[10:41]<pdznsvzvz>swim: hrmm, strange. does it work in other players?
[10:41]<dnw2yn>so then... how do I make ubunto do my laundry?
[10:41]<pzzjus>fredl: try ati driver first
[10:41]<pznmf>farous_: ok
[10:42]<rrrw9>ajopaul: Oh, for the command line one you just do: mplayer *.avi (or whatever)
[10:42]<mrmfyfjv>Dewbie, this is Linux for human beings... but not for their laundry ;)
[10:42]<swyd>fyrestrtr: well if I try to mount the dvd drive manually , I get: mount: No medium found
[10:42]<dnw2yn>blah
[10:42]<bjv_buyfmnz>ah, hehe
[10:42]<pdznsvzvz>Dewbie: get a usb cable interface to your washer and plug it in, then find the opensource drivers at whirlpool.sourceforge.net -- install them, and then go.
[10:42]<rrrw9>Corporal_Dirge: If the permissions list is "rwxrwxrwx" then any user can write to that file
[10:42]<vxjznruluvya_>swim: dud DVD? Have you tried a different one to check?
[10:42]<gjfw1>bwhahahahahahaahahahahahahahahahahAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!
[10:42]<dnw2yn>awesome
[10:43]<vxjznruluvya_>nol13: spare us
[10:43]<swyd>thoreauputic_: a different what?
[10:43]<vxjznruluvya_>swim: another DVD
[10:43]<rrrw9>Corporal_Dirge: Disregard that last one, thought I was talking to someone else in the channel.
[10:43]<pznmf>farous_: trying to remove all the restricted modules packages but I can't remove all of them it seems.
[10:44]<pzzjus>fredl: not all of them
[10:44]<sxygrcu>Hey.. having a little problem with a Compaq PCMCIA 802.11b card
[10:44]<sxygrcu>it plugs in and flashes up alright
[10:44]<sxygrcu>but when I active eth1 (it's connection) the lights just go off
[10:44]<dnw2yn>ahh yes ain't built in wireless just da bomb?
[10:44]<sxygrcu>they then blink and go off again
[10:44]<gjfw1>fredl: what brand of ram are you using?
[10:44]<sxygrcu>Dewbie, ;)
[10:44]<pzzjus>fredl: sudo aptitude purge linux-restricted-modules-$(uname -r)
[10:44]<swyd>thoreauputic_: yes I have.
[10:45]<vxjznruluvya_>swim: same result I'm assuming?
[10:45]<dnw2yn>I had to fight to get my PCMCIA wireless aircard to work
[10:45]<swyd>thoreauputic_: yes exactly the same result
[10:45]<wrrrn>inside of fdisk i run 'l' to see a list of formats and I don't see HFS am I missing somethimg (I'm sure I am, its only 3:45am)
[10:46]<usgzugmgpygg>Bot_Builder, check this out ! http://www.linuxdig.com/howto/ldp/4mb-Laptops.php
[10:46]<pdznsvzvz>xange: if you have two computers, one using osx, the other ubuntu. Just use nfs to share files between them.
[10:46]<vxjznruluvya_>xange: you normally set hfs or hfsplus in /etc/fstab - I think man fstab would tell you
[10:46]<wrrrn>I'm talking about for my 250gb usb drive
[10:46]<wrrrn>i guess i could just format them through os x, that'd make more since huh
[10:47]<swyd>any other ideas for me folks?
[10:47]<wzzf>xange: FAT, HFS, etc.
[10:47]<pdznsvzvz>xange: format it whatever you like for the pc its attached to. So if its attached to your ubuntu box, then format it with ext3. Then use nfs and share it with your osx machine. Of course, if you plan to physically move it each time, then you need other options.
[10:47]<kggsggvmg|eee>Hi, when i try to watch an online video i get a totem error: Totem could not play 'mms://streams3.omroep.nl/tv/vpro/hollandsport/bb.20031019.asf'. There is no input plugin to handle the location of this movie. I've installed w32codecs and the totem-firefox-xine-plugin.
[10:47]<rrrw9>bilss_: How is it going?
[10:47]<vxjznruluvya_>xange: any particular reason to avoid the default vfat format? It's compatible with anything ( lousy fs I admit)
[10:47]<2yfss_>ajax4: well the permissions have changed lie so --rwxrwxrwx 1 news news 122 2006-07-05 11:15 sucknewsrc
[10:47]<2yfss_> but when i do the cron run as you suggested i still get /etc/suck/sucknewsrc: Permission denied
[10:47]<2yfss_> and Moving newsrc to backup: Permission denied
[10:47]<wrrrn>the fs is the main reason
[10:48]<pznmf>farous_: when I use aptitude it tellsme some packages are broken
[10:48]<pznmf>farous_: (I usually use dpkg / apt)
[10:48]<swyd>thoreauputic_: I guess I can try pluging in a new dvd drive...
