[03:31]<sydcyg>lame :(
[03:31]<sydcyg>complexity: bash + sed should be able to do this.
[03:31]<znysyj>complexity: what wm/de?
[03:31]<sydcyg>complexity: there might be an easier way though.
[03:31]<ajdffnwdvd>fluxbox
[03:31]<znysyj>hum
[03:32]<fjjfyj>anyone got any idea why startx keeps causing a kernel panic about not syncing? I'm on a 945 chipset with an ati x1600 using ati-drivers
[03:32]<znysyj>complexity: eix -s rename shows some nice things
[03:32]<ajdffnwdvd>woo
[03:32]<ajdffnwdvd>reisio: thanks a lot
[03:32]<ajdffnwdvd>Simkin: thanks for the suggestions as well
[03:33]<znysyj>complexity: and if you're bored, Xfce's new file manager 'thunar' has a renaming thingy
[03:34]<fjjfyj>Also, X -configure wont work, there's a ton of unresolved symbols in tons of differnet things
[03:34]<zvzndu>well gnome 2.14 emerged fine, and appears to boot fine, however neither the keyboard or mouse responds
[03:34]<dzzzz>anybody know why i wouldn't get a dmesg notice for my serial ports? i have two, have appropriate kernel support, but 'dmesg | grep tty' gives no output
[03:34]<syddnee>im getting the following error on boot and it is forcing maintenance mode followed by a reboot: ioctl() to /dev/rtc to set the time failed
[03:35]<znysyj>complexity: looks like this: http://reisio.com/temp/rename.png
[03:35]<zvzndu>and when i ctrl+alt to another session, and then go back, it brings me to a cmd line then i have to ctrl+c out of
[03:35]<sydcyg>192.168.0.0/24 means ips 192.168.1-255.1-255 ?
[03:35]<sydcyg>or 192.168.0.1-255
[03:35]<sydcyg>24 = the 24 significant bits, so it's the latter?
[03:35]<ajdffnwdvd>reisio: ok great i'll look into that to
[03:36]<ajdffnwdvd>thanks for all the recommendations
[03:36]<fjjfyj>Also, X -configure wont work, there's a ton of unresolved symbols in tons of differnet things
[03:36]<2smpjw>ok this dual monitor thing is bugging me now and I need help. http://pastebin.com/736203 is my xorg.conf. I can't get my lcd monitor working unless twinview is on wtf am I doing wrong? this works: http://www.pastebin.com/736221, this doesn't http://www.pastebin.com/736203. please help!
[03:37]<dzzzz>Simkin: yeah, /24 masks the last octet completely and only
[03:37]<brnwq>Is there anyway to see what config X is using
[03:37]<sljjvgyac>hi all. i'm installing gentoo on a server with hardware RAID. i know how to do software raid, but i believe in hardware RAID, gentoo would detect the "loop" device automagically, isn't it? how would I access the mirrored disk in order to build partitions on it?
[03:38]<sljjvgyac>or do i need to go through all the steps that software RAID would require anyway?
[03:39]<pugcdhrv>:S I thought you just accessed the mirrored disc as though it was a normal disc
[03:40]<sljjvgyac>funkyHat: i thought that would be the case with hardware raid too
[03:40]<pugcdhrv>(never used RAID btw, just an assumption ;))
[03:41]<syddnee>why would i be getting the ioctl error trying to set the clock from the hardware clock in /etc/init.d/clock?
[03:41]<sydcyg>spootnick: look in your dmesg, each raid drive shows up as a single drive to linux.
[03:41]<nvyffrsn>is there a howto setup subversion?
[03:41]<sljjvgyac>funkyHat: with software raid, you need to create /etc/raidtab, makedev, bla bla (there's a good page on the gentoo wiki about that)
[03:41]<nvyffrsn>for gentoo
[03:41]<sydcyg>spootnick: what raid controler?
[03:41]<vnpnzy`>does anyone know the command to set your background image?
[03:41]<vnpnzy`>id like to include it in my .xinitrc
[03:41]<sljjvgyac>Simkin: indeed i can see /dev/sda and /dev/sdb independently in dmesg
[03:42]<sydcyg>then you haven't properly set up your raid
[03:42]<sljjvgyac>Simkin: it's a tyan s2865 server
[03:42]<sljjvgyac>well, sounded fairly intuitive. i added them both to the array admin app (right after the BIOS)
[03:42]<pfuvjpzydn>how do I check if a bash variable is a digit or not??
[03:42]<sljjvgyac>and it shows up as an array every time i boot now
[03:42]<pfuvjpzydn>I tried [:digit:]
[03:42]<sydcyg>spootnick: but you still see the drives seperately?
