[14:41]<xjffjwsjuf_>kc8px1, until nvidia upgrade thier drivers to xorg 7 new driver abi (btw srry got d/c)
[14:41]<uscyn>Oggu stage3
[14:41]<orru>?
[14:41]<tfkdfn>I'm fairly sure its not a pango bug as dj-fu said, rather an nvidia driver problem (which you couldn't fix if you wanted to since the driver is closed). https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=6349
[14:41]<uscyn>?
[14:41]<mrmn1n>hi, i've a problem with my ati radeon 9600... i've 3d enabled but when i use the 3d acceleration the screen turns more dark
[14:41]<orru>Gentoo 2006.0 Minimal CD/InstallCD, Gentoo 2006.0 Universal install CD, Gentoo 2006.0 Package CD or Gentoo 2006.0 LiveCD ?
[14:41]<mrmn1n>like it was burned
[14:42]<mrmn1n>i must close the app using 3d acceleration, and push the tv out on ati panel control to recover the screen with good saturation
[14:43]<mrmn1n>anyone have had this problem?
[14:43]<mrmn1n>i've it since my reinstall of the system
[14:43]<orru>Gentoo 2006.0 Minimal CD/InstallCD, Gentoo 2006.0 Universal install CD, Gentoo 2006.0 Package CD or Gentoo 2006.0 LiveCD for a 500mhz laptop?
[14:43]<aaolww>hollowsoul: so i can blame nvidia??? i know it's the wrong way, but could i just downgade my nvidia driver??? i have one that i had to for amd64
[14:44]<mrmn1n>Oggu: if where you install your system you have a good network connection, minimal CD
[14:44]<tfkdfn>kc8px1: downgrading your nvidia driver won't help, since they've not released any version thats corrected yet
[14:44]<orru>mad939: Thanks
[14:45]<aaolww>then why don't i have this problem on my 8178 i use on my amd64 install??
[14:45]<tfkdfn>kc8px1: you mainly have two options, either downgrade xorg to 7.0 (I think 7.1 is still masked anyway), or disable render acceleration in your xorg config (which will slow a lot down)
[14:46]<tfkdfn>kc8px1: you probably aren't using xorg 7.1 on your amd64, or aren't using the proprietry nvidia driver but the opensource nv one
[14:49]<zsuszgzvjz`>Yes it does Tom_Beers ;)
[14:49]<tfkdfn>kc8px1: it probably won't be fixed untill their 9xxx drivers are released (or so I heared in their forums)
[14:52]<lsd`>^willie^: just use the regular read + type approach
[14:53]<lsd`>^willie^: you were expecting it not to be? ;)
[14:53]<dj9cxzysv>yeehaa I'm in kde now
[14:53]<tfkdfn>^willie^: its not crap, keep in mind its still alpha/beta
[14:54]<dj9cxzysv>^willie^, I installed with the gui installer and had no trouble
[14:54]<tfkdfn>and 0.3 isn't even on the liveCD, is it?
[14:57]<svgpzgz>I have an usb-mouse which is not working in xorg 6.8. What should one normally do, to get it working? i have tried following: make new xorg.conf AND copyed the one over from livecd's by gentoo, knoppix and ubuntu. Ive also maked sure that the USB mouse/keyboard functions are supported by the kernel. ..any idears?
[14:58]<svgpzgz>it looks as if some support is missing somewhere? ... alltough i have had luck with mounting usb stick and so on..
[14:58]<vxnel_eyvy>stefanr: loading usb-hid and using /dev/input/mice in your xorg conf
[14:58]<svgpzgz>will try that, 2 sec
[14:59]<tnus>how can I install beta programs with emerge, like the latest release of the GIMP?
[15:00]<svgpzgz>therp_zivi, could i ask you a favour and explain where (section) is whould be placed, and "how" ..because i really have lost faith in my xorg.conf editing skills :)
[15:00]<lsd`>Teus: package.keywords
[15:00]<xdfan>echo "package-category/package" >> /etc/portage/package.keywords, Teus
[15:00]<yzcubyc>Teus: if it's in portage, it might be marked unstable. Check packages.gentoo.org. If it's there, you can do the thing they said :p
[15:01]<vxnel_eyvy>stefanr: focus your attention to any section InputDevice section that has the driver "mouse"
[15:01]<vxnel_eyvy>-section
[15:01]<svgpzgz>yes, found it
[15:01]<svgpzgz>the device is already mice
[15:01]<svgpzgz>and ive got the IMPS/2 protocol
[15:02]<tnus>Oktane, thanks
[15:02]<tnus>ill check
[15:02]<svgpzgz>(the identifier is "USB mouse")
[15:02]<vxnel_eyvy>ok
[15:02]<svgpzgz>so, i should add some usb-hid thing therp_zivi ?
