[22:43]<jwlu2>how to i exclude -To:?
[22:43]<jwlu2>and To: NULL
[22:43]<gyws>Mewshi, did you follow http://gentoo-wiki.com/HOWTO_Modular_Xorg ?
[22:43]<crr1>ni1s : but the system to which I'm installing is completely blank and all the files I'm using are being pulled from the net.
[22:44]<zyvnzzrv>oxpub: grep -v "expr-to-exclude"
[22:44]<dyzp>or will gtkinstaller check web automagically for the latest?
[22:44]<mzcxzgmzz>oxpub: YOu need to read up on grep. man grep. Look at the -v option.
[22:44]<crr1>What's the thing about changing the CHOST btw?
[22:44]<zz2dmpuz2d>kga3: the stage3 tarball you downloaded does not automatically contain the latest and greatest GCC
[22:45]<svnv>can I reinstall my stage3 packages without setting up a whole new system?
[22:45]<mzcxzgmzz>kga3: Yes, it is blank, but the compiler has to come from somwhere, without being compiled. That compiler must be used to rebuild gcc, so you have one that patches the source file from the package you emerged.
[22:45]<crr1>DrChandra : I see
[22:46]<mzcxzgmzz>kga3: Some people change the i386 in CHOST to i686. CHOST has to match the gcc build target, or many things break.
[22:46]<mzcxzgmzz>Up-arrow up-arrow s/patches/matches/
[22:46]<zyvnzzrv>DrChandra: If they do change that then they should run bootstrap.sh to rebuild the tool chain.
[22:46]<2fracfjvuson>moin
[22:46]<mzcxzgmzz>RiverRat: OK!
[22:46]<crr1>DrChandra : aha! btw is there any significant end-result performance improvement from installing from stage 1 or 2 instead?
[22:47]<mzcxzgmzz>kga3: Not that I am aware of.
[22:47]<zyvnzzrv>kga3: Yes. There are certain opcodes that are faster than others and only available on the higher processors. <-- DrChandra
[22:47]<crr1>DrChandra : I'm also on my 5th install of gentoo. for some reason I think that the pentium-m -march doesn't work with my Dell c400 laptop
[22:47]<jczzzvzs>hi good night..
[22:48]<2fracfjvuson>I have installed Windohv on my local system cause I have a lan party at the weekend when i start knoppix and want to repair the grubloader this error message appear Could not find device for /boot: Not found or not a block device.
[22:48]<2fracfjvuson> I have all done what I think is a possible reason for this problem can someone help me?
[22:48]<zyvnzzrv>kga3: At least when you can chnage the CHOST to a P-Pro or P4.
[22:48]<mzcxzgmzz>kga3: Someone asked about that yesterday. gcc-3.4.5 right?
[22:48]<crr1>RiverRat : But does it affect the final system performance or does it only affect the time to compile the system?
[22:48]<zyvnzzrv>There is a new gcc-3.4.6-r1 marked stable now.
[22:48]<crr1>DrChandra : yeah gcc3.4.5
[22:49]<mzcxzgmzz>RiverRat: Does bootstrap.sh also recompile nasty little packages that record CHOST, like perl and python do?
[22:49]<crr1>you think it might be GCC 3.4.5 that's messing up the pentium-m -march?
[22:49]<zyvnzzrv>kga3: Final performance. Programs can utilize better memory ops and so forth.
[22:49]<mnwsxy>it says that wacom tablet support is broken; is this still true?
[22:49]<mzcxzgmzz>kda3: YOu're the second person to report that while I've been here.
[22:49]<zyvnzzrv>DrChandra: It just hits the main toolchain. I always follow that with an "emerge -ave system" and usually a world after that.
[22:50]<wjzcrlxj2yr>is gcc4 suitable for gentoo these days?
[22:50]<crr1>DrChandra : ok, I've used safer flags: -mcpu=i686 -O3 -pipe instead of pentium-m
[22:50]<mzcxzgmzz>RiverRat: Believe it or not, I found a shortcut through that. Took weeks to iron out the nits, but I got it done.
[22:51]<mzcxzgmzz>Workaphobia: They plan to unmask it this week.
[22:51]<zyvnzzrv>DrChandra: What, excluding the system packages from world?
[22:51]<crr1>DrChandra : I'm giving it a try right now with those safer flags. Hopefully it won't screw up. Otherwise, RiverRat, how can I force it to use GCC 3.4.6 instead?
[22:51]<mzcxzgmzz>kga3: Check the gcc manpage. I think -march is preferred over mcpu, or was it mtune?
[22:51]<smpsmpsqqq>how do i gzip a whole directory?
[22:51]<wjzcrlxj2yr>DrChandra: Really.. Wow, good thing I didn't start my reinstall yet then
[22:52]<mnwsxy>http://gentoo-wiki.com/HOWTO_Modular_Xorg <- here it says that wacom tablet support is broken... if i have the kernel module, will it still work?