[03:43]<pfuvjpzydn>and [1-9][0-9]*
[03:43]<sydcyg>spootnick: i've set up about 6 diff hardware raids, in each case the individual drives never showed up
[03:43]<sydcyg>spootnick: let me ssh into one of them now, one sec
[03:43]<dzzzz>anybody know why i wouldn't get a dmesg notice for my serial ports? i have two, have appropriate kernel support, but 'dmesg | grep tty' gives no output
[03:43]<sljjvgyac>Simkin: tks. theres' a bunch of nv_sata "device node added " in my dmesg
[03:43]<sljjvgyac>Simkin: but i can see /dev/sda and sdb there as well
[03:43]<vzyppym_hugvnz>yaaar: that gives nothing here too yet my serial ports work fine
[03:44]<rrrurf>Is it possible to do an install following the handbook using the livecd?
[03:44]<sljjvgyac>and i can still access both drives separately via cfdisk
[03:44]<sydcyg>spootnick: so what raid controler is it? is it an adaptec based controler?
[03:44]<dzzzz>Triffid_Hunter: oh yeah? odd, my ubuntu machine shows a couple lines identifying them, and so does whatever machine the guy i was talking to in #cisco was using
[03:44]<rrrurf>I am trying to do fdisk, but it says command not found.
[03:44]<dzzzz>Triffid_Hunter: you know a good way to test if they are properly setup?
[03:44]<sydcyg>nagual: you have to be root to use fdisk
[03:45]<dzzzz>Triffid_Hunter: my overarching problem here is that i can't seem to get the console up on my cisco 1548 switch
[03:45]<rrrurf>ok. thx.
[03:45]<sljjvgyac>Simkin: not sure... just a sec
[03:45]<rrrurf>So what would the default passwd be for root on the live cd.
[03:45]<vzyppym_hugvnz>yaaar: i use cutecom to talk to stuff on my serial ports..
[03:45]<dzzzz>Triffid_Hunter: i added serial support to kernel, emerged minicom, configured to 9600 8N1, no flow ctrl...
[03:45]<dzzzz>cutecom?
[03:45]<zzvxuz>i'm having a problem with a dependency x11-drivers/xf86-video-intel
[03:45]<zz2zggnz>I need help with xorg 7 and ati-drivers...
[03:45]<sljjvgyac>Simkin: Nvidia I suppose
[03:45]<vzyppym_hugvnz>yaaar: yeah, minicom seems to hate me
[03:45]<zz2zggnz>no one is answering in xorg or ati
[03:46]<zzvxuz>but i can't find it anywhere in the xorg-x11 ebuild
[03:46]<sydcyg>spootnick: i might be wrong. but i dont' think nvidia makes raid controlers.
[03:46]<sljjvgyac>Simkin: the admin app is signed by them at least
[03:46]<rrrurf>Simkin, So what would the default passwd be for root on the live cd.
[03:46]<sljjvgyac>nagual: none. u have to set it
[03:47]<sljjvgyac>(ops, sorry, it's the livecd you're talking about)
[03:47]<sljjvgyac>i thought in terms of minimal install cd for a sec
[03:47]<sydcyg>spootnick: on my one system that's using an adaptec controler the raid device shows up as sda. on another one that has a mylex raid controler it's c0d0p1 or p2, p3, (each partition)
[03:47]<xfyg2gzdrg>nagual, It's scrambled.
[03:47]<xfyg2gzdrg>Oh. Oopsies...
[03:47]<xfyg2gzdrg>Same. :(
[03:47]<sydcyg>spootnick: i have no idea what yours would show up as. maybe try using fdisk to scan?
[03:47]<rrrurf>So how do I change the root passwd on the live cd?
[03:47]<znysyj>nagual: handbook explains
[03:48]<sljjvgyac>Simkin: how could I scan with fdisk? i tried cfdisk on /dev/sda and /dev/sdb. i can do stuff on them, which tells me i can access them separately
[03:49]<sydcyg>spootnick: fdisk -l
[03:49]<zvzndu>if my usb isn't turning on when the computer boots, is there a problem with my kernel setup?
[03:49]<rrrurf>Hmmm. I think I will have to use the minimal install cd. I tried to use passwd to change the password and got "passwd: Authentication token manipulation error"
[03:49]<sljjvgyac>shows 2 disks =( and says sda hasn't a valid partition table
[03:50]<zvzndu>granted it only boots to the cmd line, not an x-session, but still theres no light coming on
[03:50]<sljjvgyac>crap. i'm gonna play around a bit with the raid array and see what happens
[03:50]<fuzyjusrnjzrn>cat /proc/interrupts says all my devices are on irq 3 or 7 (using boot cd for the first time)
[03:50]<zunnpnpzd>hey everyone
[03:50]<zunnpnpzd>hdparm -d 1 /dev/hda won't work on my dvd-rw drive, any ideas why?
[03:50]<fuzyjusrnjzrn>also im getting "lost ticks" errors on stderr complaining an instable driver may be hogging interrupts
[03:51]<fuzyjusrnjzrn>well actually i gotta lot of devices on irq 0 too
