[01:21]<rjrvdrfn>still didnt work :(
[01:21]<fuggdljjcyghrv>micahcowan, i see that, can't see how to add tho
[01:21]<mjjrrssj>Okay, so I tried putting "xmodmap -e "pointer = 1 2 3 4 5 10 11 6 7"" in a .xsession file, and x wouldn't open up anymore
[01:21]<ngvnznw>goatmale, How did it "not work"? What "didn't work"?
[01:21]<lzjpjx`>TheUni: no crash in 2 weeks? sounds like it's getting better.. beta 2 ?
[01:21]<rjrvdrfn>i am still getting errors with wine
[01:21]<sxzdzjac_uc>@Enverex, have you install gmplayer? mplayer on its own isn't integrated with gnome
[01:21]<txgugy>profoX`: yup. And Office 2007 B2. Connecting to an exchange server and syncing my smartphone
[01:21]<lzjpjx`>TheUni: do you have to solve linux problems sometimes ? lol
[01:22]<ngvnznw>shamrock_uk, I have the basic GUI, I'll check
[01:22]<txgugy>profoX`: not once. lol
[01:22]<lzjpjx`>TheUni: :'(
[01:22]<rjrvdrfn>how do I register my nick>
[01:22]<dyrrxrjwrg>FunnyLookinHat: probably gconftool-2, also? Might look at the other values in existence to see what they should look like...
[01:22]<sxzdzjac_uc>if its a gui, it's not just mplayer :)
[01:22]<lzjpjx`>TheUni: you like windows vista ?
[01:22]<ngvnznw>goatmale, Type "wine --version" in the console please and paste the output here
[01:22]<txgugy>profoX`: but i'm running it for the same reason. Want to know as many os's as possible
[01:22]<lzjpjx`>goatmale: /msg nickserv register password
[01:22]<rjrvdrfn>Wine 0.9.17
[01:22]<sxzdzjac_uc>can you just add it with the menu editor?
[01:22]<fuggdljjcyghrv>micahcowan, ahh, i figured out how to add... but the remove doens't seem to work, haha. oh well I'll keep messing with it
[01:22]<lgjgjw>I need some help with xmodmap, I have a laptop with us keyboard, but I speak spanish so I need the dead_diaeresis, I'm trying something like this xmodmap -e 'keysym u = u U dead_diaeresis' and I have the windows key and the Alt_L like AltGr, but it doesn't work
[01:22]<pyvzn>if I kill apt-get via ctrl+z, how can I unlock /var/lib/dpkg/ ?
[01:23]<dyrrxrjwrg>Moocasso: What does .xsession-errors say in it?
[01:23]<yddn>fivre: you don't kill with Ctrl+z
[01:23]<ngvnznw>goatmale, If you don't have anything important installed in Wine, run this - "rm -r ~/.wine && wineprefixcreate"
[01:23]<pyvzn>so I see
[01:23]<sxzdzjac_uc>@fivre - you haven't killed it, simply stopped it and sent it to the background. issue fg 1 to get it back
[01:23]<lgjgjw>:(
[01:23]<scrvrrrr>fivre: ctrl+z is suspend
[01:23]<txgugy>profoX`: it's nothing to write home about. no major changes i can see. IE7 is decent, but still IE. i've ended up using firefox as default again. Only major change is the security system. It has a screen kinda like ubuntu every time you need to do something root-like. A nice change, but will be confusing for home users
[01:23]<lzjpjx`>TheUni: just out of interest, because i haven't run windows in a while.. do you think vista is better than let's say, ubuntu ? and if yes, in what ways?
[01:23]<pyvzn>ah
[01:23]<pyvzn>ok
[01:23]<scrvrrrr>!offtopic
[01:23]<u2jvu>#ubuntu is the Ubuntu support channel, #ubuntu+1 supports the development version of Ubuntu and #ubuntu-offtopic is for random chatter. Welcome!
[01:24]<mjjrrssj>er...is it too late for me to check that or is there a file somewhere for that?
[01:24]<rjrvdrfn>enverex can you see my PMs?
[01:24]<ngvnznw>goatmale, Yeah, sorry
[01:24]<ngvnznw>goatmale, If you don't have anything important installed in Wine, run this - "rm -r ~/.wine && wineprefixcreate" <
[01:24]<lgjgjw>I need some help with xmodmap, I have a laptop with us keyboard, but I speak spanish so I need the dead_diaeresis, I'm trying something like this xmodmap -e 'keysym u = u U dead_diaeresis' and I have the windows key and the Alt_L like AltGr, but it doesn't work
[01:24]<mjjrrssj>oh, found it
[01:24]<lzjpjx`>TheUni: i know for a fact that everything new in vista is just ripped from os x, linux and even *bsd :) but i don't care, if they can make it work good..
[01:25]<txgugy>profoX`: that's not fair. Apples to Oranges. and you'd have to give me context. For me, connecting to an exchange server and syncing a smartphone are so complicated in ubuntu that they're not worth doing
[01:25]<mrvym__>im trying to help my wife with creating a resume, does anyone know where i can download a template for openoffice?
[01:25]<lgjgjw>:( i'm getting mad...
[01:25]<txgugy>but for everyday use, i prefer linux.
[01:25]<mjjrrssj>just copy and paste micahcowan?
