[10:25]<rrrw9>bilss_: If your script is /etc/suck/sucknewsrc then just do: sudo chmod 777 /etc/suck/newsrc...then do: sudo chown root /etc/suck/newsrc
[10:25]<2yfss_>ajax4; ok thats a good question i just installed suck with apt-get, i wonder if he is refering to the crontab line which goes like this bilss_: That changes who owns the file. So do: sudo chown OWNERNAME /etc/suck/sucknewsrc do you think its this script?
[10:25]<pzzjus>fredl: do you have the linux-restricted-modules package installed
[10:25]<gjfw1>is it true that in linux you can go to any porn site and not get a virus?
[10:26]<vxjznruluvya_>Dirge: they are handled by hal and udev IIRC
[10:26]<vzzug0>!xfce > varun0
[10:26]<dyzrn>thoreauputic_, Well it put itself in. So I wanted to edit it since it never gave mr write.
[10:26]<vxjznruluvya_>nol13: lol - yes
[10:26]<rrrw9>bilss_: My guess is that is the script if the support email used that as an example...what does it say when you type those commands?
[10:26]<vzzug0>how is installing xubuntu-desktop different from installing xfce4?
[10:26]<sxzylxrgy>how do i create a shortcut to .Trash on my desktop
[10:26]<pznmf>farous_: yup.
[10:26]<2yfss_>ajax4 : sorry about that
[10:26]<mfy>nol13, there's no virus in linux practically, just keep in mind, don't use root to surf
[10:27]<vxjznruluvya_>varun0: xubuntu-desktop has extra goodies
[10:27]<rrrw9>bilss_: its cool
[10:27]<pzzjus>fredl: perhaps its the driver then so you are using the mesa driver now?
[10:27]<rrrw9>shriphani: Do you mean you want the trashcan on your desktop?
[10:27]<vxjznruluvya_>varun0: abiword, thunar I think, xfmedia
[10:27]<vxjznruluvya_>varun0: apt-cache depends xubuntu-desktop to see
[10:27]<pznmf>farous_: how can I tell if I'm using the mesa driver?
[10:27]<vzzug0>thoreauputic_: much thanks!
[10:27]<usgzugmgpygg>Dirge, hrm, well, sorry. Maybe try the forums for someone more experienced with that setup than myself
[10:27]<2yfss_>ajax4: ok thats a good question i just installed suck with apt-get, i wonder if he is refering to the crontab line which goes like this */44 * * * * suck nntp.aioe.org -A -bp -hl localhost -c -i 200 -M -n -Q
[10:27]<pzzjus>fredl: flgrxinfo
[10:28]<pzzjus>fglrxinfo sorry
[10:28]<rrrw9>Dirge: I don't see why its not working either.
[10:28]<dyzrn>userundefine, It takes an expert to write to a USB disk??
[10:28]<pzzjus>and what is your complain again of your fglrx driver?
[10:28]<-- dyrnnprd wrs puyv> i mean the other left <-")
[10:28]<pznmf>farous_: where would you prefer seen the output of that?
[10:28]<pznmf>seeing.
[10:28]<rrrw9>Dirge: It should work out of the box
[10:28]<pzzjus>!pastebin
[10:28]<u2jvu>pastebin is a service to post large texts so you don't flood the channel. The Ubuntu pastebin is at http://paste.ubuntu-nl.org (you can always find it in the channel topic, among other useful things)
[10:28]<usgzugmgpygg>Dirge, I don't have any problems writing to them. Just trying to help...
[10:28]<pzzjus>fredl: use the pastebin
[10:29]<gjfw1>cool, but when i go there i think my java is running
[10:29]<pzzjus>fredl: and it will tell you what driver it use
[10:29]<wrrrn>what can I use for format a USB Drive from NTFS to Ext2?
[10:29]<vxjznruluvya_>Dirge: something is wrong - it should by default pop up nautilus and allow read write - is the hardware at fault perhaps?
[10:29]<dyzrn>ajax4, Nothing about ubuntu worked out of the box, I've been fighting for a month to get it working.
[10:29]<rrrw9>bilss_: That crontab line doesn't refer to your local files, so I don't think thats it
[10:29]<zpzu_dgvnz_pfd>dli: the ntfs-3g configure still says i don't have it installed
[10:29]<dyzrn>thoreauputic_, the hardware works in OSX and WIndows. So it's Ubuntu
[10:29]<pzzjus>thoreauputic_: perhaps he can not use pmount as user?
[10:29]<usgzugmgpygg>Dirge, there are other distributions. And *BSD.
[10:29]<pznmf>farous_: I cut & pasted on pastebin
[10:29]<rrrw9>Dirge: Ubuntu is hands-down the easiest distro I've ever installed or used. Sorry you're having problems with it.
