[11:28]<2jgsry>flash plugin, intecys?
[11:28]<ggda>Munksgaard: via http://www.ubuntu.com/download
[11:28]<dgvnads>yes..
[11:28]<ggda>Munksgaard: what is you graphics card/device ?
[11:28]<zpzu_dgvnz_pfd>fyrestrtr: done
[11:29]<zyvnz>When I 'sudo -s -u postgres' I get error "/bin/bash: 780487: Permission denied" Can anyone please tell me why ?
[11:29]<pdznsvzvz>aqau_inter_fly: now type ls /home/yourusername/ntfs
[11:29]<2jgsry>intecys try this: http://easyubuntu.freecontrib.org/
[11:29]<dgvnads>well i will go
[11:29]<pdznsvzvz>River: type su postgres only
[11:29]<dgvnads>very thanks
[11:29]<zpzu_dgvnz_pfd>fyrestrtr: it is a directory
[11:30]<pdznsvzvz>aqau_inter_fly: what do you see in it?
[11:30]<rrrw9>River: Why are you using the -s and -u options?
[11:30]<pdznsvzvz>type cd /home/yourusername/ntfs then type ls
[11:30]<muzcszzzzm>enyc: Ati Mobility x600 i think, i had the same problem on SUSE and i was told to compile the driver locally, and it worked eventually, but it dosent seem to work on the livecd/commandline, apparently some function needed dosent exist
[11:30]<pdznsvzvz>Munksgaard: ATI x300 works fine (Thinkpad T43)
[11:30]<dgnlvjc>evenin' users
[11:30]<pdznsvzvz>Munksgaard: I would imagine x600 works fine too.
[11:31]<zpzu_dgvnz_pfd>fyrestrtr: all of my windows files :-)
[11:31]<zyvnz>ajax4: following instrucitons from here http://www.ubuntuforums.org/archive/index.php/t-83797.html
[11:31]<pdznsvzvz>aqau_inter_fly: good, now type exit
[11:31]<ggda>Munksgaard: you might want to look for bugs in ubuthu malone
[11:31]<zpzu_dgvnz_pfd>okay
[11:31]<pdznsvzvz>aqau_inter_fly: then type cd ~/ntfs && ls
[11:31]<_judge_>question: anyone have your network work on the live cd.. but not on install of dapper????
[11:32]<muzcszzzzm>enyc: i think its because my screen is a widescreen, bottom line is, X returns some errors in safe mode and refuses to start, while in normal mode i just get a blank screen where X should've been
[11:32]<ggda>Munksgaard: if you install using the 'alternate' cd and then 'dist-upgrade' the system with dapper-updates + dapper-security etc. you will have uptodate dapper kernel... then you can build/run other kernels or drivers or whatever ;-)
[11:32]<zyvnz>fyrestrtr: do you mean 'su postgres' without the other switches ?
[11:32]<zpzu_dgvnz_pfd>fyrestrtr: permision denied
[11:32]<pdznsvzvz>aqau_inter_fly: okay this is normal, no worries
[11:32]<ggda>Munksgaard: heh... needs some fixing ;-)
[11:32]<muzcszzzzm>enyc: Aye
[11:32]<pdznsvzvz>aqau_inter_fly: type sudo chown -R yourusername:yourusername /home/yourusername/ntfs
[11:33]<pdznsvzvz>River: yes
[11:33]<ggda>Munksgaard: look for help in ubuntuforums // ubuntu-wiki // ubuntu-malone bugs... your problem is likely documented!
[11:33]<pdznsvzvz>aqau_inter_fly: then try it again
[11:33]<svyag>hi, I'm still using ubuntu 5.04
[11:33]<ggda>Munksgaard: you should get out the 'alternate' cd in order to upgrade....
[11:33]<svyag>is it possible to upgrade without the need to reinstall the system?
[11:33]<ggda>stijn: you can upgrade to 5.10 and THEN to 6.06 if you like
[11:33]<ggda>stijn: yous
[11:33]<muzcszzzzm>enyc: right, alternate cd coming up
[11:33]<pdznsvzvz>!upgrade
[11:33]<ggda>stijn: yes
[11:33]<u2jvu>Upgrading to Ubuntu 5.10 breezy -> http://wiki.ubuntu.com/BreezyUpgrade Upgrading to Ubuntu 6.06 Dapper -> https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DapperUpgrades Note: gksudo "update-manager -d" always updates to the latest development version.