[01:25]<xzzzd>I just read USN-308-1 (shadow vulnerability). Is debian also affected?
[01:25]<dyrrxrjwrg>Moocasso: oh, but if you're running X now, it might not be for that session anymore.
[01:25]<mjjrrssj>oh, k
[01:25]<zyzzzzm>repost from last night... i'm having the same problems as detailed here (but on 6.06 SERVER edition): http://ubuntuforums.org/archive/index.php/t-4031.html <----- 2nd post: It has sat there for over an hour with the blue screen, a gray bar at the bottom, and one black rectangle in the far low left corner.
[01:25]<dyrrxrjwrg>When it stopped working, did you remove that line and come back in?
[01:25]<mjjrrssj>yeah, I deleted the .xsession file and restarted
[01:25]<lzjpjx`>TheUni: thats why i said, in what ways.. windows can be better for certain things, ubuntu for other things
[01:25]<mrvym__>Ive loooked and all i find is links to other thinbgs
[01:25]<zrpp>Does anyone know of a wireless pci card that works well in 6.06 and is easy to set up?
[01:26]<fjlxdvn>Zaff: I have a Ralink-based card that works excellently
[01:26]<rjrvdrfn>enverex?
[01:26]<sxzdzjac_uc>@Zaff - anything with an atheros chipset works good
[01:27]<zyndj_vxn_zznrvw>all of a sudden when I run glxgears it causes gnome to log me out. Any ideas?
[01:27]<mjjrrssj>I found a site that suggested a .bashrc would be useful in situations sorta similar to this, is there a reason that wouldn't work?
[01:27]<ngvnznw>goatmale, 1 sec
[01:27]<txgugy>profoX`: in general, it's more decent than i thought it would be. seems like the final version may actually be ok, even if it's not much different than xp. any particular question?
[01:27]<dyrrxrjwrg>Moocasso: okay... I'm very surprised that it didn't work in the .xsession file. Try two things: change "xmodmap" in your .xsession command to "/usr/X11R6/bin/xmodmap", and if it fails again, make a copy of the .xsession-errors file before you come back up.
[01:27]<dzzagfygj>where is the best place to store a shell script you have written to automate a task--in your home directory or under bin?
[01:27]<mjjrrssj>Okay, back in a few :)
[01:28]<dyrrxrjwrg>Moocasso: .bashrc shouldn't be what you want: it runs whenever a shell does. Not all shells run in X, and X programs themselves don't run in shells (typically).
[01:28]<lzjpjx`>TheUni: no, i tried to install it on a test pc, but it messed up my partitions without even starting the installation.. that was beta 2
[01:28]<sxzdzjac_uc>I'd say your home directory, greater chance of you not deleting it between reinstalls
[01:28]<txgugy>hah.. yikes
[01:28]<lzjpjx`>TheUni: guess i'll try it on another pc sometime
[01:28]<dzzagfygj>thx
[01:28]<txgugy>home my other partition is still ok
[01:28]<txgugy>haven't tried to boot back to linux
[01:28]<txgugy>*hope
[01:28]<lgjgjw>micahcowan: could you help me with a problem that i have with xmodmap?
[01:28]<vr_>i just installed "console-terminus" and "xfonts-terminus" - i wanna use terminus in .Xdefaults for rxvt, but it isn't working. do i need to rebuild the font cache or something?
[01:29]<rjgdjd>marcelino: I put it in /usr/local/bin if I want it to be in the path and the scrpt can be used at any location. if it only converts the image in the a specific directory i put it in the dir somwhere in home
[01:29]<txgugy>profoX`: you be here for a minute? i'm gonna reinstall grub and come back here in ubuntu, might need help getting back to windows
[01:29]<rjgdjd>marcelino: this doens't answer your question, it's just the way I do it
[01:29]<dzzagfygj>rondom thanks for the info
[01:30]<scrvrrrr>VR_: you running kde, gnome?
[01:30]<dyrrxrjwrg>Leonox: I'll be happy to try. :)
[01:30]<u2ugvu_>Hi everybody, I have a probleml
[01:30]<lzjpjx`>TheUni: yes i'll be here, you can also pm me if i don't respond, or just call my name
[01:30]<vr_>skavenge: gnome
[01:30]<txgugy>k
[01:30]<dzzagfygj>rondom usr/local/bin sounds like a good idea because i don't like the idea of cluttering up my home directory
[01:30]<txgugy>bbiam
[01:30]<zrpp>k, after all of the searching i've done at this (i've been looking for about a week now), i know that the ralink and atheros chipsets are good
[01:30]<scrvrrrr>VR_: why not just change it in 'system', 'preferred applications' then?
[01:30]<zrpp>but i cant tell which card will work the best
[01:30]<mnzncs>my courier-imap installation isn't working!
[01:30]<mnzncs>heh
[01:31]<u2ugvu_>I installed windows after Ubuntu, then had to install grub
[01:31]<yddn>micahcowan: I think Leonox fell asleep... :S :D
[01:31]<rjgdjd>marcelino: not you home-dir
[01:31]<vr_>skavenge: i'm trying to change the font for rxvt-unicode. i need to edit the .Xdefaults file to do that. i installed those two packages to get the terminus font, but it's not showing up in xfontsel
