[22:18]<ma2gggyg>do i need to just reinstall gentoo?
[22:18]<egx>mattmatteh: that works fine. nothing news in dmesg
[22:19]<egx>mattmatteh: what idiot did ext2 on my partition :p
[22:19]<drvvdrvvnx>znh, read it fine ?
[22:19]<fgzgmzjzf>On boot: "Cannot create directory '/newroot/tmp':Read-only file system", Did something see this message before?
[22:19]<rjdnrj>immortality: madwifi?
[22:19]<egx>mattmatteh: with mount? no
[22:19]<dddjzvrfdvd>yup yup
[22:19]<dddjzvrfdvd>i have netgear 511 with madwifi
[22:19]<drvvdrvvnx>znh, well. then i would assume the drive is fine. and somehow the partition is messed up. might have too google it and/or post in the forums.
[22:19]<rjdnrj>immortality: I'm using madwifi as well.. sometimes I have to do "ifconfig ath0 down ; ifconfig ath0 up" for it to be able to connect
[22:20]<drvvdrvvnx>znh, read meanging the dd on the partion. that was a raw read
[22:20]<egx>mattmatteh: ext2 is not that smart of mines. that caused it me thinks
[22:20]<drvvdrvvnx>znh, i use ext3. and sometimes reiser
[22:20]<dddjzvrfdvd>i do that but its quite unsable disconnects every other seccond
[22:21]<egx>mattmatteh: thanks for the time. I really appreciate it!
[22:21]<drvvdrvvnx>znh, np. i am stepping out for a bit. wont repond for a while. later
[22:21]<izit>i'm currently emerging kdebase, kdenetwork and kdemultimedia. Although i have to shutdown my computer now. If i cancel the emerge, will it then fuck it up. Or will i beable to resume later on?
[22:21]<egx>mattmatteh: bye m8
[22:22]<dddjzvrfdvd>nomego: can i see your /etc/conf.d/net...
[22:22]<dddjzvrfdvd>or whichever the wireless info goes into
[22:22]<izit>emerge (9 of 23)
[22:22]<rjdnrj>immortality: I'm using networkmanager
[22:23]<dddjzvrfdvd>i c..
[22:23]<rgdaxys>"Filesize does not match recorded size" ... trying to emerge something, how can i force it?
[22:23]<dddjzvrfdvd>nomego: so your no using wpa_suppliant :?
[22:23]<zyvnzzrv>IrIT: First language.
[22:24]<sdl99oo>on boot im getting eth0 does not exist but i can see the drivers being loaded at boot time
[22:24]<zyvnzzrv>IrIT: The emerge should resume with the package it is currently on but it will start that package over.
[22:24]<tnfndra>Anyone could help me about postfix ?
[22:25]<sdvxd>hi, are there any difficulties in installing gentoo on the new MacBooks ?
[22:25]<sdvxd>graphics drivers, acpi (is there any on macbooks?) etc
[22:26]<czzzfj>Hey, I've sshd to a box. Can I open, say, xterm so that it would appear on the desktop [display :0]?
[22:26]<dyzyvzfznzlnz>well it runs on battery so you'd think there would be acpi there to make it last longer, unless maybe they have some custom implementation
[22:27]<rsmppp_>Sithy: try booting a livecd and see what happens.. see if it correctly autodetects your hardware
[22:27]<zyvnzzrv>kaarlo: If you used X 11 forwarding, yes.
[22:27]<igvwsw2fn>kaarlo: make sure the remote box has X11 forwarding on, then connect to it with ssh -X hostname/ip
[22:27]<rjdnrj>immortality: yes I am..
[22:27]<igvwsw2fn>then jsut run the program normally
[22:27]<dyzyvzfznzlnz>Sithy, best thing to do would be to load up the livecd and poke around a bit
[22:28]<czzzfj>RiverRat: I dont want to see that xterm myself, just to open it at the desktop (there is a monitor attached to the box)?
[22:28]<dddjzvrfdvd>ahh oka..
[22:28]<czzzfj>RiverRat: Sorry, no (?) but (.)
[22:28]<zyvnzzrv>kaarlo: That has security issues but yes you can do it. I used to do it to my g/f's box for her.
[22:29]<czzzfj>RiverRat: Tell me more... :)
[22:29]<czzzfj>RiverRat: I mean indeed the error is auth something.
[22:30]<bfdrv>Would anyone have any idea as to why xorg (not modular) is using /xorg.conf instead of /etc/X11/xorg.conf?
[22:30]<bfdrv>And is modular xorg stable yet?