[10:29]<vxjznruluvya_>Dirge: OK
[10:29]<pznmf>http://paste.ubuntu-nl.org/18576
[10:30]<vxjznruluvya_>Dirge: actually farous makes a good point - can you pmount /dev/sda1 ?
[10:30]<pznmf>farous_: so doesn't seem like I'm using the Mesa driver, correct?
[10:30]<mfy>aqau_inter_fly, apt-get install libfuse-dev
[10:30]<2yfss_>ajax4: ok i will do you suugeated before which was s_:" If your script is /etc/suck/sucknewsrc then just do: sudo chmod 777 /etc/suck/newsrc...then do: sudo chown root /etc/suck/newsrc " see what happens
[10:30]<pzzjus>fredl: it is working fine so what is the problem
[10:30]<zpzu_dgvnz_pfd>dli: i did that
[10:30]<rrrw9>Dirge: That workaround I mentioned earlier about adding users to the plugdev group. Have you tried it at least? Does it work for you?
[10:31]<dyzrn>thoreauputic_, I pmounted, same results
[10:31]<mfy>aqau_inter_fly, pastebin your commands and error messages
[10:31]<pzzjus>fredl: no you are using ati one. glxinfo |grep render
[10:31]<zpzu_dgvnz_pfd>dli: and it was successful, but ./configure for ntfs-3g still says its not there
[10:31]<zpzu_dgvnz_pfd>dli: for when i do ./configure
[10:31]<pzzjus>fredl: will give you render =yes so you have 3d accel
[10:31]<dyzrn>ajax4, That's not a solution I can use. I can't give users access to plugdev.
[10:31]<zpzu_dgvnz_pfd>?
[10:31]<rrrw9>bilss_: sudo chmod 777 /etc/suck/sucknewsrc just do that and tell me what it says
[10:31]<vxjznruluvya_>Dirge: hmm - is this the first user? Is the user in all relevant groups?
[10:31]<wrrrn>anybody able to point me in the right direction for how to format my NTFS USB Drives so that I can acctualy use them under Ubuntu? please
[10:32]<msrs>xange: by use do you mean write? if so you don't.
[10:32]<rrrw9>Dirge: I understand...however, I suggest trying it for a single user just to make sure you can get write working AT ALL.
[10:32]<dnw2yn>xange fat32
[10:32]<a-l-p-h-a>xange? format? or mount?
[10:32]<dnw2yn>fat32 is rw
[10:32]<wrrrn>dsas: thats why I said _format_
[10:32]<zpzu_dgvnz_pfd>dli: http://paste.ubuntu-nl.org/18577
[10:32]<dnw2yn>under linux
[10:32]<msrs>xange: Just use fat32
[10:32]<2yfss_>ajax4: ok just a sec
[10:32]<wrrrn>I don't care about the files that were once on there, I want them to go bye bye
[10:33]<usgzugmgpygg>xange, sudo fdisk /path/to/disk
[10:33]<dnw2yn>NTFS is read only Fat#@ and Fat16 is READ/WRITE
[10:33]<rrrw9>xange: NTFS support is buggy under Linux, use fat instead
[10:33]<wrrrn>userundefine: ty
[10:33]<mfy>aqau_inter_fly, the error message is pretty clear, you need fuse > 2.5.0
[10:33]<a-l-p-h-a>I recently read NTFS was full read/write capable... [albeit, shouldn't be used in a production environment]
[10:34]<dyzrn>ajax4, Well, that's be nice, but the permission is rwxr-xr-x So group doesn't have access either.
[10:34]<dnw2yn>alpha it is, but its terribly buggy
[10:34]<2yfss_>ajax4: ok did that curser just returned to prompt
[10:34]<a-l-p-h-a>Dewbie, fair enough.
[10:34]<rrrw9>bilss_: Try running your program and see if it works
[10:34]<dnw2yn>guaranteed rw is fat32 or fat16
[10:34]<zpzu_dgvnz_pfd>dli: yes i know, i did install a 2.5 version from the website, but i don't know what version you had me install with apt-get install
[10:34]<wrrrn>yes I know NTFS you cannot write, I don't care to use NTFS or FAT I am making the move to nix and not going back :) though is Ext2/3 comptable with OS X? I have a desktop OS X that I wouldn't mind sharing the usb drives with if I had to...
[10:34]<pznmf>farous_: yes, the card is detected alright, everything starts up fine. However at some point trashing of the screen occurs, bits and pieces get weird colors or weird characters, and eventually the system hard-hangs like it just did.
[10:35]<dnw2yn>os x is based (loosly) on linux
[10:35]<wrrrn>yeah I know, unix
[10:35]<rrrw9>Dirge: I know you unmounted but did you try unplugging and replugging?
[10:35]<a-l-p-h-a>Is there a nice way to use wifi with ubuntu? Something that will keep WPA passkeys safe, but auto connect to open wifi if available?
