[16:31]<dyaggyw>is there no compiling the system, when I use stage3
[16:31]<dyaggyw>?
[16:31]<rmrmyj>or ter-v20b
[16:32]<gnncj>mijenix, less compiling than if you used something like a stage1.
[16:32]<dyaggyw>neeko: hmm but when this comes?
[16:32]<dyaggyw>neeko: following the handbook now I configure the kernel?
[16:33]<dyaggyw>neeko: after that it's compiling?
[16:33]<gnncj>right.
[16:33]<rmrmyj>mijenix: you can use a GRP install
[16:33]<tfkdfn>nice amadio, /me sets his default consolefont to it
[16:33]<m1ne_wjzc>can you find "mac address" from ip address?
[16:33]<dycnzzvxuz>can anyone tell how how to adjust the console blanking time?
[16:33]<rmrmyj>mijenix: it will use pkgs from the CD
[16:33]<rggjgg>mikearthur: man setterm?
[16:33]<dyaggyw>amadio: ?
[16:34]<dyaggyw>amadio: i use the minimal cd
[16:34]<dyaggyw>and stage3
[16:34]<dyaggyw>I only know the old stage1 install
[16:34]<rmrmyj>mijenix: then I think there is no way to escape some compilation
[16:34]<rmrmyj>mijenix: lots, actually :)
[16:35]<rmrmyj>TFKyle: nice, I like the font a lot, it's much more readable
[16:35]<dyaggyw>amadio: but know I follow the handbook and there is only stage3 install
[16:35]<pupvmupm>lol
[16:35]<tfkdfn>amadio: 20 is a bit big though don't you think? :)
[16:36]<rmrmyj>mijenix: mmm, give me some time, I will point you to the place of the GRP stuff
[16:36]<dyaggyw>amadio: GRP?
[16:36]<rmrmyj>TFKyle: it depends on the size of your screen
[16:36]<tfkdfn>true
[16:36]<rmrmyj>mijenix: yes, just a min
[16:36]<pugcdhrv>If I emerge a bunch of packages using the --oneshot option and some of them are in my world file, they won't be removed from the world file will they?
[16:36]<dyaggyw>amadio: i'm here 7. Configuring the Kernel
[16:36]<tfkdfn>I'm only using 1024x768 on my fb's here
[16:36]<rggjgg>funkyHat: shouldn't
[16:37]<pugcdhrv>good good
[16:40]<rmrmyj>TFKyle: my monitor is 1280x1024 at work
[16:40]<ma2gggyg>amadio: what terminus font ver. are you using
[16:40]<rmrmyj>TFKyle: but I use ter-v32b to play nethack, full screen mode :)
[16:41]<rmrmyj>djbeenie: 4.20
[16:41]<mzzvxljzm>hi guys...how to get a file share from windows xp?
[16:42]<]zzydd[>I can't view Japanese in my gtk file selection windows anymore, does anyone know what might have happened?
[16:42]<rmrmyj>mijenix: I think that if you download the package and universal CD to install gentoo, you can just copy the packages from the CD and use the -k option with emerge to use the binary install
[16:43]<dyaggyw>amadio: I'll follow the handbook
[16:43]<dyaggyw>amadio: that should be right :)
[16:43]<rmrmyj>mijenix: you will have then to compile the packages you update
[16:43]<rmrmyj>mijenix: it will probably have something to explain about this at some point
[16:43]<rmrmyj>mijenix: but compilation time doesn't take *that* much...
[16:44]<pcgg>hi
[16:44]<ma2gggyg>amadio: hmmm what version as in "ter-112n" not sure what to use here. I have tons here
[16:44]<pcgg>I have a strange issue with kdm : it doesnt start normally and i am forced to killall it and then to type kdm to make it start
[16:45]<rmrmyj>]grimm[: does your gtk font have jap encoding in it? I recommend using a font in utf8
[16:45]<pcgg>the problem comes with the last etc-update i have done but i dont remember the name of the files i modified
[16:45]<]zzydd[>amadio: it does
[16:45]<rmrmyj>djbeenie: less /usr/share/consolefonts/README.terminus
[16:46]<]zzydd[>amadio: something broke during a recent world update
[16:46]<rmrmyj>]grimm[: does what?
