[19:11]<zryfc>hehe
[19:11]<zzzuzf_wjzc>http://rafb.net/paste/results/wV8RA748.html
[19:11]<mcy>railk, they'll be eth0 and eth1
[19:11]<zryfc>they are
[19:11]<]jlggvrcr[>SimAtWork, general, just desktop usage such like starting firefox, playing some crappy games
[19:11]<scdlxdz>hi all - I've got some extreme weirdness here - I've got a whole bunch of identical machines I've been imaging without problems. Now when I try build a new kernel (or even rebuild the same one they were running) after copying it won't boot on anything except for the machine it was originally compiled on. Any ideas on this?
[19:11]<zjznztt>stefanr, most get created when you first run an application
[19:11]<vnzanf>stefanr: those usualy contain application settings and stuff
[19:11]<[nwr]>plz anyone responsible for nethack/slashem/noegnud here? need some ebuild/confifgure help
[19:12]<vnzanf>stefanr: you don't want them created by defauly for everybody
[19:12]<rmrgvn>is there a way to change which output my video uses (d-sub/dvi) in the console? everytime i exit X, DVI displays a screwed up image, i can't figureo ut how to get 'back' to d-sub output
[19:12]<dzrrjs>roger55, i think it was KEYWORDS="~x86"
[19:12]<svgpzgz>roger55, i see, makes sense, but i cant even start gnome :P
[19:12]<yzvzzzyz>im on a knoppix live CD..
[19:12]<dzrrjs>cause now it works
[19:12]<dzrrjs>:P
[19:12]<sydavwjzc>]opentaka[: doubtful.
[19:12]<zjznztt>Dragos, ah you mean masked by: ~keyword ?
[19:12]<sydavwjzc>]opentaka[: but then, you can never have too much ram.
[19:12]<dzrrjs>yes
[19:12]<yzvzzzyz>im trying to put this gparted iso onto a thumbdrive so i can repartion my drive and install linux proper..
[19:12]<zryfc>is ifplugd the module for detecting newly plugged in/unplugged ethernet connections?
[19:12]<svgpzgz>tercel, im not sure i understand what you men at first
[19:12]<svgpzgz>ment*
[19:12]<zjznztt>Intangir, you can install gentoo from knoppix
[19:13]<hrednrg__>hi, i've just finished to install gentoo 2006.0, i've 2 ethernet cards: 1 onboard and 1 pci. on the livecd, eth0 was the card on the mobo and i don't know if eth1 was detected, now eth0 is the pci card and the mobo card isn't detected. can you help me plz?
[19:13]<]jlggvrcr[>SimAtWork, yea, maybe i might mount the /libs to the ram and playaround with it :P
[19:13]<zjznztt>Dragos, you unmask it then: echo net-dialup/speedtouch-usb >> /etc/portage/package.keywords
[19:13]<vnzanf>stefanr: like... .xmms contains configuration data for xmms, .gnome contains configuration data for gnome, etcetera. applications that need those files create them
[19:13]<mcy>HazyNRG__, havent got the right drivers selected in your kernel?
[19:13]<dzrrjs>roger55, it's working now ...thanks
[19:14]<zjznztt>Dragos, this will add an entry for net-dialup/speedtouch-usb into /etc/portage/package.keywords and by doing so unmask ebuilds of net-dialup/speedtouch-usb that are marked with the ~x86 or whatever your arch is keyword
[19:14]<vnzanf>stefanr: is there actualy a problem you are having? or do you just want all your home dirs to look the same?
[19:14]<dzrrjs>roger55, one more thing please
[19:14]<sydavwjzc>]opentaka[: i'd let linux do it's caching thing and not do anything like that...
[19:14]<dzrrjs>" IMPORTANT: 3 config files in /etc need updating." how can i do this?
[19:14]<hrednrg__>Mki: ok, thanks
[19:14]<dzrrjs>update etc?
[19:14]<zjznztt>Dragos, etc-update or dispatch-conf
[19:15]<dzrrjs>ok...thanks for all....
[19:15]<zjznztt>Dragos, be careful and look at the differences it will show you
[19:15]<svgpzgz>tercel, no, my problem is i cant start Gnome ..it complaints about bad configuration and so.. which i understand since none of the config files are in the users homedir.
[19:15]<yzvzzzyz>roger55: i want to install ubuntu
[19:15]<rmrgvn>what is the trick to defining modes in X? if i don't define any, it comes up as 1024x768. if i try to define any, it comes up as 800x600 only
[19:15]<yzvzzzyz>but first i have to repartition my drive to make room
[19:15]<zjznztt>Intangir, and how is that ontopic in here?
[19:15]<yzvzzzyz>well im on a linux live CD now, you guys are the only linux channel that isnt full of afk or retards
[19:16]<gyvzrd_>is it normal that a 'normal' system user by default cannot access the cdrom ?
