[02:27]<mrmfyfjv>astaroth, this is why automatix is NOT recommended... it does strange stuff to people's Ubuntu installs...
[02:27]<mzzcnmwzzms>wacky, mine were rwx--x---
[02:28]<mzzcnmwzzms>thanks
[02:28]<xjfdajw>astaroth, you should be paranoid. i would recommend not using something as stupid as automatix
[02:28]<dyrrxrjwrg>Moocasso: where it says you don't have authorization, or whatnot, yeah. That's when you run startx, yes?
[02:28]<gruscy>can anyone help me getting sounds to work, Im using a Terratec card with optical output
[02:28]<2nzrau2n>markedwards~ NP!
[02:28]<mjjrrssj>Oh
[02:28]<drjdsr>hey, does anyone here has edgy installed?
[02:28]<xjfdajw>astaroth, try easyubuntu, it doesn't bypass the package manager
[02:28]<mjjrrssj>xauth: creating new authority file /home/fnar/.serverauth.8680X: user not authorized to run the X server, aborting.xinit: Server error.Couldnt get a file descriptor referring to the console
[02:28]<zsvzzjvx>holycow, god. I thought it was good, I just came back to ubuntu from arch linux..dont tell me I have to do it from the start again
[02:29]<drvncq1w>has anyone else had a problem with java?
[02:29]<xjfdajw>astaroth, basically think of it this way: the retard that created automatix doesn't have a clue adn should be shot for creating such a thing and convincing people to use it
[02:29]<rjgmj>Can one mount a cue/bin in ubuntu with fstab?
[02:29]<drjdsr>Davek23x: what king of problem?
[02:29]<xjfdajw>astaroth, well you are the one that didn't research automatix and its problems ... right?
[02:29]<zsvzzjvx>holycow, I sure didnt
[02:29]<scrvrrrr>well he got it half right, runs like glass on some machines and completely destroys others, its a 50/50 shot
[02:29]<drvncq1w>well nothing runs
[02:30]<zsvzzjvx>Is it bad to use the repo from recommended at psychocats as well? I better ask before I do a reinstall
[02:30]<tj2dk>Sanne: Eh? Ubuntu still boots fine, I only get the "Disk Error" when I try to boot windows.
[02:30]<drvncq1w>i tried java -jar program.jar and then i get an error main.class not found or something
[02:30]<xjfdajw>astaroth, recommended psychocats? whats that?
[02:30]<drjdsr>Davek23x: try running java -version, and see what you get
[02:30]<zsvzzjvx>holycow, I mean the repos that´s recommended at psychocats homepage
[02:30]<scugcdq7>hi
[02:31]<srggn>astaroth: while it may seem to be a lot of work at first, it is really beneficial if you do installing those programs by hand. There are lots of tutorials for that on the ubuntu wiki. You'll learn a lot :)
[02:31]<xjfdajw>!psychocat
[02:31]<mrmfyfjv>astaroth, URL of that?
[02:31]<u2jvu>I know nothing about psychocat - try searching http://bots.ubuntulinux.nl/factoids.cgi?db=ubuntu
[02:31]<scugcdq7>someone speak spanish????
[02:31]<drvncq1w>java version "1.4.2"
[02:31]<drvncq1w>gij (GNU libgcj) version 4.1.0 (Ubuntu 4.1.0-1ubuntu8)
[02:31]<mrmfyfjv>!es
[02:31]<u2jvu>Para Español por favor usen #ubuntu-es, #kubuntu-es o #edubuntu-es, alli obtendran mas ayuda.
[02:31]<scrvrrrr>Skunky26: #unbuntu-es
[02:31]<scrvrrrr>ubuntu even
[02:31]<scugcdq7>thanks
[02:31]<mrmfyfjv>astaroth, use https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Repositories for repo information
[02:31]<xjfdajw>astaroth, never heard of it, basically if you use any software off of the internet you need to research the source to find out if its trustworthy ... i don't know about who or what psychocat
[02:31]<zsvzzjvx>Sanne, I know how to install the stuff. But automatix sounded like a great tool. spare sp,e to,e
[02:31]<xjfdajw>is
[02:31]<drjdsr>Davek23x: have some problems with the default JVM installed on ubuntu
[02:32]<drjdsr>just install sun's jvm
[02:32]<zsvzzjvx>holycow, http://psychocats.net/ubuntu/sources.php
[02:32]<zsvzzjvx>check it out
[02:32]<srggn>TobyK: yeah, I just thought that maybe when the windows disk is the only one plugged in, it still might be needed to set it up as a boot device in the BIOS... but this may be nonsense, it's just a wild guess.
[02:32]<drvncq1w>ahh cool i was starting to worry all my favourite apps are java (which is why I am finally free of MS)
[02:32]<gruscy>err wtf, I disabled the crappy onboard audiochip from bios. and lspci still says that the multimedia audio controller is c-media plahplah
[02:32]<smsmja>Sanne, I got a question for ya, can I pm ya?
[02:32]<srggn>astaroth: ok, I see and understand. Still, I wouldn't recommend it.
[02:33]<scrvrrrr>i use the blackdown java works for me
[02:33]<drjdsr>Davek23x: the package in synaptic is sun-java5-jdk
[02:33]<xjfdajw>astaroth, those all look like ubuntu repos, therefore i would say they are fine
[02:33]<mrmfyfjv>astaroth, that doesn't look too crackish - still, https://help.ubuntu.com/community is the official Ubuntu wiki, it's the best source of info
[02:33]<dnsx>Hi, what kernel version would be best for an AMD64 running 32bit UBuntu.
[02:33]<srggn>sysdoc: hey, how're ya? pm is fine.
[02:33]<smsmja>coO
[02:33]<drjdsr>i think you need to have multiverse repos enabled
[02:33]<zsvzzjvx>Thanks guys, I will reinstall now and come back. See you
[02:34]<mjjrrssj>micahcowan: any more ideas?
[02:34]<drvncq1w>Edulix: Couldn't find package sun-java5-jdk
[02:34]<mrmfyfjv>blasted automoronix claims another install... :|
[02:34]<drvncq1w>hrmm
[02:34]<drvncq1w>ecolon
[02:34]<drvncq1w>damned shortcuts

[02:34]<srggn>sysdoc: where's your pm? ;P
[02:34]<drjdsr>Davek23x: you'll need to enable backports, universe and multivers repos
[02:35]<drvncq1w>Skunky26 make cd and boot using it
[02:35]<dyrrxrjwrg>Moocasso: yeah, sorry, was researching some...
[02:35]<gruscy>can _anyone_ help?
[02:35]<drjdsr>Davek23x: i don't remember which one has it :)
[02:35]<cxjmr>okay i just reinstalled. whats the first thing i need to do?
[02:35]<mjjrrssj>micahcowan: no problem :) Just wanted to amke sure you got the message, hehe

[02:36]<mrmfyfjv>khoda, that depends what you want to do - but starting by enabling the multimedia stuff is a good way to begin: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RestrictedFormats