[22:30]<zyvnzzrv>kaarlo: You need to know the display of the current user and then you: DISPLAY=":0.0" your-command
[22:31]<sdvxd>asdfff_, DigitalReaper, i don't have a MacBook (yet) ;) but i'm strongly considering buying one. and how well its supported under linux is what im looking into right now
[22:31]<fgzgmzjzf>On boot: "Cannot create directory '/newroot/tmp':Read-only file system", Did something see this message before?
[22:31]<dyzyvzfznzlnz>ah, i see
[22:31]<czzzfj>RiverRat: Oh, so xterm -display :0 is not working because env var is not set correctly, right?
[22:32]<sdvxd>basicaly, i'm looking for user-feedback : i.e. if any1 in here has a MacBook with gentoo running smoothly then please put your hand up :))
[22:32]<rrxjjv>LeandroAl: try here: http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-320660.html
[22:32]<zyvnzzrv>kaarlo: I didn't know that xterm had that option. You also need to be auth'd to write to that display. The current user of that display needs to do it w/ the xauth command.
[22:33]<rrxjjv>kaarlo: wouldnt DISPLAY be 10 or such?
[22:33]<bfdrv>No one has a clue why xorg is looking in / for its own config file?
[22:33]<rrrr>anyone got a hint on how to get amarok to play mp3's (xmms workes)?
[22:33]<xdfan>Blyat: no
[22:34]<fgzgmzjzf>cahoot, thank u, I m going to check..
[22:34]<czzzfj>RiverRat: Ok, I need to man xauth now, thanks!
[22:34]<rrxjjv>X11DisplayOffset 10
[22:35]<zyvnzzrv>cahoot: He wants to open it for a different user or on the remote display.
[22:35]<bfdrv>Okay then
[22:35]<czzzfj>RiverRat: correct
[22:35]<czzzfj>RiverRat: Just wondering, is there a howto on this? What should I google for?
[22:38]<crr1>what's the difference between a stage 1 and a stage 3 install? Don't they both just need to be compiled in the end?
[22:39]<myzzzcjz>well stage 1 everything is taken from the source
[22:39]<myzzzcjz>Stage 3 are prebuild packages
[22:39]<myzzzcjz>so, Stage 1 needs (much more) time than Stage 3
[22:39]<myzzzcjz>BUT:
[22:39]<crr1>Mirrakor : prebuilt packages? So why do I still need to compile ion stage 3?
[22:40]<mnwsxy>hm... it won't update xorg... how do i get it to?
[22:40]<svnv>my pam seems to be broken...su gives me as output: su: Authentication failure
[22:40]<svnv> but I belong to the wheel group... any idea?
[22:40]<zz2dmpuz2d>kga3: the prebuilt packages in stage3 are just to get you to a bootable system. if you want to do zero compilation ever, gentoo is not for you.
[22:40]<myzzzcjz>kga3, actually you don't have to ;) (At least the "core" packages are prebuild )
[22:41]<crr1>Mirrakor , rabidfurby : I'm actually doing a stage 3 install at the moment in another screen. It's taking ages to compile GCC
[22:41]<crr1>kga3 : Why do I have to compile GCC in stage 3?
[22:41]<jwlu2>how do i use sed to only print lines that contain To:?
[22:41]<svuup>i thought only stage1 compiles gcc
[22:41]<zz2dmpuz2d>kga3: sounds like the version of gcc that was in your stage3 tarball was old. you can probably get by without updating it.
[22:42]<svnv>does anyone know about a pam bug?
[22:42]<rsmppp_>oxpub: why not use grep?
[22:42]<mzcxzgmzz>kga3: YOu didn't change CHOST did you? If you did, you need to rebuild gcc.
[22:42]<jwlu2>does grep return the line?
[22:42]<gyws>kga3, its always nice to have a consistent system
[22:42]<rsmppp_>yes
[22:42]<jwlu2>i need to find all lines that have "To:" in them
[22:42]<crr1>rabidfurby : but I'm pulling everything from the web, how can my GCC be older?
[22:42]<jwlu2>and print those to a seperate file
[22:42]<svnv>(I use pam 0.7.8-r3)
[22:43]<dyzp>can I put an ftp loaction in 'stage tarball uri:' on gtk installer to get latest stage 3 tarball?
[22:43]<mnwsxy>it says xorg-x11 6.9 is blocking a lot of packages necessary for 7.0-r1
[22:43]<rsmppp_>oxpub: grep -n
[22:43]<mnwsxy>... what should i do?
[22:43]<jwlu2>oh wow
[22:43]<jwlu2>that did work
[22:43]<mzcxzgmzz>kga3: `The gcc your are running came out of the stage3 tarball as a binary.