[10:48]<vxjznruluvya_>KenSentMe: yeah, totem has issues with mms - try the mozilla-mplayer plugin
[10:48]<vxjznruluvya_>KenSentMe: or use mimms
[10:48]<zpzu_dgvnz_pfd>Okay is there a simple way to read a nstf partition (i don't need to be able to write
[10:48]<rrrw9>bilss_: Type this: ls -l /etc/suck/sucknewsrc and give me the output
[10:48]<pzzjus>fredl: forget about what aptitude say that is normal and most of the time the packages are not broken
[10:49]<bjv_buyfmnz>sweet, thanks userundefine!
[10:49]<pznmf>farous_: it is now proposing to downgrade linux-restricted-modules and has installed a version that's two versions older
[10:49]<gjfw1>Bot_Builder: i used to have a distro that ran off a floppy on a desktop with similar specs, it couldnt do much but it would priobably work, search distrowatch for floppy based distros, or what userundefine said probably
[10:49]<kggsggvmg>thoreauputic_: i also tried to watch the same video with realmedia, but then firefox asks me to install the realplayer plugin
[10:49]<pdznsvzvz>aqau_inter_fly: mkdir ~/ntfs-drive && sudo mount -t ntfs /dev/whatever-the-drive-is /home/yourusername/ntfs-drive
[10:49]<pzzjus>fredl: that is not proper hmm
[10:49]<swyd>well I guess I'll shutdown to install a new dvd drive and see if thats the issue
[10:49]<pznmf>and it now wants me to reboot....
[10:50]<vxjznruluvya_>KenSentMe: the mozilla-mplayer plugin will plat real media
[10:50]<pzzjus>fredl: does synaptic give you same prob.
[10:50]<bjv_buyfmnz>nol13 - alright, sounds good. I dunno how useful this thing will be without a bat, but hey
[10:50]<vxjznruluvya_>KenSentMe: only downside is that it's kind of ugly - but it works OK
[10:50]<pzzjus>fredl: check with synaptic if you truely have broken packages. or apt if you know how to
[10:50]<pznmf>farous_: shall I just start up synaptic, select the restricted-modules package and remove it from there?
[10:51]<wrrrn>fyrestrtr: I think I am going to end up going with your solution..physically moving the drives doesn't even sonud fun to begin with so with giving myself a way around that I get 2 things accomplished, plus them anybody on my local that wants files can just access through nfs
[10:51]<wrrrn>thanks
[10:51]<2yfss_>ajax4: lex1@xstation:~$ ls -l /etc/suck/sucknewsr -rwxrwxrwx 1 news news 122 2006-07-05 11:15 /etc/suck/sucknewsrc
[10:51]<kggsggvmg>thoreauputic_: when i install it, will it override the totem-xine-firefox-plugin?
[10:51]<2zjvrcuf>hi. i'm trying to lesten to online radios via XMMS but the buffer won't finish. does anybody know why?
[10:51]<pzzjus>fredl: you do nto need to remove all restricted packages
[10:51]<grvxrga>how do i reconfigure a netowkr device from the console?
[10:51]<kggsggvmg>nathanj: edit /etc/networking/interfaces
[10:51]<vxjznruluvya_>KenSentMe: my experience was that it sometimes conflicts with it - if so uninstall the totem plugin
[10:51]<2zjvrcuf>nathanj: for pppoe: rp pppoeconf
[10:51]<kggsggvmg>s/networking/network
[10:52]<vxjznruluvya_>KenSentMe: the mplayer plugin tends to take over somwhat, but as I said, it works here
[10:52]<grvxrga>no prompting screen? i just skipped it during ,my install
[10:52]<zpzu_dgvnz_pfd>fyrestrtr: okay i did that, now how do i get into the drive?
[10:53]<pdznsvzvz>cd ~/ntfs-drive
[10:53]<pdznsvzvz>ls
[10:53]<wggj>hmmmm...
[10:53]<pzzjus>fredl: tell me what does the command uname -r in a terminal tell you
[10:53]<rrrw9>bilss_: type this and tell me what the output is: ls -ld /etc/suck
[10:54]<2yfss_>ajax4 i notice the line in xterm /etc/suck/sucknewsrc is In green clolour ok just a sec
[10:54]<kggsggvmg>thoreauputic_: i try to run the video, but with WM i get the message connecting and the stopped and with RM the screen remains white
[10:54]<zpzu_dgvnz_pfd>fyrestrtr: okay, nothing happened
[10:54]<kggsggvmg>thoreauputic_: could you check this video link: http://player.omroep.nl/?aflID=3178566&start=39:56&md5=55af211e4b78eb067a5ff032518c07c4
[10:54]<vxjznruluvya_>KenSentMe: that 's usually the way the page was coded - it's a pain
[10:54]<pznmf_>farous_: sorry my system just crashed again. Either way, I followed aptitude's advice and it downgraded linux-restricted-modules instead of removing it
[10:54]<2yfss_>ajax4: drwxrwxr-x 2 news news 4096 2006-06-30 17:16 /etc/suck
[10:54]<grvxrga>KenSentMe: it doesnt seem to come up at boot once i added it
[10:55]<pzzjus>fredl_: what does uname -r tell you
[10:55]<pdznsvzvz>aqau_inter_fly: eh? what do you mean nothing happened?
