[11:40]<vxn_xjsnz>sb live cards are tempermental...
[11:40]<vxn_xjsnz>tama00: hehe
[11:40]<sddfndg>not really blackace i can't even solve peoples gentoo problems anymore :(
[11:40]<mgrm_ogg>i have similar problem, just set it to the oss support alsa offers
[11:41]<2frrarrn>SmileyG: why not?
[11:41]<sddfndg>because i suck :(
[11:41]<sddfndg>i tried to help two peeps
[11:41]<vrdr00>the_hoser, nothing on the video but:(
[11:41]<sddfndg>yesterday
[11:41]<vzyppym_hugvnz>what_if: hrm sounds like you have driver problems rather than config ones.. try turning the master and pcm volume down to 90% or so, see if it sounds better. I know my nforce2/ac97 card clips if i put the volumes above 96%
[11:41]<sddfndg>:/
[11:41]<2frrarrn>SmileyG: nah, you just have to believe in yourself</zenwisdom>
[11:41]<sddfndg>ah thanks blackace
[11:41]<sddfndg>simple stuff i can do ;D
[11:42]<rrxjjv>what_if: and do not enable any mixer settings you don't really need - don't max all levels
[11:42]<vxn_xjsnz>what_if: yeah... most volume levels should be below 95% on hd cards... if you use alsamixer, and have nice powered speakers, set the volume to within the yellow lines if your speakers are loud enough... probably the best way to do it...
[11:42]<wxrv_yp>Triffid_Hunter: I have kernel version 2.6.16-r7 it is the latest stable. Turning down the volume had no effect on the audio output
[11:42]<vxn_xjsnz>my sblive starts to crackle a bit if i put the pcm over 80%
[11:43]<wxrv_yp>Triffid_Hunter: in other words, i have full blast and mute as muy options
[11:44]<vzyppym_hugvnz>what_if: yep the drivers don't think much of your card.. it may be worth your while to see if alsa-drivers work any better than the alsa stuff that comes with the kernel
[11:44]<wxrv_yp>Triffid_Hunter: good idea :)
[11:44]<vrdr00>the_hoser, do you need to have like drm or something to run videos in this ogle
[11:44]<sfdlldz9>anyone know how i can set the umask of another user without logging in as that user?
[11:45]<vxn_xjsnz>tama00: no, i just enabled xv support for xfree86
[11:45]<vrdr00>the_hoser, and you did that how;)
[11:45]<vxn_xjsnz>tama00: use flags
[11:45]<vxn_xjsnz>tama00: make.conf... or more specifically, i emerged ufed and set the xv flag...
[11:46]<vxn_xjsnz>damnit! apple.com crashed firefox!!!
[11:46]<vrdr00>the_hoser, ohh okay thanks:)
[11:48]<rrxjjv>what_if: are you using snd-intel-hda?
[11:48]<rrxjjv>what_if: might be you need alsa 1.0.11 for that card
[11:48]<rjjmy_>how can I find out what's the newest available package for e.g. sun-jdk? atm. I unmask it in package.keywords and do a emerge -pvt sun-jdk - to find that out and im not even sure if that works as expected :)
[11:49]<wxrv_yp>cahoot: yes
[11:49]<vrdr00>the_hoser, still cant see any video
[11:49]<z0ggd>hi
[11:50]<rrxjjv>what_if: what does cat /proc/asound/version show?
[11:50]<vxn_xjsnz>tama00: do an "emerge --newuse --update --pretend world" and see what it needs to re-emerge
[11:50]<z0ggd>anyone knows how to get x11-drm compiled for kernel 2.6.17-r4 ?
[11:50]<vxn_xjsnz>and then do a "emerge --newuse --update world"
[11:50]<wxrv_yp>cahoot: v 1.0.11rc2
[11:51]<vxn_xjsnz>so... have we gotten anywhere regarding a fix to the fact that it takes portage 30 minutes to sync?
[11:51]<vzyppym_hugvnz>the_hoser: it's faster in the ~x86 ver of portage
[11:51]<rmzyrrg>how to emerge firefox?
[11:51]<vrdr00> the_hoser a fair bit of stuff.
