[16:27]<ry2j>+Using /lib/modules/2.4.26-vs1.28/kernel/drivers/net/pcnet32.o
[16:27]<ry2j>+<aibo> /lib/modules/2.4.26-vs1.28/kernel/drivers/net/pcnet32.o: create_module: Operation not permitted
[16:27]<ry2j>+help please, module loading is enabled in my kernel .config
[16:27]<mzzvxvzmnz>-hi..i was wondering if i use wpa_supplicant for my wireless..what are to be configured in my kerenel?
[16:27]<ryaxyx>+installing a new gentoo-sources when emerging iptables will not change the kernel, it is only needed to create new modules, correct?
[16:27]<ddyyccnnwq>+i keep getting /etc/host.conf: line 24: bad command `mdns off'
[16:27]<ddyyccnnwq>+ whenever i use svn. any ideas?
[16:27]<szfdggzzz>-hi
[16:28]<vzyppym_hugvnz>+RichiH: no its so you can update the kernel yourself, whichever way you like
[16:29]<szfdggzzz>-I'd like to remove a package and ALL its dependants. For example, if I remove win32codecs, I'll want to remove mplayer too
[16:29]<szfdggzzz>-how can i do that?
[16:29]<ryaxyx>+Triffid_Hunter: well, if it does not do anything, what would it be installed for? ;)
[16:29]<vzyppym_hugvnz>+RichiH: usually because you've told emerge to update things, and there's an update available
[16:29]<ddyyccnnwq>+RichiH: maybe it only runs on newer kernels? dunno, but if you never go make menuconfig && make && make install you'll never get a new kernel
[16:30]<add-2uggd>-is there by any chance a liveDVD image I can download? I just don'
[16:30]<add-2uggd>-t have any CDRs
[16:30]<ryaxyx>+Triffid_Hunter: i only wanted to emerge iptables and slocate
[16:30]<ddyyccnnwq>+Amy-bunny: you can burn a cd image to a dvd
[16:30]<add-2uggd>-mmiikkee12 - really, how? I tried that earlier with the liveCD burning with Nero, and it said that it didnt accept the media.
[16:31]<ryaxyx>+mmiikkee12: i would not want to change anything on this kernel
[16:31]<ddyyccnnwq>+Amy-bunny: ok, maybe not.
[16:31]<ddyyccnnwq>+RichiH: make oldconfig \o/
[16:31]<ryaxyx>+it is part of a custom system which i did not build..
[16:31]<ddyyccnnwq>+btw, kernel kernel 2.6.16-gentoo-r3 and it doesn't want to update it on here...
[16:32]<awnsjdn-jq000>+there seems to be a bit of a lag between starting local and me getting a login prompt - what would cause this and how can I fix it?
[16:32]<szfdggzzz>-I'd like to remove a package and ALL the packages that depends on i
[16:32]<szfdggzzz>-t
[16:32]<lyguwmrpyr>+all : any one uses kde-3.5.2?
[16:32]<ddyyccnnwq>+salmenara: ***WARNING: THIS MAY BREAK SOMETHING*** try emerge --depclean
[16:33]<ddyyccnnwq>+salmenara: it's so dangerous you can just ignore that ;)
[16:33]<dtgjzd>+trying to chroot from cd to my install and when doing chroot /mnt/gentoo /bin/bash its saying cannot run command /bin/bash: no such file or directory
[16:33]<dtgjzd>+any ideas?
[16:33]<dtgjzd>+my command prompt is livecd gentoo #
[16:33]<szfdggzzz>-mmiikkee12: I'll try it
[16:33]<szfdggzzz>-thanks
[16:33]<zgmznw_l>+hello
[16:33]<vzyppym_hugvnz>+DTGorm: have you mounted it?
[16:33]<ddyyccnnwq>+salmenara: make sure you have backups
[16:33]<wjznm>+"Failed to load module " i915 " (module does not exist,0)" , i compiled the drivers from freedesktop.org ( common / i915) without errors, DRI is not build in in kernel therefore. Driver "i915" in the xorg.conf.../usr/X11./modules/dri/i915_dri.so exitst, but no modules/drivers/i915_drv.so .. any soggestions ?
[16:34]<ddyyccnnwq>+salmenara: DONT DO THAT
[16:34]<ddyyccnnwq>+sorry, that's not what depclean does :P
[16:34]<ddyyccnnwq>+CANCEL IT
[16:34]<ddyyccnnwq>+</yelling excessively
[16:34]<dtgjzd>+i tried to mount using mount -t proc none /mnt/gentoo/proc
[16:35]<dtgjzd>+and sait no such file or directory
[16:35]<ddyyccnnwq>+what? i don't want to get banned for giving someone the wrong emerge option...
