[21:17]<mdsvjldzgzzd>+^zeon^: read the man pages
[21:17]<vuwyac>-doesn't really sound like gentoo thing
[21:20]<adjurrww>+where do I find ebuilds for previous versions of vmware? I have workstation 5.5-15576
[21:21]<2fun2yzm__>+jyoungxx: /usr/portage/app-emulation/vmware-workstation/
[21:21]<mdsvjldzgzzd>+jyoungxx: http://packages.gentoo.org/search/?sstring=vmware
[21:21]<2fun2yzm__>+emerge it with emerge =app-emulation/vmware-workstation-3.2.1-r1
[21:22]<adjurrww>+damn so I can't install 15576?
[21:22]<adjurrww>+it isn't on the list
[21:22]<adjurrww>+this is the only version I got
[21:23]<mrrx_mjmn>-HEllo
[21:23]<awnsjdn-jq000>+yowtch thats a lotta building
[21:23]<awnsjdn-jq000>+ill be REAL happy to get this backed up
[21:23]<2fun2yzm__>+jyoungxx: there are two options: write an ebuild for it an put it into your overlay or installit without portage(rp or something like that)
[21:23]<dja|xjdn>+mzbot: wiki stage 4
[21:23]<de2jv>+doc|home: http://gentoo-wiki.com/HOWTO_Custom_Stage4
[21:23]<dja|xjdn>+Awesome-o2000: read that ^
[21:23]<dznwax>-Does anyone know anything abouT ATI Drivers?
[21:23]<dzzcmjjgdzwg>-I am compiling gentoo-sources 2.6.16-gentoo-r7, in Character Devices, I need to enable /dev/agpgart support, however where I would expect it to be "< >" it is "---", any suggestions?
[21:24]<mrrx_mjmn>-do you know what is the sound card name from the kernel alsa configuration that makes snd_azx to work?
[21:24]<adjurrww>+ok
[21:24]<awnsjdn-jq000>+oh no, thats what screwed me up the last time
[21:24]<dja|xjdn>+:)
[21:24]<awnsjdn-jq000>+lets hear it for dual-boot and norton ghost - one click backup, high compression, no fuss no muss
[21:24]<adjurrww>+do you have to be a developer to write ebuilds?
[21:24]<zsc>-jyoungxx: no
[21:24]<adjurrww>+ok
[21:24]<adjurrww>+i'll give it a try
[21:25]<adjurrww>+would be some good info to have anyways
[21:25]<dznwax>-Can anyone help me with setting up ATI drivers on AMD64 with a third party Radeon Card???
[21:25]<mrrx_mjmn>-snd_azx
[21:25]<zsc>-mzbot: ?gentoo ati guide Drewch
[21:25]<ruyperruyr>+I see this http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/home-router-howto.xml but what I really want to do it build a gentoo box just to pass packets between two interfaces, on the LAN side after m0n0wall, and run snort as an IDS... would this be possible with modifications to that router guide? I dont want it running dhcp, just to act like a transparent box between a switch (my computers) and my m0n0wall firewall
[21:25]<mrrx_mjmn>-what is the module name in kernel configure ?
[21:25]<ajxnd>+My ISP renews the DHCP lease each 5 minutes, and sometimes, my Gentoo machine just lose its connection with 5 minutes intervals. If that happens, I need to rerun /etc/init.d/net.eth0 restart and then it works for another 5 or 10 minutes... Or sometimes many days without problems.
[21:25]<ajxnd>+How can I track the problem?
[21:25]<dznwax>-rsk: ?
[21:26]<mrrx_mjmn>-mm, could you use noip.com ?
[21:27]<dzzcmjjgdzwg>-I am compiling gentoo-sources 2.6.16-gentoo-r7, in Character Devices, I need to enable /dev/agpgart support, however where I would expect it to be "< >" it is "---", when emerging ati-drivers the driver complains about this specific option, I need to know how to enable this, or i'm going to ahve to try vanilla sources which i would rather avoid.
[21:27]<txnjracjpafu2s>-jeebus theres alot of people in here
[21:27]<mrrx_mjmn>-do you guys have cmedia 9880L audio card in your computer?
[21:27]<xfyg2gzdrg>+1010... yes. That's a lot.
[21:27]<mrrx_mjmn>-how do you make it work?
[21:27]<dznwax>-DarkMoonDawn: enable it with y?
[21:28]<dznwax>-oh nevermind sorry dark
[21:28]<dzzcmjjgdzwg>-Drewch: No in the option it is "---" instead of "< >" or "[ ]"
[21:28]<dzzcmjjgdzwg>-yeah
[21:28]<dznwax>-yeah i just noticed that :S
[21:28]<mdsvjldzgzzd>+DarkMoonDawn: you need to find out which other option is forcing this particular option to be enabled
[21:29]<txnjracjpafu2s>-well peace out
[21:29]<xfyg2gzdrg>+^zeon^, read the info pages. :PP
[21:29]<mrrx_mjmn>-mm
[21:29]<mrrx_mjmn>-zeon, add your user to sudoers
[21:29]<mdsvjldzgzzd>+^zeon^: what is wrong with reading the man pages?
