emerge session?
[06:51]<2zdrg>is there a terminal that supports tabs?
[06:51]<2fjrrsyn>Isky: ssh root@name.of.other.system.XX mount /dev/partiton /mnt/tmp
[06:52]<dtgjzd>OMG 5 hours later and glibc has finished being updated
[06:52]<auacns>Isky: way too busy