[16:35]<zgmznw_l>+are there any known troubles with Intel GMA950? I wonder if kernel and xorg work well with this GPU on laptops ..
[16:35]<vzyppym_hugvnz>+DTGorm: lol you need to mount your root partition on /mnt/gentoo first
[16:35]<dtgjzd>+ahhhhhh
[16:35]<zgmznw_l>+Apple MacBook, to be more exact ;)
[16:35]<dtgjzd>+heh, need to go back further in the handbook
[16:35]<dtgjzd>+thanks
[16:35]<lalxnd>+!meta xchat
[16:35]<annvns>+pjphem: Package: net-irc/xchat Herd: net-irc Maintainer: net-irc
[16:35]<lalxnd>+!herd net-irc
[16:35]<annvns>+pjphem: (net-irc) antarus, swegener
[16:36]<szfdggzzz>-mmiikkee12: Then... what should I do??
[16:36]<ddyyccnnwq>+salmenara: holdo n
[16:37]<dtgjzd>+what does the "export PS1-"(chroot) $PS1" do?
[16:38]<ddyyccnnwq>+DTGorm: puts (chroot) in front of the prompt
[16:38]<dtgjzd>+does that step make a difference?
[16:38]<ddyyccnnwq>+so you'll have "(chroot) blah" instead of jsut blah
[16:39]<ddyyccnnwq>+DTGorm: it helps to make sure you're in the right vc, but not really besides that
[16:39]<ddyyccnnwq>+salmenara: find them all and unmerge them yourself :D
[16:40]<dtgjzd>+ok, now back to my original problem.. wouldnt boot with lilo, said boot device was wrong or something
[16:40]<dtgjzd>+i have image=/boot/kernel-genkernel-x86-2.6.16-gentoo-r7 ... and i swear thts what the boot kernel was called
[16:40]<ddyyccnnwq>+DTGorm: use grub
[16:41]<ddyyccnnwq>+do you have a separate /boot?
[16:41]<dtgjzd>+i dont have a separate boot
[16:41]<dtgjzd>+that i knwo of
[16:41]<awnsjdn-jq000>+how do I clear out all the source files I used to build my system?
[16:42]<n2pn>+why dont ppl just follow what the handbook says
[16:42]<ddyyccnnwq>+DTGorm: as in, how many partitions do you have, and if >1, is one of them mounted on /boot?
[16:42]<awnsjdn-jq000>+Id like to keep my build size down so its easier to back up
[16:42]<n2pn>+awesome: check the distfiles dir in your portage dir
[16:42]<n2pn>+e.g. /usr/portage/distfiles
[16:42]<awnsjdn-jq000>+thats it?
[16:42]<dtgjzd>+cd
[16:42]<ddyyccnnwq>+i think they're in /var/something actualyl
[16:42]<n2pn>+thats it
[16:42]<ddyyccnnwq>+ebfe: gentoo is about choices,
[16:43]<awnsjdn-jq000>+you guys have really slimmed this down in the last few years
[16:43]<ddyyccnnwq>+so they choose not to follow the directions :P
[16:45]<mzzvxvzmnz>-hi guyz..i set { gwap ALL = (ALL) ALL
[16:45]<mzzvxvzmnz>- } and { Defaults:janjan timestamp_timeout=3 } in my sudoers file..i want to add a specific comand that dont need password, how will i do it?
[16:49]<awnsjdn-jq000>+does 1.7 gigs sound about right for a stage3 install?
[16:49]<sjufjz2>+Anyone know what package trace is in?
[16:50]<fzlzvjz>-i get some strange error when using layer7 with iptables.. ex: "iptables: Unknown error 18446744073709551615"
[16:50]<fzlzvjz>-any idea ?
[16:50]<awnsjdn-jq000>+must be coffee time
[16:50]<awnsjdn-jq000>+anyhow - thanks for the killer distro
[16:50]<rycyn>-does there exist an application that checks if you have got mail and than executes another program?
[16:50]<awnsjdn-jq000>+ill keep you updated on the progress of modular xorg/xgl/nvidia
[16:51]<gfvggsvzz>+aikie> gkrellm ?
[16:53]<rrxjjv>+aikie: if you use procmail it can launch some app when you get mail
[16:54]<luaxu>-hi, how can i find out in which mode my ram is running...dual or single channel?
[16:54]<vyvjv>+morning all, was wondering if mounting any usb devices is done differently in gentoo than other linux
[16:54]<lrf>+puchu, listen to the electron stream, does it have an echo?
[16:55]<vzyppym_hugvnz>+puchu: memtest86 will report twice the bandwidth as just one stick
[16:55]<vyvjv>+i ran a dmesg and got "usb 5-8: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 3"
