[22:05]<yzvzzzyz>all my icons are kinda jagged
[22:05]<yzvzzzyz>isnt there some software you can use that smooths fonts out and stuff?
[22:05]<yzvzzzyz>some fonts are smooth, some are ugly
[22:05]<yzvzzzyz>like fonts on menus are ugly, some on firefox are smoothed looking
[22:06]<xdfan>i think it depends on the font
[22:06]<mzcxzgmzz>fatpelt: The card seems to work fine in 32bit systems, and with 2G os RAM or less. That doesn't explain your case, though.
[22:06]<frvfnfv>DrChandra: yeah. i saw the thread on the 4gb problem. tried the iommu and swiotlb to no fix. i'm worried it is a bios incompatibility. i've had to use http://acpi.sourceforge.net/index.html to get the sata up
[22:07]<mzcxzgmzz>fatpelt: What's your BIOS?
[22:07]<zdzddcnd>im trying to load ..gentoo stage 1....but i get this error...you did not enter a stage tarball URI
[22:07]<axzjg>what could cause my mouse and everything to be so choppy
[22:07]<axzjg>when only little tasks hapen, i have a fast comp too
[22:08]<frvfnfv>DrChandra: http://www.msi.com.tw/program/products/mainboard/mbd/pro_mbd_detail.php?UID=702 it's an ami
[22:10]<mzcxzgmzz>fatpelt: What kind of slot is the e1000 plugged into? Maybe move it to a 32-bit slot.
[22:11]<frvfnfv>DrChandra: it's already in a 32bit slot unfortunately
[22:11]<frvfnfv>DrChandra: i'm contemplating picking up a pci-e 1x card. do you think that'd even work?
[22:11]<mzcxzgmzz>fatpelt: Hmmm. This smells like a memory partitioning or PCI BAR register thing. I'd start with the kernel driver though.
[22:12]<mzcxzgmzz>fatpelt: nm. Follow the mail threads for this that you see in google.
[22:13]<frvfnfv>DrChandra: ok. so would you suggest i post this to the lkml ?
[22:13]<pznnrrac>Anyone here using an old SB16 for one of thier sound cards?
[22:13]<mzcxzgmzz>fatpelt: Dunno about the pci-e card, but it will probably be a better match. the e1000 seems like it wants to live in an older world.
[22:13]<mzcxzgmzz>fatpelt: I think it's already posted there.
[22:14]<frvfnfv>DrChandra: i saw the post on the 4gb limit issue already. i haven't found one yet on someone with 2gb
[22:14]<svgfxgfvjg>anyone running mythv? i'd like a recommendation for a video input device
[22:14]<mzcxzgmzz>fatpelt: Yeah, http://lkml.org/lkml/2005/12/19/144
[22:14]<pznnrrac>Trying to get midi playback to work. But the kernel isnt setting up the sequencer device for some reason.
[22:15]<pznnrrac>Any tips?
[22:15]<frvfnfv>DrChandra: yeah, that's the one that i saw. everyone there has 4gb.
[22:15]<srmnm>Does my # ps -A look like it has any problems?
[22:15]<mzcxzgmzz>fatpelt: I mean, yeah, someone posted about it, not yeah, that link is 2G.
[22:15]<srmnm>Posting it
[22:15]<frvfnfv>DrChandra: as that thread is so old though i guess i'll just re-submit :)
[22:16]<svgfxgfvjg>anyone running mythv? i'd like a recommendation for a video input device
[22:16]<mzcxzgmzz>fatpelt: I think the card has a 32 vs 64 bit problem, and 4G of RAM forces it to appear. Othe memory layouts can cause it too, so 4G isn't required.
[22:16]<aacn__>what files does gentoo use to config wifi cards? especially the files that contain settings for ath0??
[22:16]<srmnm>Does my ps -A look like it has any problems? I am running Xchat, one terminal and one instance of Mozilla Firefox http://pastebin.ca/58874
[22:16]<mzcxzgmzz>fatpelt: March 29th is old?
[22:17]<mullnr>hi ... can a x86_64 kernel image be built from a 32 bit environment?
[22:17]<pznnrrac>Or who here is using alsa?
[22:17]<mcy>Acke__, look at /etc/conf.d/wireless.example
[22:17]<wjzcrlxj2yr>Who isn't using alsa. I thought it was fairly widespread by now.
[22:17]<frvfnfv>DrChandra: last post i see is january
[22:17]<srmnm>Does my ps -A look like it has any problems? I am running Xchat, one terminal and one instance of Mozilla Firefox http://pastebin.ca/58874
[22:18]<aacn__>mki ty
[22:18]<sdfvrgvxys>Muller: you would need a 64 bit gcc compiler
[22:18]<pznnrrac>Workaphobia: I can get sound to work with both OSS and ALSA, but not midi playback.