[22:52]<yxrm>Workaphobia: http://www.gentoo.org/news/en/gwn/20060522-newsletter.xml
[22:52]<mzcxzgmzz>sdfsdfs222: tar -cvzf file.tar.gz dirname
[22:52]<wjzcrlxj2yr>thanks
[22:52]<crr1>DrChandra : dunno I've been reading around and a few posts say that the pentium-m march doesn't work (as I have witnessed myself) and to use -mcpu instead. I know that's weird but I'm giving it a try
[22:53]<mzcxzgmzz>sdfsdfs222: Or are you talking about recursively gzipping all the files in a directory tree, in place?
[22:53]<tnfndra>Anyone could help me about postfix ?
[22:53]<sjugmsjfmynz>Telemac: what seems to be the problem?
[22:53]<crr1>brb
[22:53]<smpsmpsqqq>DrChandra recursively yes
[22:53]<smpsmpsqqq>every file inside every directory
[22:53]<tnfndra>soundsoldier: When I try to start sendmail I get following message "May 24 20:38:56 ulysse postfix/master[15373]: fatal: 0.0.0.0:smtp: Servname not supported for ai_socktype" in /var/log/messages
[22:54]<xdfan>infinite recursiveness
[22:54]<mzcxzgmzz>sdfsdfs222: find dirname -print0 | xargs -0 gzip (Those are zeros)
[22:55]<mzcxzgmzz>sdfsdfs222: Hmm, better add "-type f" to the find args
[22:55]<crr1>RiverRat : how can I specify that I want to use GCC 3.4.6 instead of 3.4.5 in my install?
[22:55]<_mw69w_>hello all! :D
[22:55]<zyvnzzrv>kga3: emerge =gcc-version
[22:55]<zznzm>hi, anyone knows how to emerge ati-drivers-8.25.18??
[22:55]<zyvnzzrv>kga3: And then select it with gcc-config
[22:56]<crr1>RiverRat : could you give me a more precise syntax please?
[22:56]<mzcxzgmzz>kga3: Why not stick with the stable 3.4.5 for now? YOu can always switch up later, and your system will be solid while you wait for gcc 4.1 to settle down.
[22:56]<zyvnzzrv>kga3: emerge -avDt =gcc-3.4.6-r1
[22:56]<crr1>DrChandra : GCC 3.4.5 is screwing up my install. lilo won't compile
[22:57]<zyvnzzrv>DrChandra: Accord to my box 3.4.6-r1 is stable now.
[22:57]<crr1>thanks RiverRat
[22:57]<mzcxzgmzz>RiverRat: When did you sync, relatively?
[22:57]<_mw69w_>Is there a GUI for configuring squid, something like what firestarter is for iptables?
[22:58]<yadl_>don't fear the cli
[22:58]<mzcxzgmzz>RiverRat: My sync is 7:40 old
[22:58]<crr1>icmp_: Common Language Interface?
[22:58]<zyvnzzrv>DrChandra: You're right. Too many versions and I was seeing crosseyed. It's arm that it's stable on.
[22:58]<tnfndra>soundsoldier: ?
[22:59]<_mw69w_>icmp: I don't, but this squid is not gonna be mine ;)
[22:59]<affggjb>uh oh - it's kga3!
[22:59]<crr1>yo AllenJB ,what on earth r u doing here? :)
[22:59]<hcf>hmm.. i'm definitely doing something wrong.. might anyone be able to help me? fresh gentoo install, and i'm forgetting to install something in X.. X runs, enlightenment is installed, but when i try to log in using xdm it just flashes the screen a few times and goes back to xdm...
[22:59]<affggjb>erm, being a Gentoo user
[22:59]<mzcxzgmzz>RiverRat: Aha. You're running Gentoo on an ARM? Or cross-developing?
[22:59]<yxrm>_M3741_: the closest thing would be webmin w/ the squid module... though you still have to know what you're doin...
[22:59]<affggjb>surprisingly enough
[22:59]<crr1>ah cool, most of the others are hardcore debian users
[23:00]<affggjb>more fool them!
[23:00]<crr1>:)
[23:00]<_mw69w_>ihad: so that is gonna have to cut it. ;)
[23:00]<_mw69w_>thnx :*
[23:00]<yxrm>_M3741_: np
[23:00]<zyvnzzrv>DrChandra: I was using the script that I'm now offering you via DCC.
[23:00]<mzcxzgmzz>RiverRat: Oh.
[23:01]<zyvnzzrv>DrChandra: Can you accept a DCC file?
[23:01]<mzcxzgmzz>RiverRat: That's OK.
[23:01]<mzcxzgmzz>RiverRat: I mean, nm
[23:02]<zyvnzzrv>DrChandra: It's a really handy script. Cirian wrote it.
[23:02]<ma2gggyg>is there a way to revert gentoo back to its original state? not removing apps, but basic settings?
[23:02]<_mw69w_>ihad: is this the module you were talking about -> http://www.swelltech.com/briefs/webmin/squid.html ?
[23:04]<gjfyrvs>does anyone know if i can add a flag somewhere that forces the sun-jdk ebuild to use the 32bit version (on a amd64 system)