[19:16]<zjznztt>Intangir, this is the gentoo linux support channel and not #ubuntu
[19:16]<vnzanf>stefanr: mmm... it should create those files itself. something else is wrong
[19:16]<yzvzzzyz>im not to that part yet anyway
[19:16]<mjcvjznrs>nitram_: you must be in cdrom groups
[19:16]<mcy>adante, in the Screen section, do a Modes line with the resolution you want listed first
[19:17]<svgpzgz>yes. i get many different errors... wired, the root works fine
[19:17]<svgpzgz>root user that is..
[19:17]<zjznztt>Intangir, afaik ubuntu can let you resize partitions, if unsure ask in #ubuntu
[19:17]<yzvzzzyz>mkay
[19:17]<rmrgvn>Mki: can i not simply use some generic modes for 1024x768, 800x600 etc..?
[19:17]<myeylejz>hi again... i ran this command: ifconfig eth0 192.168.0.1 broadcast 192.168.0.255 netmask 255.255.255.0 up (no output)
[19:18]<zjznztt>Mizipzor, and?
[19:18]<rmrgvn>Mki: i seem to recall being to do this with a previous computer is all
[19:18]<mcy>adante, i dont know what you mean by generic modes..
[19:18]<myeylejz>then i ran: route add default gw 192.168.0.1... but then i got: SIOCADDRT: network is down
[19:18]<zjznztt>Mizipzor, in general no output means it was successful.
[19:18]<rmrgvn>Mki: well on my previous system i was able to simply do Modes "1024x768" "800x600" "640x480"
[19:18]<rmrgvn>Mki: and it would allow me to use those (without defining any modelines)
[19:19]<mcy>adante, that's what i said you should do..
[19:19]<zjznztt>Mizipzor, er you want to set your default gateway to your local ethernet card?
[19:19]<rmrgvn>Mki: right, sorry i thought meant do a modeline
[19:19]<rmrgvn>Mki: well afer doing that, it doesn't work
[19:19]<mcy>adante, they're not in the display bit for the DefaultDepth that's selected?
[19:19]<ryaxg>Intangir, you could also use the GParted Live CD, which provides a graphical interface, to reconfigure your partitions beforehand
[19:19]<myeylejz>roger55: oh sorry, in the first command, i set my own ip to 192.168.0.108
[19:20]<zryfc>how can i get gentoo to attempt to connect to certain networks at startup?
[19:20]<rmrgvn>Mki: i don't understand the question sorry?
[19:20]<zryfc>(wireless)
[19:20]<rmrgvn>Mki: my screen section is http://rafb.net/paste/results/wKKs0148.html
[19:20]<gyvzrd_>doktoreas ; usermod -G group user ?
[19:20]<zjznztt>Mizipzor, does 'ifconfig' show an eth0 ?
[19:20]<mcy>adante, mind doing a pastebin of 'Section "Screen"' from your xorg.conf?
[19:20]<mcy>adante, mm.. ta :P
[19:21]<yzvzzzyz>RichG: ya thats what i wanted to boot off my usb drive
[19:21]<yzvzzzyz>no luck though
[19:21]<zjznztt>railk, read /etc/conf.d/net.example ?
[19:21]<mcy>adante, try without the _60
[19:21]<yzvzzzyz>i ran an old version off this live CD..
[19:21]<yzvzzzyz>hopefully it worked? it hasnt returned anything yet
[19:21]<rmrgvn>Mki: sorry.. thats actually new.. i did try it with Modes "1024x768" "800x600" "640x480" previously.. it didn't work either
[19:21]<rmrgvn>Mki: going to dig up the log..
[19:21]<myeylejz>roger55: yes... and an eth1 (which i removed with ifconfgi eth1 down, its not the one im using) and a lo device
[19:21]<zjznztt>Mizipzor, I guess that your eth1 is your network card and eth0 is a firewire device
[19:21]<ryaxg>railk, if you use wpa_supplicant, check /etc/wpa_supplicant.conf.example
[19:22]<zjznztt>Mizipzor, try the same with eth1 instead
[19:22]<mrge|>I need help. upon a reboot I get: /lib/rcscripts/sh/rc-services.sh: line 22: /var/lib/init.d/deptree: no such file or directory Dependency info missing! Please run /sbin/depscan.sh to fix this
[19:22]<myeylejz>roger55: i just ran the two commands i stated above again... not route add default gw didnt fail... but i cant ping www.google.com... just the local computers
[19:22]<mcy>adante, i dont know if tv's can do 24bit colours
[19:22]<hrednrg__>do you think the "Intel(R) PRO/100+ support" ethernet driver is good for an "Intel Corporation 82801BA/BAM/CA/CAM" ethernet controller?
[19:22]<myeylejz>roger55: ill try that tahnks
[19:22]<mrge|>I run depscan.sh, it exits silently, but it doesn't fix it