[22:18]<mzcxzgmzz>Check Markus Mueller's posts. He's got it going on with 512MB RAM: http://www.spinics.net/lists/linux-net/msg14218.html
[22:19]<wjzcrlxj2yr>Mki: That file, what is it intended to be used by? I always set up my wireless with dhcpcd and ifconfig up, since I never got an initscript generated for it
[22:19]<wjzcrlxj2yr>freejack: Ah, I know nothing of midi playback.... Sorry
[22:19]<ryaxg>is there any way to bypass some Portage access violations when merging, but not all?
[22:19]<frvfnfv>DrChandra: ah yeah. that's the ticket
[22:19]<gxor>prelink is the superest
[22:20]<gxor>like very kool and stuff
[22:20]<gxor>:P
[22:20]<pznnrrac>Workaphobia: Well, for some reason the kernel isn't setting up the sequencer device (under /dev) and I'm trying to figure out why.
[22:20]<mcy>Workaphobia, that's just got examples... if you use just dhcp and dont need encryption, all you need is to create a symlink to net.lo in /etc/init.d/ (like net.eth0), then add that to a runlevel
[22:20]<wjzcrlxj2yr>what about the also device? Is there a recognized pcm for it?
[22:20]<wjzcrlxj2yr>or do midi devices not use pcm.. Dunno
[22:20]<rmzyrrg>can someone help me, what package to emerge when i want to open .doc files?
[22:21]<pznnrrac>Workaphobia: You mean /dev/alsa?
[22:21]<wnff_frffd>how can i check to see if my install CD is 64bit or 32bit?
[22:21]<tfkdfn>Adriaan: kword, abiword (which for some reason is breaking for me with some doc files), or openoffice
[22:21]<rmzyrrg>can someone tell me what package to emerge, if i want to open files created with windows office?
[22:21]<dyrdrr>Adriaan, kword, abiword or openoffice for instance.
[22:21]<wjzcrlxj2yr>not in /dev, I mean the alsalib name, like hw:0,0 is a device
[22:21]<affggjb>Adriaan: koffice or openoffice will open .doc files, amount others
[22:22]<mzcxzgmzz>fatpelt: A lot of good info in that post.
[22:22]<rmzyrrg>lol three almost the same replies :)
[22:22]<mzcxzgmzz>fatpelt: I wonder if the ACPI is in the way, on one of the interrupts or something.
[22:22]<rmzyrrg>thanks
[22:23]<sdfvrgvxys>can someone help me with my net again? my config file looks like this, i can work internally, but not externally, so i cannot acces the internet, http://pastebin.com/737766
[22:23]<pznnrrac>Workaphobia: Checking...
[22:23]<frvfnfv>DrChandra: quite possible. the only way that i'll be able to test that is to use a livecd as the sata controller wont run at all if i disable acpi.
[22:23]<wjzcrlxj2yr>freejack: You might be able to gather some info in the /proc/alsa directory. It should have some info about your card and the subdevices it knows of. I'm not sure what in particular you need to check to learn about your MIDI device though
[22:23]<dyaggyw>why my radeon framebuffer don't work?
[22:23]<frvfnfv>DrChandra: i like the motherboard but it is kinda crappy
[22:24]<pznnrrac>Workaphobia: Be right back.
[22:24]<mcy>sylvanthis, you'll probably need to setup a nameserver too
[22:24]<sfudsxd|2j2>If I was to buy a pcmcia wireless (802.11g) card for my laptop, what one would be the best one with gentoo in mind?
[22:24]<sdfvrgvxys>resolv.conf?
[22:24]<mcy>sylvanthis, yeh
[22:24]<sdfvrgvxys>it looks like this
[22:24]<uscyn>Squishy|Bob take a look in make menuconfig :)
[22:24]<sdfvrgvxys>nameserver 62.251.0.6
[22:24]<sdfvrgvxys>nameserver 62.251.0.7
[22:24]<sdfvrgvxys>well actaully
[22:25]<sdfvrgvxys>it gets overwritten because i used dhcp to acces the internet
[22:25]<dyaggyw>does all ATI cards support the radeon framebuffer?
[22:25]<mcy>sylvanthis, can you ping those ips?
[22:25]<sdfvrgvxys>so it was another one
[22:25]<sfudsxd|2j2>uskie: I haven't access to that at the moment :-o
[22:25]<mcy>sylvanthis, mm... why are you manually specifing ip's if you're using dhcp?
[22:25]<sdfvrgvxys>now i can, cause i used dhcp, i m in my friends house atm with my laptop
[22:25]<sdfvrgvxys>no
[22:25]<sdfvrgvxys>but can i do that?
[22:26]<sdfvrgvxys>cause that would solve my prob
[22:26]<sdfvrgvxys>cuase i need to set the internal ips
[22:26]<sdfvrgvxys>exteranl i dont know
[22:26]<mcy>sylvanthis, i'd try 'echo nameserver 10.0.0.138 >> /etc/resolv.conf', if that's the ip of your router box
[22:26]<sdfvrgvxys>yea it is
[22:27]<mzcxzgmzz>fatpelt: It might be worth the reboot to see if no ACPI allows the card to work. THen you know that tuning ACPI might fix it.