[15:03]<ywcsn>hi all..how to get automount of cdroms, usb..ecc.. how-s called the packet?
[15:03]<ywcsn>i mean, just when plugged
[15:03]<svgpzgz>iwkse, search for supermount (in the kernel config)
[15:03]<ywcsn>ok
[15:04]<dr___>Hi. Can someone recommend good gui for portage?
[15:04]<svgpzgz>you manage afterwards by the /etc/fstab
[15:04]<ywcsn>i saw porthole...
[15:04]<ywcsn>isn-t bad
[15:04]<vxnel_eyvy>stefanr: yes, usb-hid is a kernel module
[15:04]<lsd`>iwkse: portage doesn't need a gui ;)
[15:04]<svgpzgz>..but should it be loaded somehow in the xorg.conf?
[15:05]<ywcsn>LSD: it can needs if you wanna have a list of packages and read them in treeview
[15:05]<svgpzgz>therp_zivi, ..because they are allready built into the kernel (non-module)
[15:06]<lsd`>iwkse: hal + dbus + a volume manager of some sort will give you mount-on-plug for at least CDs (and is a much better implementation than super mount)
[15:06]<dr___>LSD`, I want to remove not needed packages etc. and I want to browse them with some gui. Only for that
[15:07]<vxnel_eyvy>stefanr: cat /dev/input/mice, if stuff appears when moving mouse -> xorg problem, when nothing happens -> kernel/usb/mouse problem
[15:07]<ywcsn>LSD: hal mounts also usbsticks?
[15:07]<vxnel_eyvy>I gotta go, good luck
[15:07]<lsd`>iwkse: I believe so
[15:07]<svgpzgz>therp_zivi, okey, but there is already light in the optical mouse :/
[15:07]<ywcsn>cool..
[15:08]<svgpzgz>hmm
[15:08]<tfkdfn>iwkse: hal doesn't mount anything by itself, both ivman and gnome-volume-manager can mount usb sticks using HAL though
[15:09]<lsd`>is ivman still being actively developed?
[15:09]<mrmn1n>bye
[15:09]<tfkdfn>not sure, I use g-v-m most of the time these days
[15:10]<tfkdfn>"21 April 2006: Ivman 0.6.12 released." <-- probably not that activly, but its still alive it looks
[15:11]<tfkdfn>imo its pretty mature as it is, not that many new features need adding
[15:11]<2y2s>hello, while emerging the "gnome-extra/deskbar-applet-2.14.1.1" i have following problem:
[15:11]<2y2s>checking for gnomeapplet module... no
[15:11]<2y2s>configure: error: gnomeapplet module required to build deskbar
[15:11]<2y2s>what should i do?
[15:12]<lsd`>...install the gnomeapplet module perhaps?
[15:12]<tfkdfn>bibs: emerge gnome-python-extras iirc
[15:12]<2y2s>but there isn't any gnomeapplet module to install
[15:13]<2y2s>TFKyle: i have emerged gnome-python-extras
[15:14]<tfkdfn>hrm, actually it doesn't look like its a part of it
[15:15]<scdlxdz>hi all - having trouble that ivman isn't mounting anything for me - cds, dvds, usb pens etc. Here's the lshal of the usbdisk http://pastebin.com/736909 I noticed the mount_point is blank and I don't see any desired etc - any ideas?
[15:15]<tfkdfn>bibs: if you python -c"import gnomeapplet" it returns an error saying the module doesn't exist right?
[15:15]<zzzuzf_wjzc>how can I update portage to portage-2.1_pre7-r4?
[15:15]<sfudsxd|2j2>I've got a Gentoo Challenge for you guys, Who's up for it?
[15:15]<tfkdfn>nagual_work: why the old version, _rc2 is out now
[15:16]<zzzuzf_wjzc>TFKyle: ok, how do I update it to the latest version?
[15:16]<zzzuzf_wjzc>TFKyle: or tell what verison I am using now
[15:16]<scdlxdz>nagual_work emerge --sync and then emerge portage
[15:16]<scdlxdz>or to check your current version emerge -vp portage
[15:16]<tfkdfn>nagual_work: if you're running stable add sys-apps/portage ~arch (where arch is your arch, x86 for example) to /etc/portage/package.keywords then emerge -u portage
[15:16]<tfkdfn>nagual_work: emerge --sync first ofcourse
[15:16]<ssg>hi
[15:16]<2y2s>TFKyle: ImportError: No module named gnomeapplet yes
[15:17]<ssg>anyone using the newest nvidia-kernel ?
[15:17]<tfkdfn>ssn: I am, but I havn't actually reloaded the module yet so I'm really running an older nvidia-kernel :)
[15:17]<ssg>im unable to use opengl, it is very slow
[15:17]<tfkdfn>bibs: emerge gnome-python-desktop
