[13:17]<awyffu>although I can imagine a really poor implementation that would be difficult to mount by hand, which seems to be what you're describing
[13:17]<cjzfjzzf_dyzrn>cwillu, The moment I mount the permissions change. When I unmount it goes backt o 777
[13:17]<bugvr>did a quite apt-get update, gaim is the latest version
[13:17]<awyffu>k
[13:18]<awyffu>Corporal_Dirge: what happens if you chmod the current directory while in the root of the mount?
[13:18]<fyguw_usnz9001t9>bonsai, nope. i used the whole filenames and i got the same error "zip warning: name not matched"
[13:18]<awyffu>i.e., "chmod <foobar> ."
[13:18]<nvxdnzznn>well then something is either up with your installation or you don´t know how to use gaim :|
[13:18]<cjzfjzzf_dyzrn>cwillu It doesn't change even as root running chmod 777
[13:18]<nvxdnzznn>linux_user400354, unzip it via the GUI then
[13:18]<gvy|jgg>Hello. I need a command to delete all the files with the name ending in ~
[13:18]<bugvr>lol funny guy :P
[13:18]<pzynsv-jp-psy>anyone here actually use composite ?
[13:18]<bugvr>I dunno.. it used to work perfectly fine a couple of days ago
[13:18]<awyffu>k
[13:18]<aumrnqw19t>no
[13:18]<awyffu>give me a sec (not that easily defeated :)
[13:18]<bugvr>Not sure what decided to kill it
[13:19]<svr22d->ok guys i've gotta tell you: UBUNTU ROX!
[13:19]<svr22d->^-^
[13:19]<nvxdnzznn>well try Kopete then it´s the KDE version of gaim
[13:19]<fyguw_usnz9001t9>NthDegree, im not unzipping. im trying create an archive. i tried using file roller. that didnt work.
[13:19]<vxjznruluvya>evi|one: rm *~ ?
[13:19]<aumrnqw19t>ubuntu 6.06 powaaa
[13:19]<zzmaxjyffn>evi|one: rm /path/to/dir/*~
[13:20]<gvy|jgg>Ah. Right. Stupid me. I was trying to use regular expressions :o
[13:20]<nvxdnzznn>linux_user400354, zip is not 100% free and that is why gzip was made
[13:20]<bugvr>meh
[13:20]<bugvr>anyway I can remove gaim without removing gnome (ubuntu-desktop)
[13:20]<bugvr>then I'll just reinstall it :o
[13:21]<vxjznruluvya>Bunta: try moving the .gaim dir out of the way in your home directory ( sounds like something in your personal config)
[13:21]<sxzylxrgy>ok guys managed the trash can issue
[13:21]<cxzzfyn>hello
[13:21]<cjzfjzzf_dyzrn>cwillu, You use Truecrypt?
[13:22]<cxzzfyn>I have a question on Ubuntu 6.0.6 LTS installation, can someone help me?
[13:22]<nvxdnzznn>so it wouldn
[13:22]<nvxdnzznn>oops :$
[13:22]<sxzylxrgy>Charlie, ??
[13:22]<nvxdnzznn>sure Charlie
[13:22]<cxzzfyn>Thanks.
[13:22]<nvxdnzznn>ask away this is a support channel :)
[13:22]<pejrejj>Charlie: just state your problem - if someone knows the answer, they'll say so
[13:22]<pdznsvzvz>!anyone
[13:22]<u2jvu>A large amount of the first questions asked in this channel start with "Does anyone/anybody..." Why not ask your next question (the real one) and find out?
[13:22]<awyffu>Corporal_Dirge: what type of partition is the encrypted volume?
[13:22]<dalden>googs, i am trying install speedtouch 330 on ubuntu
[13:22]<zzmaxjyffn>Bunta: removing ubuntu-desktop doesn't remove gnome, it just removes the ubuntu-desktop meta package.. it's safe to remove, I did it a long time ago. You might want to re-install that meta package if you use dist-upgrade to upgrade to the next version of Ubuntu.
[13:23]<dalden>but fail to me the first part
[13:23]<dalden>malmen@server:~$ grep -B 1 "THOMSON
[13:23]<dalden>> ALCATEL" /proc/bus/usb/devices
[13:23]<dalden>grep: /proc/bus/usb/devices: No such file or directory
[13:23]<pdznsvzvz>turn that off judge21345
[13:23]<aumrnqw19t>why?