[21:30]<xfyg2gzdrg>+^zeon^, http://home.ubalt.edu/abento/linux/terminal/sudo.html and google is your friend. :)
[21:30]<vjvzzy>-i'm trying to update my system but portage is attempting to emerge a slotted app that i don't want.. i use php4 .. so, when i emerge world portage wants to install php5 which i don't want...
[21:30]<qrrcjrrq>+I am almost thee with my network boot. I just need a little help
[21:30]<mdsvjldzgzzd>+^zeon^: you'll never get anywhere if you're not willing to read, and the man pages aren't very long at all
[21:30]<mdsvjldzgzzd>+tovari: so mask it
[21:30]<xfyg2gzdrg>+^zeon^, That tells you how to use sudo
[21:31]<xyzx-pznf>+hmm...how come ifconfig replaces my /etc/resolv.conf ...everytime i do ifconfig eth0 down or up...it defaults my /etc/resolv.conf to just my routers nameserver....then i have to add both of my dns's to it just to get it working
[21:31]<slns>-hi, I might be stupid but... I can't listen to music CDs... Konqueror says: An error occurred while loading audiocd:/:
[21:31]<slns>-Could not read /. , and /mnt/cdrom is pointing to the right /dev/hdd device... what's wrong?
[21:31]<dzzcmjjgdzwg>-In my kernel I have chosen "x86_64" as my arch, could this be a limiting option?
[21:31]<qrrcjrrq>+I followed the docs in the handbook for pxeboot. I just need help on how to get the machine to boot the gentoo install livecd. Do I copy the contents of the livecd into the /diskless/boot dir?
[21:31]<mdsvjldzgzzd>+^zeon^: the point of this channel is to help with non-trvial problems that can't easily be solved with reading the man pages and/or other easily accessible documentation
[21:31]<xfyg2gzdrg>+^zeon^, man sudoers (not man sudo) tells you how to set it up... you won't need to read all of it.
[21:32]<mdsvjldzgzzd>+DarkMoonDawn: did you use an amd64 stage and livecd?
[21:32]<mrrx_mjmn>-do you guys have cmedia 9880L audio card in your computer?
[21:32]<mrrx_mjmn>-how do you make it work?
[21:32]<sdrsxcrv>+Turns out that the Gentoo version of Sendmail I have here is creating the aliases.db file in /etc, so it couldn't see it when it started up. I've added a symlink and it's now working fine! Wierd though. I'm going to install from the official sendmail tarball to see if that fixes it properly.
[21:32]<gymmrt7q>-dystopianray, worked wipeing the MBR
[21:32]<mdsvjldzgzzd>+MaRX_Mode: read the alsa guide
[21:32]<mdsvjldzgzzd>+nimda562: cool
[21:32]<dzzcmjjgdzwg>-dystopianray: yes.
[21:32]<dzzcmjjgdzwg>-I just changed it to amd64 it still won't go
[21:32]<gymmrt7q>-i read on the net that some of the unix tools ive been useing causes this,..
[21:33]<mdsvjldzgzzd>+nimda562: cause what?
[21:33]<gymmrt7q>-the wacked mbr
[21:33]<xfyg2gzdrg>+^zeon^, and http://linux.about.com/od/commands/l/blcmdl5_sudoers.htm was on the first page.
[21:33]<mrrx_mjmn>-ermm.... well, i have readet it.. but what is the correct module for it to enable from kernel.. i know i should use snd_azx but what on earth is it?
[21:33]<xfyg2gzdrg>+^zeon^, of google.
[21:33]<mdsvjldzgzzd>+SpeS: you don't mount audio cds
[21:34]<slns>-dystopianray, mounting it gives other error
[21:34]<slns>-dystopianray, mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/cdroms/cdrom1,
[21:34]<slns>- missing codepage or other error
[21:34]<mdsvjldzgzzd>+SpeS: i repeat, you 'do not' mount audio cds
[21:35]<slns>-dylix`, ok ok, but then how can I listen to it?
[21:35]<dzzcmjjgdzwg>-Uh I found it out, thanks for the help, the IOMMU option in "Processor type and features" was blocking it.
[21:35]<ppjppn>+SpeS: put /dev/hdX instead of /mnt/cdrom
[21:35]<mrrx_mjmn>-dystopianray: ermm.... well, i have readet it.. but what is the correct module for it to enable from kernel.. i know i should use snd_azx but what on earth is it?
[21:35]<slns>-let's see
[21:35]<mdsvjldzgzzd>+SpeS: you should just be able to go to audiocd://dev/cdrom i think?
[21:35]<dzzcmjjgdzwg>-K8 Gart IOMMU or some crap.
[21:35]<mdsvjldzgzzd>+MaRX_Mode: havea look at the alsa section of the kernel config
[21:35]<dzzcmjjgdzwg>-time to compile reboot and retry =)
[21:36]<slns>-An error occurred while loading audiocd://dev/cdrom:
[21:36]<slns>-You cannot specify a host with this protocol. Please use the audiocd:/ format instead
[21:36]<mrrx_mjmn>-dystopianray: yea, and ?