[16:46]<]zzydd[>amadio: the gtk font I've selected has Japanese encoding in it
[16:46]<pcgg>then i would like to know if there is a command to watch the name of the previously modified etc-updated files
[16:47]<rmrmyj>]grimm[: I see, I don't know, but you can have emerged something with USE set in cmd line that got overwritten during the upgrade
[16:47]<pcgg>and if someone know what could be the problem it would be kind to help me
[16:48]<mzzvxljzm>hi guys..i need help..just new to linux..how to get a windows file share?
[16:48]<rmrmyj>fken: I have been having problems also with gdm, my keyboard doesn't work at first gdm start...
[16:48]<rmrmyj>fken: maybe a bug in X? I don't know
[16:48]<uscyn>DarthLord install smb aka samba
[16:48]<pcgg>it worked before i etc-update
[16:49]<gnncj>DarthLord, the program name is samba. http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/articles/samba-p1.xml
[16:49]<rmrmyj>DarthLord: and add the swat use flag to be able to configure through your browser
[16:49]<mzzvxljzm>ah..ok.
[16:49]<mzzvxljzm>thanks
[16:49]<pcgg>DarthLord: are you speaking about network ?
[16:49]<gnncj>amadio, usbkeyboard? and does your keyboard work at the terminal level?
[16:50]<rmrmyj>neeko: laptop, and yes, the keyboard works at terminal
[16:50]<mzzvxljzm>fken,yes
[16:50]<pcgg>ok then
[16:51]<rmrmyj>neeko: I just press lots of keys at the same time, and the gdm crashes, and when it comes back, it works o_O
[16:51]<gnncj>amadio, O.o
[16:51]<rmrmyj>very strange
[16:51]<pcgg>amadio but m pb is different
[16:51]<fgxdrgg>hi folks
[16:52]<rmrmyj>fken: what happens?
[16:52]<rmrmyj>fken: I mean, when you start kdm
[16:53]<fgxdrgg>i have a problem : when trying to perform a world update , i get an compile error about a certain package. now i unmerged this package, but still when i do world update i get the same error about the same (deinstalled) package. how can this be?
[16:53]<pcgg>amadio: nvidia screen is displayed for a long long time and then i come back to the console
[16:53]<rmrmyj>lehmann: isn't it some blocking?
[16:54]<rmrmyj>fken: what
[16:54]<rmrmyj>ooops
[16:54]<fgxdrgg>what do you mean with blocking?
[16:54]<rmrmyj>fken: what's if you just do startx from console?
[16:54]<pcgg>it sent me to xdm
[16:55]<pcgg>however i didnt kill kdm bfore
[16:55]<rmrmyj>lehmann: package blocking by portage. does it say something like 'packages cannot be installed in the same system'?
[16:55]<fgxdrgg>no
[16:55]<fgwgv>anyone of you using eclipse?
[16:55]<fgxdrgg>it says like "!!! ERROR: dev-db/libpq-8.1.3-r1 failed" and so on
[16:56]<rmrmyj>lehmann: sorry, I don't know what can have caused it, can you send the error before this?
[16:58]<fgxdrgg>amadio: sure, here it is http://rafb.net/paste/results/RMrfny71.html
[16:59]<nxnnnnnj>Did something weird just happend with portage? I did an emerge --sync, and now `emerge sys-apps/portage --pretend` says it will install a crapload of N[ew] pacakges, all of which are already installed.
[17:00]<rmrmyj>lehmann: do you have multiple cpus?
[17:00]<fgxdrgg>amadio: nope
[17:00]<uscyn>charzero updates maybe?
[17:00]<nxnnnnnj>uskie: They are all N, not U