[11:34]<zyvnz>fyrestrtr: ok I tried, however when it asks for password, I get su: authentication failure.. it does not take my norma sudo password
[11:34]<mrjumrn><------- perplexed as to why the live cd works with my existing network.. but clean dapper install will not... wtf?
[11:34]<ggda>DaJudge: it coulhd be a problem withsivecd installer...
[11:34]<svyag>how can i see which version i'm using ?
[11:34]<ggda>DaJudge: livecd installer even
[11:34]<ggda>stijn: read /etc/apt/sources.list
[11:34]<rrrw9>River: Does it work if you just use 'sudo -u postgres' ?
[11:34]<2yfss_>hi
[11:34]<vxjznruluvya>DaJudge: do you use satic addressing?
[11:34]<svyag>ok, thanks a lot
[11:35]<vxjznruluvya>*static
[11:35]<ggda>DaJudge: you *could* try 'alternate' cd with has alternative network config tool etc.
[11:35]<mrjumrn>i use DHCP
[11:35]<crgnmrmmd>hey
[11:35]<ggda>DaJudge: kk
[11:35]<mrjumrn>works with live cd.. but not after install
[11:35]<mrjumrn>crazy
[11:35]<ggda>DaJudge: indeed..
[11:35]<rnmgxjsv>i need to exit X-server to install my graphics driver
[11:35]<vxjznruluvya>DaJudge: check /etc/network/interfaces and see if you have something like auto ... dhcp
[11:35]<rnmgxjsv>what would this be from the commandline
[11:35]<ggda>DaJudge: well.... whitn is installed... what happens?
[11:35]<crgnmrmmd>ok
[11:36]<ggda>DaJudge: is the relevant driver module loaded (see 'lsmod')
[11:36]<pdznsvzvz>River: there is no password just hit enter
[11:36]<gjfw1>enyc, do you have it running?
[11:36]<2yfss_>ajax4: hi everything is ok but suck is being used by user name lex1 thats who i log in as if i want admin to use suck and not lex1 how to make the change
[11:36]<mrjumrn>when i browse my network i get : smblink-root
[11:36]<ggda>DaJudge: is the interface being started at all? (see 'ifconfig eth0')
[11:36]<vzzug>any kernel hackers in the room?
[11:36]<ggda>nol13: ??what?? running?
[11:36]<zyvnz>fyrestrtr: nope just enter also fails
[11:36]<ggda>DaJudge: '/sbin/ifconfig eth0' even
[11:36]<mrjumrn>enyc: im a bit new.. not sure what lsmod is
[11:37]<pdznsvzvz>River: did you set a password for the postgres user?
[11:37]<ggda>DaJudge: well what is your network adapter first?
[11:37]<mrjumrn>you mean type?
[11:37]<gjfw1>enyc, your network?
[11:37]<mrjumrn>or brand
[11:37]<ggda>DaJudge: have a look at 'lspci' output -- that should tell you
[11:37]<ggda>nol13: im using network now ;-)
[11:37]<rrrw9>bilss_: When you say admin, what username specifically do you want to be able to use suck?
[11:37]<zyvnz>ajax4: 'sudo -u postgres' just prints out "usage: sudo -K | -L ..."
[11:37]<rnmgxjsv>how can i exit X from commandline?
[11:37]<ggda>DaJudge: I mean the chipset used on the card and hence what driver-module is used ;-)
[11:37]<gjfw1>enyc, hmmmms o it is
[11:37]<gjfw1>enyc, you'd better catch it
[11:37]<pdznsvzvz>River: that's because that's not how you use sudo :)
[11:38]<slrmns>RedGhost try (sudo) /etc/init.d/gdm stop
[11:38]<vxjznruluvya>RedGhost: sudo /etc/init.d/gdm stop
[11:38]<mrjumrn>enyc: it says : Ethernet controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL-8029(AS)
[11:38]<rnmgxjsv>thanks
[11:38]<zyvnz>fyrestrtr: Yes, and I sucessfuly log in using PGAdmin3
[11:38]<zpzu_dgvnz_pfd>fyrestrtr: is this supposed to be changing the ownership of every single windows file, cuz its taking forever