[11:51]<vnpnzy`>Adriaan: emerge mozilla-firefox
[11:51]<wxrv_yp>cahoot: and none of the controls work for the card (mute vol etc)
[11:51]<vxn_xjsnz>tama00: there ya go :)
[11:51]<rmzyrrg>teferi, thanks
[11:51]<vrdr00>the_hoser, im sick of it anwyas im gonna watch it on my dvd player
[11:51]<vxn_xjsnz>tama00: have fun :-D
[11:51]<vrdr00>the_hoser, thanks for your help
[11:51]<vrdr00>later
[11:52]<vxn_xjsnz>tama00: sorry i couldnt help more
[11:52]<rrxjjv>what_if: I'd try alsa-1.0.11 (the final not any rc)
[11:52]<vrdr00>the_hoser, you did well;) im just tired and sick and cant be botherd working out stuff on linux rigt now
[11:52]<vxn_xjsnz>tama00: ah :)
[11:52]<wxrv_yp>cahoot: well, i have kernel side alsa support. guess I could recompile
[11:53]<rmzyrrg>how to install sort of drivers for your videocard?
[11:53]<vrdr00>the_hoser, hehe yeah... wel catch ya later
[11:53]<vxn_xjsnz>tama00: cya
[11:55]<sgzgg>anyone using xfce 4.3?
[11:55]<2nnnnn>hey guys, how would i automatically start an executable shell script once i've logged on as root ? (i believe you would do for e.g exec /root/run.sh) and then if i open another terminal and su to root, i dont want the application to start again
[11:56]<wxrv_yp>cahoot: is there any way to find out what version of the ALSA drivers are in the kernel ?
[11:56]<sgzgg>i need to find some ebuilds for xfce 4.3 panel plugind
[11:56]<sgzgg>plugins*
[11:56]<vzyppym_hugvnz>beezee: you'd have to put it in ~/.bash_profile or ~/.bashrc and make it not start if its already running
[11:56]<sgzgg>googled with no avail
[11:56]<sgzgg>and i used some before cant find them
[11:57]<2nnnnn>Triffid_Hunter: put "it" ? put what?
[11:57]<vzyppym_hugvnz>beezee: your command
[11:58]<2nnnnn>Triffid_Hunter: even if i put the command, and when i log back in on another terminal as root, it would execute the command again
[11:58]<rgwv>i am writing some c code to take dumps of 16 stereo streams and trying to pass them to a named pipe, to mux them and make mpeg2-aac for dvb-asi delivery. my q is can i just "interleave" 16 bits for each channel, then move onto next stream , blah blah and pass it to faac?
[11:58]<sgzgg>=*
[11:59]<2nnnnn>Triffid_Hunter: I don't want multiple processes of the same application running.
[11:59]<sgzgg>=(
[11:59]<rgwv>possibly this isn't a gentoo Q
[11:59]<sgzgg>ne1>
[11:59]<rgwv>but i will answer three ;)
[11:59]<vzyppym_hugvnz>beezee: er yes that's why i said make it not start if its already running....
[11:59]<sgzgg>#xfce is no help
[11:59]<rrxjjv>anxt: try #lad
[11:59]<2nnnnn>Triffid_Hunter: so just basically a command to make it not run again?
[12:00]<rgwv>cahoot, i will thanks.
[12:00]<dnp>Anyone know why I cannot seem to use dbus? The dbus --system is started automatically, but dbus --session I have to start manually.... And even then, every program using dbus spits out an error stating that it was unable to determine the address of the message bus...
[12:00]<wxrv_yp>breese # if (! pidof [program] ); then exec
[12:00]<rmzyrrg>can someone help me i downloaded video card drivers from NVIDA.COM how to install m now?
[12:00]<rmzyrrg>it is a run file
[12:01]<rgwv>i am writing some c code to take dumps of 16 stereo streams and trying to pass them to a named pipe, to mux them and make mpeg2-aac for dvb-asi delivery. my q is can i just "interleave" 16 bits for each channel, then move onto next stream , blah blah and pass it to faac?
[12:01]<vzyppym_hugvnz>beezee: yep.. pretty simple bashism.. if [ -z "`pidof -x commandname`" ]; then commandname &; fi
[12:01]<rgwv>err dorry the second it was in buffer
[12:01]<wxrv_yp>Adriaan: do "emerge nvidia-kernel nvidia-glx"
[12:01]<dnp>Adriaan: Isn't nvidia-kernel working for you?
[12:01]<2frrarrn>mzbot: gentoo Adriaan nvidia guide
[12:01]<wxrv_yp>Adriaan: portage will fetch and make it for you
[12:01]<de2jv>Adriaan: http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/nvidia-guide.xml
[12:01]<avmgnsvn>anyone with commit access care to fix a really easy bug in gnome-system-tools-2.14.0?
[12:01]<rmzyrrg>what_if, Def, mzbot, thanks ;)
[12:01]<2frrarrn>jvdneste: no, please file a bug report.