[13:23]<vxjznruluvya>judge21345: turn off that script please
[13:23]<aumrnqw19t>ok
[13:23]<cjzfjzzf_dyzrn>cwillu, It's vfat.
[13:23]<vxjznruluvya>judge21345: imagine if everyone did that in a channel of 700 people
[13:23]<cxzzfyn>My Dell 5150 machine has a ATI 3000 video card, from the wiki I know I need to update Xorg.conf to replace "ati" to "radeon", but my problem is installation was aborted, then I don't know how to continue after I modified the Xorg.conf.
[13:24]<awyffu>Corporal_Dirge: right, sorry, you said that before
[13:24]<sdjr2x>ciao a tutti
[13:24]<pdznsvzvz>Charlie: installation of what?
[13:24]<aumrnqw19t>ok sorry, i am a newbie;)
[13:24]<awyffu>Corporal_Dirge: investigated the -M option?
[13:25]<cxzzfyn>I use the CD delivered from Ubuntu. Installation of ubuntu
[13:25]<cjzfjzzf_dyzrn>cwillu, Yes, that's how I knew it was passing the mount command to the terminal, I used -o rw. But since vfat doesn't use privledges it failed.
[13:25]<cxzzfyn>The first option is to install. But the installation aborted in the X server configuration step
[13:25]<pdznsvzvz>Charlie: when you say 'installation was aborted' are you talking about the ubuntu installation or installation of something else?
[13:25]<cjzfjzzf_dyzrn>-M "-o rw"
[13:25]<nnvrrm>i have edit with the command crontab -e. how do i save it and exit=?
[13:26]<22ereyf>Netcad: try esc :wq
[13:26]<cxzzfyn>fyrestrtr, I meant "installation of ubuntu"
[13:26]<zzmaxjyffn>Netcad: hit the ESC key, then type ":w" (without quotes), then ":q"
[13:26]<puzzdcnp>Silly question... if a program dumps core, where's the coredump go?
[13:26]<puzzdcnp>(The program in question is xbill)
[13:26]<awyffu>Corporal_Dirge: okay, I think I have it
[13:26]<22ereyf>furrykef: usually the current directory
[13:26]<pdznsvzvz>furrykef: .coredump or something like that
[13:27]<awyffu>vfat does support the umask option (it's a property of the mount, not the underlying file system
[13:27]<cxzzfyn>fyrestrtr. It dumped the error and say "restart GDM"....
[13:27]<pdznsvzvz>Charlie: what error did it give?
[13:27]<vxjznruluvya>furrykef: xbill doesn't like gnome, if that's where you tried to run it - it wants to draw on the root window
[13:27]<vzzug>I'm getting a "couldn't open directory /lib/modules/2.6.15-7-xxxxxx/modules.dep.temp for writing: no such file or directory" on bootup..........any ideas?
[13:27]<awyffu>it doesn't look like you have to say -M "-o ...", I'd expect just -M umask=... to suffice
[13:27]<nvxdnzznn>Charlie then simply reconfigure your xorg.conf and when everything is ok then put /etc/init.d/gdm restart
[13:28]<vxjznruluvya>furrykef: which nautilus has already occupied ;)
[13:28]<puzzdcnp>Hmm, I don't see the core dump in my home directory
[13:28]<awyffu>-o options never have unescaped spaces in them, so length isn't an issue
[13:28]<pdznsvzvz>furrykef: it will be the running directory of the program.
[13:28]<vxjznruluvya>furrykef: look for "core"
[13:28]<awyffu>Corporal_Dirge: did you get all that?
[13:28]<puzzdcnp>My home directory is where I launched it from
[13:28]<nvxdnzznn>Charlie, could you show me the wiki page you have been reading from?
[13:28]<smx>can anybody remember the name of the app - i think it used to ship with ubuntu - that automatically downloads/previews gnome art etc and lets you install it
[13:29]<cxzzfyn>My issue is in this URL: http://www.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=130625 . I had exactly same error log
[13:29]<vxjznruluvya>!info gnome-art
[13:29]<u2jvu>gnome-art: install GNOME themes from art.gnome.org. In repository universe, is optional. Version 0.2-1ubuntu1 (dapper), package size 26 kB, installed size 200 kB
[13:29]<vxjznruluvya>:)
[13:29]<smx>thoreauputic: cheers ;)
[13:29]<cjzfjzzf_dyzrn>ok, so sudo Truecrypt /dev/sda2 /media/sda2 -M umask=777 ?
[13:29]<lrwrg>install
